The facility here is pretty nice too, with basketball courts, bathrooms, water fountains and I believe they evens have some vending machines the last time I was there. Getting to the park is fairly easy too, as there are two entrances to two different parking lots. The park is close by the Columbia County Fairgrounds too. I'd highly recommend making an outing here!

I abandoned the trail after a mile and a half because a snake was giving me the evil eye and wouldn't move, but it was a nice quiet forest. The trail passes various campgrounds and roads and the area still feels a bit urban, but for those without the time to go deep into the wilderness it is a nice option reasonably close to Augusta.

Great place to run in Aiken! During my most recent visit to Aiken, I was looking for a place to…read morerun. We found the track at Odell Weeks Activity Center, and I was very pleased. It is a 1 mile track around, and they have markers every quarter of a mile. This made for the perfect place to enjoy a quick run! Now, I can't speak for the inside of the activity center, but the outdoor public facilities are really great. The track is well maintained, and I liked that there were emergency call boxes on the track, although I felt that the area was pretty safe. They have a section of the park with some outdoor lifting equipment and there are tennis courts on the backside of the park, which are totally free to use. I really enjoyed running here. We did a quick 2 mile run on a Saturday morning, and there were a few other people, but it wasn't overly crowded. I enjoyed the scenery, and there was plenty of parking. I would definitely recommend!

I did not see any, but I expect there must be some. This particular bit of park is not on the waterfront and is not that aesthetically distinctive, but it is connected with the greenway trail that goes to several useful places, as well as being next to a sporting venue. The park scores high on its own merits, however. The area is substantial, and includes both boardwalks through some classic wetlands, an educational complex that includes a lab and a conference center, a playground, and a series of artificial wetlands created as part of a reclamation project. Despite the nearby local airport, I experienced minimal distractions. Though it wasn't the greatest weather day, I did see wildlife, including some fairly horrific-looking spiders and a raptor of some sort that allowed me to get unusually close (I stumbled on it before carefully walking away). Alligators were not visible, and in my experience they do tend to hide on colder days, but I definitely believe there were some around. It's a great resource for the community, and it's free. If I were local, I would be checking out the event calendar.

Augusta Riverwalk in Georgia is a wonderful place to unwind and relax at. While my family was in…read moretown bike riding the Greenway in South Carolina we decided to cross state lines and ride in Georgia a little bit. That's when we stumbled upon the Riverwalk. It's a fully brick walkway along the Savannah. My family enjoyed our time here while we took a break from bike riding. Along the path there are numerous picnic tables that offer spectacular views of the river, but the path does not offer a lot of shade. However there is an amphitheater that has a canopy with a couple of benches, if you are looking to get out of the sun. Although my family had a good time at the Riverwalk there is some maintenance that needs to be done. The trellises that are in front of the amphitheater were withered; there was noticeable deterioration of the wood and visible rotting of the wood. Even though the riverwalk path needs some maintenance, I had a wonderful time enjoying nature and relaxing near the Savannah River. I would definitely recommend going to the Riverwalk in Augusta Georgia, if you want to get some fresh air while enjoying the scenery and the sounds of nature.

I assume it's about 3 miles as you can walk at the top level or the bottom level. What was really nice was that along the journey was the water where you you saw the different level measures of flooding in the area that occurred like in 1908, 1928, 1990 and other eras. There were beautifully crafted artwork either bought or on loan to the city of Augusta. Also there were a lot of historical plaques of which one was a paper mill in the area at one time but I'm not sure of the actual location. There was a photo of Moody 1946 which was interesting. I was really sad to see so many fallen beautiful trees which showed how the ecosystem is changing and impacting Mother Earth. I would definitely be going back to this place again.
