Tried this new (for us) Indian restaurant for the first time recently. From our experience, it won't be our last visit. First, the ambiance. The atmosphere was bright and clean. Surprisingly, although we were there on a Friday night, we were the only patrons throughout our meal. According to a member of the staff (possibly the chef?), the establishment had been running as a carry-out-only operation for some time, due to difficulties finding waitstaff. A great pity, as there were a good number of very pleasant seating options, and our server was quite friendly and accommodating. Next, the service: as the only diners in the place, we got full attention. Food came out soon enough. And as for said food: very nice. I ordered the lamb, which came with rice. The co-diner got a red lentil dumpling, in a cashew cream sauce. Both entrees were very well prepared, and (in my case) in a sufficiently large quantity that I took some home. We ordered naan, which was fluffy and very tasty. We were happy to have leftovers to take with us. All in all, we were glad to discover Basil Indian Bistro, and look forward to our next visit. read more

It's a big restaurant and banquet hall. It's new and modern looking inside. It looks good. Ordered the chicken seekh kebab, gobi chili, honey chili crispy potatoes, Chana masala, dosa masala and Tadka Dahl. $84.80 Staff asked us to be patient with the food coming out. It's a bit slow. The chili fries are yummy, spicy. The chicken kafta is dry, still very fragrant and flavorful. It's better with the cilantro chutney and the yogurt sauce makes it more palatable as well. The gobi chili is okay, the chili sauce with the fries is what we expected the gobi chili to taste like, it's different here, still not too bad. The rice isn't my favorite, it's small grain, not the basmati rice I was expecting. It seems dry and almost disintegrates upon adding the tadka Dahl to it. The potato and pea masala is really good. A small portion comes with the dosa masala. The tadka Dahl is runny and the lentils are pulverized to bits, it has more of a soup consistency to it. The dosa is very crispy, maybe too crispy for me. The dosa is good with the mango chutney. The Chana masala was ok. Not quite the flavoring I was expecting or hoping for though. The service here is good, just slow to get the food out. The chili fries were the best out of everything we ordered tonight. They could use this seasoning on the gobi and it would make it so much better. read more

Absolutely our favorite restaurant in the area! Everyone told me to try it so we went for my birthday tonight and everything was fabulous My favorites are the vegetable Kashmiri pulav (read description in menu photo) and the paneer pasanda A glass of great Malbec was only $7! Ugh, I sadly wanted to love this place because it's close to us. However, I had to wait 30+ minutes for my to-go order and when I got home and opened the rice containers, there was mold. The butter chicken, palak paneer, and naan were just okay. I sadly don't think I'll order from them again because of the mold in cooked rice issue. read more

It is a new the area and it is my first visit. The interior is beautiful. I've ordered Butter chicken, Baigan Bharta, and chicken changezi. They are very delicious and the presentation is good. As an appetizer, i've ordered honey chili crispy potatoes. It is still delicious but kind of french fries with the sweet and tangy sauce. The staff is kind and caring. Hello all - I am not sure that they understand the customer service.. we had called this Resturant for about 10 times and after trying 10 times.. I was finally able to reserve for 2 people for This Saturday. The lady on the call told me that there is none available & I asked for following week. She did not even asked for how many people. Responded with another No. their website says that we can only call and reserve.. no online reservation.. if you reserve online via Google assist, I got a rejection.. Ok.. finally over the phone after 11th time i got a reservation for 2 this Saturday and I planned for a date night with wife.. now I got a text Respected Guest, Unfortunately due to unavailability of trained service staff Basil Indian Bistro will NOT be able to take Dine-in reservations. Great food and amazing service. We walked in a little early on a Friday evening, initially we were the only guests in the restaurant. The dining area was very tastefully decorated with quiet Indian music playing in the background. Our orders were taken promptly, we put in an order of Samosas, they came with sweet and spicy chutney. Great tasting but a little on the petite side for the price. My wife ordered Chicken Tikka Masala (her usual) and I asked for a recommendation and ended up with a great lamb dish. Food was too salty. The food had no flavor. Asked for a dish without coconut and they still made it with coconut. Rice wasn't basmati and was sticky. Tamarind chutney had hint of tamarind, and had an apple purée consistency. So much weirdness going on. And I have eaten Indian food all my life. Surprised with the ratings. Amazing food, friendly staff, and generous portions! My sister went here a few weeks ago and I got to try her leftovers. We were told the food was made to order and you could tell it was. Flavor was excellent, very fresh. We tried 3 appetizers, 2 mains, an a naan. All amazing. Fresh herbs and freshly made in house sauces. I love paneer and many places just use processed / mass produced paneer, which usually has a rubbery texture. This was fresh and lovely. It's a fake ordering site. When I got to the restaurant, the owner told me they never received any online order from me and that they don't use Yelp. My mom and I came in to eat for Mother's Day, and this place did not disappoint! The food was amazing-- we got the Chicken Curry, Butter Chicken, and the Palak Paneer with Garlic Naan. Food was great. We really loved the green rice and the murch dish. We ordered quite a few things and went home with yummy leftovers. The chef / owner came out to answer our questions about some ingredients. One of us avoids lactose, and she was very amenable to making changes. Service was otherwise very friendly and helpful. I am not a fan of Indian food, but agreed to go because my husband and friends love it, and I am glad I did. The restaurant was inviting, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, and the food was delicious! The flavors were wonderful, the potions plentiful, the variety perfect. All I can say is I don't believe I ever truly had Indian food until I had it at Basil Indian Bistro. WOW-Everything was wonderful!!!! The food exceeded every expectation I had, it was if I was at a friends home and they were preparing a home cooked authentic Indian meal. The restaurant is beautiful, clean, new and modern. The staff is warm, friendly, and accommodating to whatever I asked for (I asked the food not be too spicy). Oh, and the portions- well we had plenty to take home to get a whole other meal for lunch the next day! I loved it so much I went back two days later, and again they nailed it! As much as I always thought I enjoyed Indian food elsewhere locally, I truly don't think I ever had the real deal until I was introduced to Basil by a dear friend! While on a business trip, I was headed for some sushi when I saw the small sign for Basil Indian Bistro, which sounded like a better option. Though it was not overly busy (it was a Wednesday evening) the tables were all nicely set. The place itself is very comfortable and traditional Indian music is playing over the speakers. My server was quick to come and I ordered a frozen jalapeno and mango margarita. It was thick and not overly cold, but had an interesting flavor. I ordered the Shrimp Coconut Curry with Garlic Naan. The curry had a generous amount of piping hot shrimp and sauce, which I asked for as medium spiced. It was extremely tasty and the shrimp tasted very fresh. The naan was also excellent for dipping in all the sauce. Overall a very nice meal and I will return. My server checked on me several times, which was appreciated, It is not easy to find from the road, but if you enjoy fine dining Indian food this is worth the visit. read more

Wow, what a delicious surprise! For a lovely night celebrating slow, lovingly cooked food, try this bistro. While our server did an amazing job herself, she was upfront with the time food took. I will go back because the menu had tons of my favorite South Indian foods. The spice levels were noted and not uncomfortable but my guest preferred more mild choices if possible for the next time. My husband and I ate at Basil Indian Bistro last night with friends who rave about it. We now know why and LOVED it too. Seriously, this is the best Indian restaurant we've found in Detroit, by far. What's more, the atmosphere is very nice and the owner / chef is delightful. They even treated us to a delicious free dessert. It's a little hard to find - which may explain why it wasn't very busy for 6:30 on a Saturday. It is on the West side of NW Hwy, near Home Depot (S of 14-mile). Do not be nervous if there aren't many people there. It's a newer restaurant that has yet to be discovered. Truly a hidden gem. So, give it a try and be AMAZED. Ordered carry out with my boyfriend and we absolutely loved it! The service was great, very kind and attentive employees. When we went to pick up we noticed that the inside was clean, updated and overall a nice, new establishment. The food was tasty, fresh and had unique flavors.
