Last week I had a couple of friends come out and visit me in Staten Island. They came out from Jersey, Queens and Brooklyn. We decided that Basil is our official spot for whenever we meet up. The ambience is different than other restaurants on the island. The beautiful teal on the walls takes me on vacation. The food is and always has been over the top delicious. I've tried so many different dishes throughout the year and we have not had a mediocre or subpar dish yet. All the flavors to each dish are distinct and come together like a beautiful symphony in my mouth. The Patiala Goat Curry has become a favorite along with their garlic naan I tried for the first time about a month ago. The other orders on the table were Chicken Korma, Coconut Chicken Pepper Curry, Tandoori Chicken and a Stir Fry Chicken off of their Thai menu. Each and every single one of us left with a blissful heart, smile and stomach with leftovers. The staff here is always welcoming, accommodating and cater towards our palates and preferences. This restaurant remains one of my favorite spots on Staten Island. Highly recommended to dine in and experience the fresh food. read more

Overall: taste was there, wish there was a little more proportion for the price you're paying but not bad. Some authentic flavors and some fusion as this place is a mix of both. Food: it was seasoned well, didnt come out as hot as i thought it would be but the chicken and other beef was cooked well! Service: came on a Saturday night with a party of 3 and the place was pretty packed as a birthday was going on. This is one of those places where one can say it's a hidden gem. I usually go to New Jersey to have good Indian food and was surprised that an indian restaurant in Staten Island can compare to the ones in Jersey. This is the second time my girlfriend and I went to Basil thai and Indian Cuisine. As you walk in the interior is very cozy and they have plenty of seats. But towards the end of our meal it did start to get filled with people. Once seated we got to ordering and we got the lollipop chicken which was pretty good. So good in fact that I took the leftover chicken to my family to try. Which they loved and went to try it again on another day. I ordered the goat biryani and my gf ordered the vegetable pad thai. She found her meal to be pretty good. I found my goat biryani to be really good and probably better than any goat biryanis in Staten Island that I have tried. Overall I would highly recommend this place as a spot to try really good Indian food. read more

My new go to spot in Staten Island. This is a Thai and Indian fusion restaurant. Owners came from NJ where they had a restaurant in Montclair but decided to settle in Staten Island - exciting as there aren't many Thai or Indian options on the island. It's a small family business. I met them and was impressed by how nice they were. The food was delicious too. Prices are mid to high. Street parking was available, but not much, so better to park somewhere and walk over. They do takeout. The decor is very inviting and service is very good too. It's a place I would take my parents to. I saw someone get their order and was impressed with the chefs presentation of the food. If you are in Staten Island and want to try something new, I would recommend it. read more

I've been going to Taste of India on New Dorp Lane for over a decade and after one single dinner at Basil, I'm switching for good. The chicken tikka masala is delicious and creamy. The lamb butter masala is great. The tandoori chicken wings were a yummy appetizer. My only quibble is the same one I have for Taste of India, which is please just give me more basmati rice with the meal. read more

No joke, I had to recover my yelp password just to write this review. Been driving past this restaurant since they've opened and finally tried it tonight via delivery and wow, was blown away. The chicken tikka masala paired with garlic naan was beyond delicious (and toddler approved too!) The pad Thai had the perfect amount of kick to it. i've went a few times and every time i've been there the food has been delicious, specifically the butter chicken and garlic naan. the mango rice is 100% worth trying as well. service is always great our waiter actually helped us understand a lot about the menu as i have never tried indian food before. definitely worth trying. read more

Staten Island has needed a great Thai restaurant for a long time. Basil is that, and so much more, offering outstanding Thai and Indian dishes, as well as many vegan and gluten free options. Since discovering Basil we have been ordering take-out once a week. However, the eat-in restaurant is cozy and beautiful with authentic art and furnishings, and we enjoy dining in as well. Simply put, the food is outstanding. Everything is delicious and prepared with quality ingredients. They will tailor the dishes to taste and accommodate for food allergies etc... My favorite is Pad Thai, and theirs is truly delicious. However, everything my wife and I have ordered, whether Thai or Indian has been wonderful. The service in the restaurant is friendly and attentive. Food is prepared quickly, and the staff give just enough attention (not too much, not too little) when waiting on the table. Well, it isn't the authentic Bangkok-style Thai restaurant I've been hoping for in this part of Staten Island, but the food is carefully and elegantly prepared and the service is great. Even when we go early and we're the only table there, I'm impressed. I ordered garlic nan & veggie samosas to share, and a mango lassi & goat biryani for myself. Every food item served to our table was cooked very well & were all delicious. I especially like their attention to detail. The server asked each of us in our dinner party what level of spiciness we preferred our meals to be prepared. I requested mine to be mild and my entree was cooked exactly how i wanted it to be. It's a small restaurant but their warm & cozy ambiance made me feel right at home. Appetizers: honey cauliflower and samosas were phenomenal! Main: tandoori chicken - tasty, juicy, fresh; pad Thai - huge portion ( ordered with shrimp, which were grilled maybe, cause it was very tasty); stir fried veggies, added shrimp and asked for extra basil - healthy and very flavorful; lamb butter masala - I ordered spicy, and it really was spicy, but very tasty with garlic naan and roti - which was served super fresh, hot and delicious; and finally - mango lassi - ended up ordering 3 times! This was our first time trying the new restaurant Basil and it was very yummy. The honey chili cauliflower was very yummy and the perfect texture, it was probably my favorite thing I tried. I also really enjoyed the biriyani and vindaloo, but I must say I wish there were more piece of meat in the dishes. The ratio was a little off BUT all the flavors were still there. I also tried the rice pudding which was alright- a little more liquidy than I hoped. All in all, I would still come back here and I'm excited to try some other menu items! read more

Went here for dinner with the S.O, and we were thoroughly impressed with the meals. The first thing I noticed when I came in was how cute and inviting the ambiance is, and love the cozy seating along the walls, the decor, and my favorite was the warm heat on, to get out of the cold! Maybe others might not like it, but I'm always freezing so it felt good for me hahaha. The waitress was very sweet, and was attentive to make sure our waters were filled, checked in on us, and also gave us some thin bread, I think it's called Papadum, with a sauce while we waited for the dishes to come out. S.O had the Aloo Gobi Matar which has cauliflower, potatoes, & peas. I have the Lamb Rogan Josh which was amazing, very tender lamb. We ate it with the Garlic Chilli Naan and used it to scoop up the last bits of sauce left. Everything was delicious and we left with our bellies full! Can't wait to come back again to try more & some of the Thai menu items too. Also, sidenote, bathroom upkeep seemed pretty good too, but of course that always depends on the patrons who use it too! read more

Tonight decided to try this new restaurant for us. Decided to try their takeout menu; which consisted for us: order of regular nann, 2 orders of vegetable Samosa (4 pieces), lamb butter masala and a mango lassi. We were told because of the volume it would be 40 minutes. True to their word, our order was ready for us when we arrived. Upon getting home, the samosas were crisp and came with both dipping sauces. The lamb butter masala was tender and an ample amount With the accompanying portion of rice. (We had asked for it to be mild, because a previous review had said it was too spicy. The next time I will just order it how it comes) it was delicious. The nann was light and airy; exactly how it is supposed too. The next time I will try one of the flavored varieties. The mango-lassi was a full 12 oz; again delicious! We will definitely be returning; the next time dining in. I guess the secret is out though, because they were doing a phenomenal takeout business. I am glad to see this business is doing so well. The total cost was $37.79. Definitely well worth it. read more

Simply amazing! I heard some great things and thought to do a drive by and grab a takeout menu. When I arrived, there were two tables seated and as I walked through I couldn't help but see such beautiful dishes on a table of 3. The atmosphere was nice and the waiter was pleasant. He greeted me when I walked in. I asked for the Togo menu and he handed with a smile. I then decided that it may be a good idea to sit and try the food there rather than take it to go. My husband parked the car and we all (self, husband and son) all came in. We were seated right away. The waiter Surich got us a drink and guided us through the menu. We ordered the Simosas, Garlic and soy Cauliflower, and the vegan drumsticks to start. All were so pretty, perfectly seasoned and presented on plates. We later got the mixed vegetables with chicken and the chicken pad thia noodle which were simply amazing. They food were so vibrant, tasty, perfectly cooked and the flavors were so on point. Not overly dressed either. When we asked for the check, it was brought over with a delicate traditional Indian rice pudding that is called Kheer. The chef later came out and introduced himself and told us a little about his background and the overall story behind Basil. I highly recommend this place and as mentioned Surich (maybe wrong spelling but it's pronounced this way) was very kind and professional. Best of luck my new favorite spot! read more

Our first time here and we are already looking forward to coming back soon. Started our tastings with the chicken dumplings and papaya salad which was very pleasant that we already asked for our warm naan and roti bread made from scratch in their clay oven so we could savor the rest of the salad dressing. The chicken tandoori , pad thigh and lamb stew was absolutely delightful. We requested our dishes to be on the mild spicy level with low salt and the chef still amazed us with our menu choices. So far I've tried this place 3 times. I do like their taste. Taste is much better than other Indian restaurants on the island. They can make it spicy as an Indian would like it. Service is where they need much improvement. The food does take a bit longer. Ambiance is ok. Customer facing service can improve. The owner is reasonable in working out any issues that arise.
