Yelp has come through yet again. Friends were in from California and I wanted to make a good…read moreimpression. So I told them I knew of, but haven't tried (just in case the place didn't work out well), an outstanding eatery of their traditional cuisine. My search brought us here. Small, clean, intimate and a little material ambiance, this place was filled with fabulous sounds and smells. It was almost like a blind date. In this case, we knew the people not the venue. The staff were friendly and exchanged a few pleasantries with our friends that I didn't understand. It brought about many smiles. I enjoyed everything that floated past me except the Aam Diya. I'm sure it was prepared as it should've been, I'm just not a big mango nut. The Mulligatawny soup was fabulous as was the Tandoori Chicken Biryani. Next time we come I'll be eating the Chana Massala and the Vindaloo. The price is right and the portions are fair. The neighborhood has seen better days but that doesn't affect the experience. 11/25

Not bad for authentic tasting Indian food…read more Ordered goat goat korai and lamb korma, garlic naan, coriander sampler. All in all very good! Korma was slightly sweet even though I ordered mild spice. Keep that in mind. The goat taste better than lamb, which is more dense. The korai was delicious. Not heavy since it is not too creamy. The spice level of mild plus was perfect and not overwhelming but I'm glad I DIDN'T get medium else it would have been too spicy. Garlic naan was good but not special. The coriander sampler was a nice combo of all their appetizers - kabob, tandoori, lamb chop. It was a bit salty but flavor was there. small place with few tables. Service was not bad. Lady was patient in answering my qs.

The truth is, I don't want to share. I will hoard my precious bowls of butter chicken and forget all decorum. There is something beguiling about this sauce... and yes, I realize I'm talking about food. But you have to try this dish to understand my devotion. It is about more than the flavor which is incredibly layered, but it's so silky and rich that I could probably drink it by the cupful. Yes, I'm talking about food, don't look at me! Let me just eat in peace, with a giant spoon and a bib. I will even use a veil to hide my shame. The service is always friendly and lovely, and I think they might be a little worried when the tall white lady comes in all wild eyed and hungry. The ambiance is fine, as far as I know, my singular mission is to obtain the butter chicken, I am not sure if they have tables and chairs. The menu looks incredible, with recipes that are probably just as delicious as the butter chicken. But here is my problem... if I try another dish that is just as good as the BC, then what do I do?! I will be back here with another confession even more delicious.

Keep seeing lots of folks picking up orders and double parking their cars in the driveway to come in and pick up their carry out orders. Ordered starter Gobi Manchurian, veggie samosa, 2 dal soup, Chana masala, Tarka daal, mushroom bhaji and tandoori chicken. $94.24 They gave us the crunchy thin Papadum. Be careful while eating that the seasoning on top doesn't flip up into your eyes, it did that to my husband. He flicked off the seasoning so it wouldn't do it again. The Papadum is good. There was a random empty water bottle at the table. Table top is peeling, needs a refinish. I would put the fly strip in a more discrete spot and not hang it in the vestibule behind the counter. The samosas are good, dough is nice and light, like a wonton and it's packed with potatoes, peas and corn, which is a bit odd. It's better with some chutney. The Gobi Manchurian tastes good, just not crispy at all. The lentil soup is scalding, it's good. I like the roasted garlic in the soup and added some lemon to it as well. The Chana masala is okay, they put potatoes in it as filler instead of more chick peas. Other than the potatoes, it's good. The butter chicken is rather sweet, it's still pretty good. I am glad the chicken chunks aren't too big in this dish. Not a fan when it seems like the pieces are half a breast of chicken. Mushrooms aren't too bad. Not special. The lentils are good. Their garlic naan tastes sweet, almost, it's decent. The tandoori chicken is good.

The cheese naan was weird tasting. Not sure what cheese it was, but it just tasted off. I had a couple bites and that was that. The rice was hard/almost stale tasting. Clearly undercooked which is a bit perplexing to me considering how much rice they presumably make on a daily basis. Had two bites before stopping. The lamb was inedible. It was the least tender meat I've ever had from a restaurant. There were about a dozen chunks/pieces. I took a bite or tried to take a bite out of each one. I couldn't take a bite out of a single one. Absolutely disgusting. Very disappointing considering it was close to $20 and the food wasn't cooked. BIG YIKES.

Surprisingly, although we were there on a Friday night, we were the only patrons throughout our meal. According to a member of the staff (possibly the chef?), the establishment had been running as a carry-out-only operation for some time, due to difficulties finding waitstaff. A great pity, as there were a good number of very pleasant seating options, and our server was quite friendly and accommodating. Next, the service: as the only diners in the place, we got full attention. Food came out soon enough. And as for said food: very nice. I ordered the lamb, which came with rice. The co-diner got a red lentil dumpling, in a cashew cream sauce. Both entrees were very well prepared, and (in my case) in a sufficiently large quantity that I took some home. We ordered naan, which was fluffy and very tasty. We were happy to have leftovers to take with us. All in all, we were glad to discover Basil Indian Bistro, and look forward to our next visit.

It's a bit slow. The chili fries are yummy, spicy. The chicken kafta is dry, still very fragrant and flavorful. It's better with the cilantro chutney and the yogurt sauce makes it more palatable as well. The gobi chili is okay, the chili sauce with the fries is what we expected the gobi chili to taste like, it's different here, still not too bad. The rice isn't my favorite, it's small grain, not the basmati rice I was expecting. It seems dry and almost disintegrates upon adding the tadka Dahl to it. The potato and pea masala is really good. A small portion comes with the dosa masala. The tadka Dahl is runny and the lentils are pulverized to bits, it has more of a soup consistency to it. The dosa is very crispy, maybe too crispy for me. The dosa is good with the mango chutney. The Chana masala was ok. Not quite the flavoring I was expecting or hoping for though. The service here is good, just slow to get the food out. The chili fries were the best out of everything we ordered tonight. They could use this seasoning on the gobi and it would make it so much better.
