I would give this place no stars if I could, it's dirty, dingy and plain right icky. I was trying not to judge a book by its cover and stayed for my daughter's appointment but the staff was out right not able to deal with children. And my daughter is not a difficult patient to deal with at all! I can't even imagine how they do handle children that cry. The doctor that examined my kiddo didn't even bother to get her prescription right. He adjusted the lenses just enough for her to read the top 2 rows of the reading chart and nothing else. When I brought this up he quickly shrugged it off and said that she doesn't need to wear them all the time and that in a legal standpoint she needs to be able to see the top 2 rows. Like what?! She needs to be able to see the board in her classroom I don't care if you want to do the bare minimum I want the right prescription! He basically half assed the whole exam and made me pay for a comprehensive exam that she didn't need. If I could give this place 0/0 I would. DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

I needed to check a problem with my eyes and heard good reports on this Barton Creek eye care so I walked in and immedately was given apt so I waited 15mins and then filled out paperwork then taken into eye station then after waiting then went into a room and was seen by a doctor. Was a informative nice lady helped me get the eye exam and very helpful I am very grateful to have a quick trip and solve my problem she wrote me two prescriptions for my eye problem. I am a 78 year old who suffers from a bad back and knee making walking difficult.. And I also suffer from occasional bladder urgency. On a recent appointment at Lens Crafters in the Barton Mall, I asked the receptionist to use the restroom and she said they had no restrooms but i could go upstairs (She informed me the escalator was broken) and walk down to the food court and use the public restroom there. I asked where the office staff went to restroom facilities and she replied that they had their own but they were strictly private for the staff's exclusive use only. Patients could not use them. I explained my situation and she said she was very sorry but she was not allowed by the Doctors to make exceptions to this office policy. She told me perhaps I could 'sneak' over to the Old Navy store and pretend to be a customer and they probably would let me use the restroom there. There is no excuse to treat people this way. I cancelled my appointment, went to Old Navy and they said Lens Crafters does that all the time. They graciously allowed me to use their bathroom. I will never go to any Lens Crafters again. read more

I repeatedly called to no avail because I was lost within the mall. I arrived at 9 min past my appointment to wait for the receptionist to get off the phone and it turned to 10 minutes waiting for her. I have been coming here for years but the last time, will be the last time. Got my eye examined by Timothy Wright, ordered my glasses, they came in and I just couldn't wear them, I knew they were off. Asked the place where I ordered the glasses if they used the correct prescription, so I kept trying to wear them. Finally out of desperation, I went to Texan Eye, they gave me an examination and... the prescription from Barton Eyecare was way off. I knew it! Fortunately, the place where I ordered my glasses are replacing them with the correct prescription at no cost. I will never return and will definitely not recommend. Run away from this place and, for God's sake don't take your children. If a filthy venue isn't enough, please remember this place is a nest of thieves. If it had not been late on Saturday, then I would not have risked the visit as soon as I saw the filthy cramped space. However, I took my chances and paid for it, literally. I told the lady on the phone I used to wear contacts, but not anymore and she still arranged a contact fitting. Then, I told the lady at the front desk, the technician, and the doctor the same thing. They all still insisted I needed the contact fitting and I continued to refuse (and never signed consent). When I checked out, these thieves asked for an additional $100 for a contact fitting. Still, I refused. Then, these thieves fraudulently checked me out for the incorrect amount knowing I could not see the total. They literally told me the copay was $10 and charged me for $100 without my knowledge. I will definitely file an ethics complaint to the State of Texas, but, meanwhile, tell everyone you know to stay clear of these thieves. read more

Went in for an eye appointment, they told me the exam was $20, then on the paper work it shows $40. Went to the exam. They say they won't do dialation unless medically necessary. But they have another option ($20 is the reduced price). Which I did not want to do. But was told it was part of the exam and had to be done. But they charge additionally for that. So the exam ended up being $60. Plus contact lens fitting which they charge $120 for. So a routine eye exam with insurance was $180! They wouldn't let me not do the additional machine they had. So basically they make you do it and collect the extra money for it. While eye dilation you can usually say no to. But this is essentially the same thing and they make you do it. Staff was late opening by 45 minutes. Completely ignored me while I stood outside. They were very nice when talking to them. But definitely not what it used to be. read more

Update....So my sister and I went at the same time, same dr. She got her glasses and couldn't see well. She went to another eye dr and was told she had been given the wrong prescription. She just got her new prescription and now sees perfectly ! I still don't think my right eye prescription is correct... read more

This eye clinic delivers. The first time I went it was because they were on my insurance and close to where I work. The staff is excellent, they work to maximize insurance, it's easy to make an appointment and they have all the latest technology. What really impresses me is Dr. Nelson's ability to get my eye prescription absolutely perfect. I have the best glasses I've ever had after she wrote the prescription. The last time I was in there she slightly tweaked one of my contact lens prescriptions and now I see even better. It's a great eye clinic. read more

This is probably the most interesting optometrists office I've been to in a while. I have been looking for my next optometrist after many years of dedication to one that couldn't have cared less about my business. Found this one via Yelp, thanks btw! It's in the mall. Which normally is a big yuck from me. But easy if you go Mon-Fri and before 1. There's almost no one at the mall and parking is much easier. He's located right next to Lens Crafters and just downstairs from the the other lens making shop. (names....?). The staff was nice. There were tv's everywhere. That kind of made me chuckle but as I hate tv it was almost annoying. I had to fill out my info on an iPad type device and that was a little frustrating. It doesn't work like an iPad, which I'm very accustomed to, but eventually got the job done. Then I waited for 10-15 minutes. While that isn't too bad, there wasn't any other patients in there being seen. .... Hmm..... Finally, I get the basics done by the assistant. We head back to the actual exam room and I sat and waited again. No sure why, again. The room was tiny by the way. But when the Dr came in, I was relieved. Despite my slight issue with some of the experience, the staff other then the red head seems a little out of it, the Dr, he was great. He was a wonderful bed side manner and, well, he smells wonderful. Thats huge considering how close the Drs get to the patient. It was reall easy in the end and I think I might go back next year. They give you contacts at the appt, if you need them. And will have your order sent to your house. That's pretty cool I think. Except I'm worried about Tx summer. I went to Barton Creek Eyewear to get a new prescription. I called in the day-of and the guy on the phone was super friendly and accomodating. Sometimes, it can be frustrating when you want to schedule an appointment and the next available appointment is in 2 months, but that wasn't the case here, thankfully! They were able to schedule me in at noon, which was nice and convenient for my schedule. There was a slight speedbump when I got there, however: the guy at the front desk who scheduled my appointment seemed to have thought that we rescheduled for Saturday, which was not quite the case. He apologized for the mix-up and I ended up seeing the optometrist at my originally scheduled time. Yay! Both the optometrist assistant David (I think!) and Dr. Elizondo, my optometrist were very clear in giving out instructions and thorough in explaining the purposes of the tests. Super friendly, too - I'd give them both a shiny golden star in bedside manner department. Sometimes, you can feel like cattle when you're at the doctor's office, but I felt like David and Dr. Elizondo both do a good job of making sure you that you understand all the weird tests they're making you stare at. Plus, Dr. Elizondo was the cutest little doctor ever. I wanted to whisk her away in my pocket and pinch her rosy little cheeks. Teehee! Anyways, I enjoyed my first visit to Barton Creek Eyewear and I'd go again when my prescription expires. I was desperate. I have the vision of a bat (sans the cool echolocation part). Rarely do places keep my contact lens prescription strength in stock because it is so bad. After going to an eye doctor and not realizing until after the appointment that they didn't do fittings for contact lenses, I google'd and found this place in the Barton Square Mall. They accept walk-ins, are open until 7 PM on weekdays and are also open on the weekends. They totally saved me. I had an appointment with Ms. Elizondo. She was really nice and friendly, and didn't make me put those terrible dilation drops in my eyes because they have a cool little machine that takes pictures of your eyeballs instead. I had lots of questions and she answered all of them patiently and completely before writing out a prescription for contacts and another for glasses. She didn't pressure me at all to order anything through their office or to the Lenscrafters next door, which is really rare. My last eye doctor practically stuffed coupons for a optician located next door to them in my purse before I could get out of there. They also take insurance (I have Blue Cross Blue Shield) but a first-time check-up will run you around $170. read more

Made an appointment over the phone to get a glasses exam. I showed up and was led into the exam room. The tech that was helping me was very engaging and friendly. She asked about the last time I had seen a Dr. Through her conversation, we discovered that I likely already had an active prescription. A quick phone call to verify, and just like that, I was told that I didn't need to spend any more money, I could go next door to order my glasses with my existing prescription. My family and I have been coming here for a few years now. Overall, I think this office is pretty efficient and thorough, so I'm extremely pleased. I love the option and convenience of creating our appointments online. Over time, we've gotten appointment reminders several ways (phone, email and text), so they are using the latest technology. The friendly office staff reviews our insurance before arriving to ensure there are no problems or surprises when we arrive. The technicians take us to an office where we run through preliminary diagnostics before seeing the doctor. One of these instruments generates scans showing the insides of the eyes, including the retina and optic nerve. I'm very pleased that it is all done without having to get my eyes dilated (which I'm not a fan of). Dr. Nelson always seems friendly, professional and takes the time to explain changes in our vision from previous years. She also reviews those scans to let us know if there are any gotchas to watch out for. My vision correction is getting even more complicated now that I'm getting older. Dr. Nelson was patient enough to suggest I try multi-focal contacts, but also discussed general things like LASIK and PRK, so I can have the best vision possible. During all this time, she never seemed to rush through any of the appointments. This office has definitely taken care of our family, and there is no need to go elsewhere. read more

This place is horrible!! Can't even get a call back from Kara who is suppose to be Management. I went for my yearly contact lens exam. My prescription didn't change from the year before according to Dr Baweja who did my eye exam. I tried a new brand of contacts and liked them so I ordered a year supply. I got them last week. I could let see out of the contacts. I called to mark an appt. I saw the same doctor. She could not explain to me why one Day I could see out of my contacts and now I could see through the new ones. Dr Baweja is worthless she doesn't even know what she is doing. She kept telling me she couldn't explain why I could see out of my old contacts but couldn't see out of the news. They wouldn't even take these back so I could not get my old brand. I am stuck with contacts I can't see out of. I called Kara twice and never received a call back.. so unprofessional!! I would never recommend this place or any of there other locations June 21... I still have not heard back from Management!! Horrible!! July 9th-- WOW I got a response!! But as I explained to you when you called I would never go to any of your locations.. I was treated horribly at this location. If you allow 1 location to treat patients the way I was treated then I can only assume you let the other locations treat patients the same way. Thanks for offering, but NO THANKS!! Dr. Baweja is worthless!! She could not explain why I could see from 1 set of contacts and not the others. If a doctor could not provide an explanation then what good is she? I'm new to Austin and needed to find a place to buy new contacts. When I left California, I left with the recent prescription, but I was running low on actual contacts. I came in here and asked if I brought in a copy of my prescription, if I could buy new contacts today. They said yes, but when I returned with a copy of my prescription I was told that they do not carry any contacts in the store, they would have to order them. They offer trials only. I understand it's probably common practice, but they should've told me that when I came in the first time instead of having me go through the trouble to bring the prescription just to be told I can't pick up anything today. read more

Been going here for a few years now, and I love how easy it is. Easy to get same day appointments, easy to get an evening, lunch hour, or weekend appointment, and not a lot of waiting once you get there. I've seen both Dr. Mock and Dr. Soltys and enjoy them both. Very professional, not what you'd expect from an eye doctor in a mall. Clean facility, really nice waiting area in the back with Keurig coffee and juice boxes for the kiddos (if there was a Keurig tea option too, I'd be totally in heaven). Nice tv in the waiting area as well. All in all an easy experience, prices are competitive, they don't try to upsell you stuff you don't need. I take my contact lens scrip and glasses scrips with me each year and fill them at Costco, and they don't bat an eye (ba dum bum ching!) or try to strongarm me into buying my contacts through them. I used to go to a standalone optometrist, and this place is just so much easier and better all around. Check it out if convenience and customer service are important to you. And afterward you can do a little shopping or grab some Starbucks with your bad self. read more

I needed an eye exam as quickly as possible. I found this place on line. It was Sunday afternoon and I was able to schedule an appointment online for that very afternoon. I was asked what my expectations were and was not pressured to submit to more than what I needed. My experience with the entire staff was pleasant and professional. The exam was tailored to my needs. It was quick, thorough, and couldn't have been made any easier. The optometrist was pleasant and knowledgeable. I'm a new patient of Dr. Soltys, who I hold in high regard. I've had some recent issues with the office so I thought it more appropriate to post my review to Barton Creek Eyecare, rather than Dr. Soltys. (Both are listed in Yelp.) Dr. Soltys was recommended to me as someone who has had success fitting post-operative patients with contacts. I'm delighted with his work and anxious to see if I can have normal vision again without glasses. My issues are with the office staff. First, we had a glitch with validating my insurance, so I had to pay out of pocket and then file a claim myself. Had a miscommunication on the time of my second appointment which resulted in a 1 week delay. (That very well could have been my fault.) After the contact fitting appointment, Dr. Soltys said my lenses would be available the following week. No call in 10 days so I called them and left a voicemail to ask the status. Placed another call and left an additional message a few days later. Also tried texting without luck. They never did respond to any of my communications, but finally did leave me a voicemail to "remind" me that my contacts were ready. I rechecked the call history on my phone and found no prior calls from their office. All told, about 4.5 weeks from initial visit to contacts provided. I saw a handwritten call log stating that they called 12 days earlier but left no message. Had a bit of sticker shock at paying $400 for 2 soft contacts. I understand that they are special. Wish Dr. Soltys or someone there would have given me a ballpark figure before hand to guide my decision. Also the office staff failed to check my insurance coverage for the contacts, so I'm back to filing my own claim again. (They are out of network for VSP, so I will likely pay out of pocket for everything.) I asked for a printed copy of my contact prescription, since I'm sure I can find the contacts for half of that online. Thank goodness Texas law gives patients access to their own precriptions. However, on the way out I noticed that the prescription showed "last edited" with today's date and that the numbers on the prescription were transposed with those on the contact vials I recieved. When I broupght everything back and showed them the mistake, I asked for clarification on which values were correct. I really didn't get a clear resonse; they just changed the values and printed out a new prescription. [Assuming their office is computerized, my prescription should have already been in the system for several weeks. There seems to be no reason for a recent edit. Could it be that the transposition was intentional to make it more difficult for me to source lenses elsewhere?] Finally, I was really surprised that they didn't offer me the opportunity to put on the new contacts to see if they did, in fact, fit and work as expected... especially given the uncertainties that were raised. BOTTOM LINE: Good doctor, but a dissapointing experience overall due to mistakes and poor service from staff member(s). Either way, I will probably be shopping for a new ophthalmologist. read more

I have NEVER been more disappointed in the lack of customer service before in my life! My mother is elderly and we had to use the washroom. I called the office and told her we were upstairs and we were using the washroom and would be there shortly. She not only failed to notify me of the "late policy" but reassured me it was ok and we would be seen. I arrived at 1:09 pm and she then tells me, "Oh, well I'm sorry, but we have a late policy and unfortunately we will have to reschedule your appointment." There was NOBODY in the waiting room and i was confused because i was reassured just a few moments prior that we would be ok and seen. Needless to say, my elderly mother was upset because she was in need of eye care and now the service was being refused and now we DEFINITELY will not be going back nor will we be recommending this office. One minute. One minute. I would like to think if it was a relative or someone close to the woman she would have disregarded the policy. Front desk staff was unhelpful and uninterested in answering my questions, despite the fact that I had to wait 40 minutes past my scheduled appointment to even see the doctor. I've been trying to get an appointment to get contacts, and it's been a huge pain in the butt... everywhere except here! The scheduling process was fast and smooth, everyone who I interacted with was friendly (even when I was super frustrated about an insurance debacle), and I'm very happy with my new contacts. My doctor, Susan Elizondo, was super sweet and made me feel at ease. Denise was AMAZING. When I was calling around to different offices to make an appointment, one of the offices (Quality Vision Eyewear) pulled and was holding my insurance hostage (even though at no point did they mention this, nor did I even make an actual appointment with them). She spent an insane amount of time tracking down information for me and calling my insurance company, and was very patient throughout the process. The prices were very reasonable (even if you don't have insurance) and they were very open about telling me the prices up front, which I appreciate. When places are ambiguous and can't even give you a loose estimate, it sends up a red flag for me. I would definitely recommend this office to a friend. read more
