Ambience is Great I'll give them that it's beautiful and the staff for the most part is great but as a brown Latino person (I'm not being that guy) I had 2 incidents where two waiters months ago attended me rudely but it's the last overall staff is great the host is always smiling now comes the part that hurts because I loved this place when they first opened! My favorite food is the pork belly tacos but I never eat the tortillas I personally think honestly it's embarrassing because the toppings and the pork belly themselves are delicious and compliment themselves very well in my opinion, the tortillas wether it's dinning in or take out they are always undercooked and very chewy and at times hard, also I'd rather my preference the tacos be already prepped so I can eat right away when it's take out instead of having to build it myself but my preference I'm not saying its bad. The tortillas if you fix that issue have them soft and warm then your golden on that part The other dishes I've had there weren't bad but in my experience they are over priced and could be better. My other criticism is that I do dislike the whole paying only by card on the app I like to pay cash and tip cash to waiters. The food was on point! I opted to sit at the bar, treat myself to a margarita, some tacos and a side. The bartenders were pleasant and attentive. I ordered the bar taco margarita and to be honest, that was my least favorite purchase today and with the $13.50 price tag that came with it, that was disappointing. QR codes man. Nothing makes me feel more like a grumpy old man than being confronted with QR codes. You go to a restaurant to catch up with friends, and you each spend the first 10 minutes looking at your phones. Want more food? Another drink? Gotta pull out your phone. Just a terrible restaurant idea. Also, with this restaurant, any taco on your ticket that is ready comes out on the same tray. The server will explain which taco is which (e.g. cauliflower, chicken, whatever). But then suddenly, it's like a card trick when the tray is down and everyone is putting trying to guess which taco is theirs without touching anyone else's taco. It's just stupid. So enough about the process of ordering and receiving the food. How's the food itself? Honestly, the highest compliment I could find for the tacos themselves were that they were warm. Among us, we tried probably 8 of the various tacos, and we all agreed that only the taco-of-the-day had any flavor at all, and that's because it had sauce. Just very very average. Not sure how to justify tipping when you order food yourself through the QR code and the server does nothing else but bring water to the table. A food runner brought all the food and other drinks to the table. The host came by to ask how everyone was doing not the server. Plus the table remained full of dirty dishes throughout the meal because the server never removed any dirty dishes or asked if all was ok. Delighted that the original cauliflower tacos had returned, only to find that they have once again been replaced. The Brussel sprouts tacos were delicious as an addition to the cauliflower, but the new pistachio cauliflower replacing the old is very disappointing! Bartaco has some absolutely delicious tacos. Everybody can find a taco that they love here, I'm convinced. Our favorites are the pork belly and steak tacos. The spicy margaritas are also delicious. They bring the tacos out in trays which can be a little confusing if you don't know exactly what you've ordered. You also have to order on your phone which is inconvenient if you don't know technology well. It can also get to be a little expensive if you order a lot of tacos since they are pretty small. read more

There was so many items to chose from it was hard to make up our minds! This place is lovely. Ambiance is delightful. Parking is plentiful. And the food was delicious. My friend got there before I did so I have no idea how long it took to be seated but I can't imagine it was very long since they weren't packed. There was a QR code on the table so I scanned it, figuring that we had to order that way. We were given a carafe of water but when the waitress saw us on our phones, I guess she assumed we knew what we doing and let us be. The food came out quickly. I ordered several different tacos (I really wanted to try them all!) My ranking order: #1 Baja Fish...perfection. I loved everything about this taco. #2 Pork Belly...was a little too crispy but otherwise, delicious! #3 Oyster...may have been #2 but lost a slot because I didn't think it was $6 worth. #4 Ribeye...tasty as well but maybe a little bit salty! I also got the Duck Birria which everyone raved about...it was very good but not exactly to my taste (a me thing, not them!) First, on your birthday you get free churros, and I've often asked to substitute churros for their tres leches, which is SO GOOD and now one of my favorite desserts. I love how easy it is to order, but beware, the portions are pretty small, so be ready to drop at least $20-$25/person for a good meal. The suggestion is to get 3-4 tacos and a side or two. I love their plantains because they are crispy on the outside and come with an awesome dip. Their corn on the cob is also very flavorful and well-priced. Their pork belly is my favorite. Everything else is great too, but especially the pork belly. Ambiance indoors can be pretty loud, but for the food it's worth it. I crave bartaco, and I love it! For the Gluten Free community this restaurant is excellent. More things on the menu are safe than a risk. You order family style and build interesting meals progressively instead of ordering everything at once. I would recommend the duck, pork belly, and cauliflower tacos! My family and I love the food, concept, and friendliness of the staff. You order via the website, by scanning a QR code at your table. Everything gets delivered and that's usually the first time you see someone from the restaurant, well that's how it is when you eat outside (which is the only way I've eaten there). The outdoor patio is great! It's big and has fans for hot days, they don't have outdoor heaters yet, but in the sun on a cool day it's still comfortable. The patio is also dog friendly. Wow! I'm blown away by how good the food was here. I really was not expecting it. Cauliflower tacos had a great smoky flavor. Marinated mushroom tacos were nice too. Brussel sprout bowl was so delicious and full of flavor. The curried carrot in the bowl was sweet and smooth with a touch of what I think was coconut flavor. Truly excellent! Brussel sprouts were sweet in a good way and roasted just right. Brown rice was cooked tender. Instead of small triangle chips, the tortilla chips that came with the salsas and guacamole were large circles (6 of them) that could be broken down for dipping. The salsas had good spice levels and the guacamole was perfectly simple and creamy. The Nojito was SOOO good. I rarely drink anymore and this non-alcoholic beverage brought me right back to some of my favorite mojitos in my glory days. Just the right balance of sweet and tangy with lovely herbaceous mint. Fun place to experience and the tacos are upscale. The first time I went it was at lunchtime. I did have to ask the waitstaff to show how to order (digitally). very kind and helpful. Food was great. I think they don't take cash, but do take credit and debit cards. Over time they have expanded their menu and serve rice bowls, nice fruits and veggies, and my weakness for excellent fish tacos is one reason I like to eat there. I especially liked the unique combination of tastes. Definitely not the traditional or I should say expected menu. Great service. Great food but varying service. Sometimes it's great but at one point it was frustrating. A group of three of us arrived, two with masks and one without (he just forgot it in the car). Due to this we decided we would sit outside as the mask policy applied for inside. As we were about to be seated, a server who was not even our own yelled over to us stating "we require masks" which was infuriating and embarrassing. I am not an anti vacc or anti mask, I believe the science, hell I work with the science so this was especially frustrating. He had to trudge back to the car to only wear the mask out of embarrassment for five seconds before he sat down outside with us and we all took our masks off. Parking - Not too bad since no one really goes to the mall. Venue - Very nice well kept up place. You walk in its bright and clean with a nice bar area. We enjoyed our experience at bartaco in Chapel Hill. I'm familiar with bartaco's three Atlanta locations. My experience at this location in Chapel Hill was above average compared to my experiences in Atlanta. I thought the food was good and service was excellent. bartaco is a great option for groups. One of this chain's strong suits is its atmosphere. The restaurants have a nice ambiance and this location is no exception. It has a fun, indoor-outdoor, beachy bar feel. It's elevated casual dining. This bartaco opened in Chapel Hill in July 2017 at University Place (shopping mall). At the time of writing this review, there is only one other bartaco in North Carolina (Raleigh). This location has a beautiful space. Large wraparound bar, open kitchen, multiple dining rooms, and a spacious string-lit patio (uncovered). Also, the ingredients were fresh all around; not just the tacos, but everything. If I had to pick standouts among the tacos, for me, they were the Crispy Oyster, Roasted Duck, and Crispy Avocado. I love oysters, raw and fried. bartaco's Crispy Oyster taco was similar to eating a fried oyster po' boy, but in taco form. The Roasted Duck taco was served with shredded (or pulled) duck meat that was marinated in a sweet and savory sauce. Good flavor, though I did think some bites were too salty. The Crispy Avocado tacos came with sizable avocado slices with crunchy batter. Note: The "#bartacosecret" Crispy Avocado tacos were on the digital menu we ordered from, using the QR code at our table. I didn't see them on the print menu. Also, the table-specific QR code allows anyone with a phone to add items to the table's order. You don't have to order using one device. I thought that was neat. We paid via phone. I'm a big fan of Baja Fish tacos and something about bartaco's version left me underwhelmed. My wife felt the same way. She said they were her least favorite of the tacos. The fish was underseasoned and the slaw simply didn't have enough flavor to it. Something was missing. Relatively speaking, these were bland fish tacos. The size and texture of each piece of fish was A-OK, though. I'm also a big fan of mushrooms and liked the Portobello tacos. If you like mushrooms, I think the Portobello tacos here are worth ordering. I liked the Falafel tacos too. Each Falafel taco came with two crispy and flavorful falafels with a creamy, herby sauce (like tzatziki). Both the Glazed Pork Belly and the Sesame Ribeye tacos had Asian flavors, the latter being a "classic" Korean taco. The Glazed Pork Belly was crispy, thick, and chewy. The pieces of pork belly were coated in a yummy sauce that had sweet, smoky, and soy flavors. The Sesame Ribeye tacos had tender morsels of beef topped with a fresh ("fresh" as in not very fermented) kimchi. As for the non-taco food items we ordered, I thought they were just as satisfying as the tacos. The Guac was tangy, spicy, chunky, and delectable. The Plantains were my favorite item out of everything, believe it or not. They were served piping hot, perfectly-cooked and had wonderful caramelization on the outside, incredible texture on the inside, and mouthwatering flavor. As far as the Ceviche went, I've had better at plenty of "authentic" Mexican restaurants. bartaco's version was small and serviceable, but far from outstanding. I thought the Duck Quesadilla was fine. My wife and mom loved it. It was served warm, crispy on the outside with caramelized onion on the inside, filled with umami. I personally didn't like the Duck Quesadilla as much as they did because I wasn't fond of the particular type of cheese used. It was funky to me. Came here with my friend after cycling class at The Sweat Lab. One thing I didn't really like was having to wait for seating. (Apparently, there was a private party at the same time my friend and I arrived.) Regardless, we had the nicest waiter take our orders and bring out our food. What stood out most to me on the menu were the plantains, pork carnitas tacos, and duck tacos. So naturally, that's what I ordered. The plantains were sweet and crispy, served alongside a mayo-based sauce. I liked the option of substituting the corn tortillas with lettuce wraps. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that the fat from the meat fillings would totally sop the parchment paper underneath my food. It's hard to eat tacos when you're worried about getting bits of parchment paper in your mouth. On the brighter side, the pork and duck were both super flavorful. I completely understand high prices for quality...but given the casual nature of the restaurant I do not think the prices are quite worth the food here. I'm writing this review now having been to bar taco 2 or 3 times. This restaurant by far has the best combination of food and customer service that I've ever experienced. You scan a QR code to access the menu, and order using your phone. While it sounds intimidating, it's quite easy. And best of all, the app gives you the option of paying for someone else. The food comes out very quick. Bar taco's prices for tacos range between $3-$5 per taco, but they are worth it. Full of flavor. What puts this place over the top are it's drinks. Bar taco has the best margaritas in the triangle. You see them hand squeeze their limes. They don't use margarita mix. They are light, refreshing, and so enjoyable that you'll want to order a second. We came in to meet up with friends around 5:30p on a Thursday night and were able to find our friends easily in a back booth. The way you order is through the QR code on each table which takes you to the online ordering system. They require that you give them personal information like a name for the account, phone number, and credit card to put on file. It was a very different way of taking orders than a typical restaurant and more similar to an actual bar where you open a tab and then close out when you leave. We just wanted food so after ordering and the food was delivered, I closed out our check, again through the online system. They warn you on the system that an 18% gratuity will be added if you don't close out, so that was a little stressful. Ordering and paying aside, the food was amazing. We were pleasantly surprised by all the fish and vegetarian options available for their tacos and ordered cauliflower, chili-lime shrimp, tuna tatako, and baja fish. They were all amazing, but my favorite was the tuna tatako which comes on a butter lettuce wrap instead of a corn tortilla. Very fresh and crunchy! Their guac is also amazing and comes with tortilla chips that you get to break apart yourself. The server was nice enough to bring a few more chips when we had some leftover guac that we wanted to finish up. Their prices are also very reasonable for the quality with each taco priced just under $4, except the cauliflower which was a $1 less. $24 (just tacos) for two people was really great and I'm excited to try the location in North Hills now! read more
