I purchased bulk food items without writing the code on the packages. the cashier did not want to look up the codes. she told me that she knows the codes but called the manager. the manager said it would take awhile to look up the codes and that the cashier doesn't know them. the manager herself could have looked them up. I kept repeating myself, then she tried to gaslight me by saying I'm raising my voice. she did not want me to challenge her. why is it a problem to look up codes, when all grocery stores do so? this is not the first time that associates at this store are coming across as biased, prejudice and racist. remember, you're the one in customer service. read more

If I could give this place a ZERO I would! Went in 2day around 12:45 to purchase Lavinia. Went to a store clerk to locate the product . She was friendly and helped me right away. I then asked where the cereal was and she pointed me to it. The clerk stocking on that aisle was completely opposite of thec1st clerk: surly, rude, argumentative! I asked wherevthebAlpen musli was. She typed it on her phone after I spelled it for her & said you'd never carried it. Not true, I've seen it there b4. She argued until I left. I am just leaving the Basic Food in Beaumont Tx. I hsked for assistance by the manager on duty. I was given a look as though she hated me. I am a black man and she told me that there was other employees that could help me. I said, you are the manager right? She pointed and another ladyca up and asked ma I hel you. I said yes need another manager. She said that the manager had orders and other things to do so please excu her. I said there was n excuse for being rude. A manager should know that. About 5 minutes later a Caucasian lady asked the manager for help and she stopped what she was doing to help her and helped a man after that. Then went back to what she was doing. What she did pissed me off or was racism to the max. She was so nice smiling and talking to the other people and was so hateful to me a customer. My wife was with me and she asked me to get help that's why I went to the manager. I am also married to a white lady 21 years now so I know when I am being treated hateful and I refuse to except it. She needs another job that matches her attitud. I was being nice giving one star. But the lady that helped us was nice. read more

Basic Foods is the best place in all of Beaumont to shop for organic produce. I'm a bit biased as I worked here for a while before moving to Austin but In working here I learned what care is taken to make sure this business is ran well. The Meat Department is beyond compare, I'm not sure if he is still there but the butcher Mr. Bob could had been a butcher all his life and could carve a slab of meat like no man I've ever seen and growing up the country where we raised our own livestock I've seen many giant slabs of beef carved up into something delicious and Mr. Bob was the best I've ever seen. The Deli is ran by a wonderful woman name Wanda who makes the best soup and sandwich that your ever going to get from a grocery store deli. I could rant for a few hours about what they do right here. Do yourself a favor and shop at Basic Foods you wont be disappointed. read more

I will agree with most - way too many vitamins. I think they are trying to be a nice health store that has food and health products such as vitamins, but in comparison to the rest of the store, it seems overwhelming. Maybe they get a lot of vitamin business, but I have never even walked down those aisles. My other complaint would be the prices. In comparison to other stores in the area, the price is pretty high. Now there are some things here that I can NOT get anywhere else in Beaumont. However, for the things that happen to be at other stores (organic produce, certain non-dairy cheeses, non-dairy milks, frozen items, etc), they are always more expensive. Why do I still rate them high? They have some very wonderful items that I can't get locally. Everything is always well taken care of and clean. The people are always very friendly. Their little fresh baked goodies and snack/lunch section at the front of the store is always stocked with goodies. For Beaumont, this is awesome and well above average. read more

This would have been a five star review, if it wasn't for the Prepared hot chicken WITH MSG ON IT. Folks, if you don't know the many names for MSG, please do yourselves a health duty and look them up. Hydrolized Soy Protein is one of them. :( It is really sad for any natural store to sell ANY product containing MSG. So I was very disappointed to find that I had a headache, increased appetite, and increased thirst after eating the product and reading the ingredients label. My tip if you are beginning to eat healthy is to ALWAYS read labels EVEN at all-natural stores. ONE thing you never want to see is ANY of the alternate names for MSG. Umm...well in a city with no Whole foods, Trader Joe's...etc...this is what one must rely on for organic food?! First...WAY too many vitamins. There is absolutely no need for them to be taking up over 10% of your floor space...what is this a cult? Second...while the deli wrap was tasty, it took forever to make AND the (very friendly) ladies had no idea what chutney was...and it was on their menu? Third...Clean yourself up! I think that Basic Foods is fantastic-moving here from Atascocita, where there was no place like it for miles around. We would have to go to the Woodlands or downtown Houston to go to Whole Foods or something like that. Beaumont should be proud they have a store like it here. I don't get the parking issue either...makes no sense to me as the overall parking lot for all stores is huge. read more

I will never shop here again. I bought some items here that were non parishable and they charge 20% to return anything. That is very unethical and unfair and I have never heard of any store charging 20% on returns. read more

This is the place to go for any dietary needs you have. They many of the special food needs as well as the supplements you may need. For the most part the staff is very knowledgable and willing to help you find just what you need. While it does not have the selection that a stand alone vitamin or whole foods store but I have not see a place better that does both. read more

The name says it all, it is indeed, very very basic. Compared to most organic grocery stores this place can't compete. It's a shame too, because they could occupy a real niche market for this area. Their produce section is tiny and very limited, same goes for their meat section (almost all of it was in a deep freezer). They have a deli which looked nice, but it was empty and it was lunch hour. Not a promising sign. The biggest disappointment was their cheese selection. There really wasn't one. I came for some organic (hopefully local) goat cheese. They don't stock it. Wow, really no goat cheese? Their staff also seems checked out, I couldn't find anyone to help me look for the cheese. I breezed through their organic healthcare section, it looked decently stocked, but I came here looking for food. It seems there is some sort of disconnect at this store. They need to decide what they want to emphasize and they also need to have staff on hand to help customers. Not such a great experience here. read more

Coming from California, it is hard to find a store like Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. I thought I would like Basics since they have organic, vegan and speciality items that you don't find in regular grocery stores. Products are good but very pricey and they close at 7pm during the week. This makes it difficult for those of us that works later :-/ read more

I am from Washington State and am used to shopping at Whole Foods or PCC market back in my state so, I was pleasantly surprised to find a local store far away from a major population center specializing in organic foods. Given the size of the store there is a reasonable selection of products and just like any other store some of their prices are good and some are higher. Personally, I value my health over food that is laden with "Roundup", is nutrient deficient or genetically modified, so it's a no brainer. On certain days they give a 10% discount. I found the vitamin prices to be very good, especially Garden of Life when they run specials. The store gets some fresh locally grow beef and poultry and they usually have fresh, organic, though limited vegetables and fruits. I really like the fact that their pineapples are organic! By the way, I almost forgot to mention that the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I would like to see them stay open one night until 8pm as I work late and have a half hour drive to the store. All said and done, check the store out and see for yourself. read more

Most of the staff is spectacular and incredibly helpful. They know about the products and if they don't they will look it up for you. This is were i always go for essential oils and holistic care treatments. The products can be pricey but they're worth it. They have a nice selection of health foods and drinks, all that I've tried were delicious, including cold coffee drinks, lemonades, and chocolate milks. read more
