We went to forest thai when it opened for a late lunch/early dinner! I admit that parking was a bit hard to find, but we ended up finding open spots on a nearby street We were the only people there besides one other person dining in, but we saw a lot of people coming in and out to pick up take out orders. The woman serving us was really nice and the first thing I noticed was that the prices were really good in comparison to other Thai restaurants I've been to. We ordered curry puffs as an appetizer, sheimp pad thai, and chicken pad see ew. The curry puffs were pretty good and served on a cute leaf plate, but I do wish the outside was a bit crispier. The main dishes were the perfect size and the pad thai looked especially appetizing with a pile peanuts on the side and a lime slice. My favorite part of the pad see ew were the noodles and there was a nice balance of broccoli, egg, and chicken. I admit that the chicken was drier than I would've liked, but otherwise the pad see ew was really good! My boyfriend thought the pad thai was a bit sweet, but other than that, he was satisfied with his shrimp pad thai. Overall, I had a great experience at Forest Thai and would come back! read more

I was a bit iffy about coming here due to the reviews but I was so glad to try this spot out. The prices for each dish is very reasonable and not as expensive as the other Thai locations in SI. At around 6pm on a Tuesday there was quite a few people wiating for their orders to takeout and dine in. Service is a bit slower due to the very limited amount of staff members that work here. Forest on Thai is a place that stands out as one of the only true Thai restaurants on Staten Island. Their soups were made with more herbs than you'd get at most Asian takeouts. The same can be said for their noodle plates, which I found to have more herbs and more of an overall home-cooked touch to them than most of the noodles you get at takeout joints. What truly sets this place apart from most Thai takeout restaurants on Staten Island is the variety of their meat selection. As a pescaterian, I found many options on the menu, and they even make their seafood fried rice with real crab ! I ordered a Yellow Curry Scallops dish which was absolutely delicious. They make it with baby scallops, and for $11, the portion was fairly large. My first review was around 8 years ago. I'm so happy that this little family restaurant survived during the Covid-19 pandemic. I have been a patron during that period. First, Forest Thai cuisine is the best on this island. I know that 8 years ago when I went there for the first time I compared their Pad Thai with a historic restaurant in downtown Manhattan near the old fish market called Benny's which sadly has permanently closed. I miss that place. With that said let get back on track, Forest Thai reminds me of that place. Then the pad that was really good. Today, I don't know, could it be my palate it lacks the freshness of the authentic sauce. Something is amiss but it's better then the others on this island. I've tried many dishes: the curries, their specials, great appetizers, the vegetarian dishes, they are all excellent. I'm not rich so just to mention, the prices are a little steep and the portions are barely enough for one person so don't plan of sharing there is not enough to share. I limit myself to visit the place on occasion just because of the prices and portions. I do not blame any small mom-and-pop shops to charge these astronomical prices; the pandemic has caused a domino effect on price gauging. read more

It's a small store front on Forest Avenue on Staten Island serving really delicious Thai food. A local resident introduced us to it. We ordered curry puffs, pineapple Thai rice, salmon curry with pumpkin (seasonal special), and their "world famous soy chicken" (vegetarian), and roasted duck with lychees. Everything was tasty and well done. It is a small operation and like everywhere else, they are short staffed. There was only one waitress taking care of everyone in the restaurant in addition to the many takeout orders. So the food was slow in coming out. Be prepared to wait. Went to this place because of the reviews on yelp. I love thai food so I was expecting a lot. I was disappointed. My fiance and I order the food to go. Everyone said this place was cheap, but I think it is only cheap during lunch time. During dinner, it is actually $$. We order the Tom Yum Koong soup, Som tum salad, pad thai, yellow curry, and forest thai fried rice. My favorite was the fried rice and the soup. The fried rice was with beef and basil. Perfect blend of seasonings, but I would have liked the beef to have been cut in smaller pieces. The carrots were finely cut so they did not overtake the rice. That was a very good thing. The soup was very good, both hot and sour. I was expecting a lot worse, but they surprised me. The only thing was that it was mainly broth and a few pieces of shrimp. I ordered two individual portions because they did not have a large and that came out to 8 bucks. 8 bucks for broth is not worth it. The salad was salty and had this weird aftertaste to it. I don't know if the papaya was fresh or if it was the dressing, but I did not finish it after two bites. What a waste. The pad thai was bland, there was not much flavor and all the other stuff in the dish were overtaking the noodles. It felt more like a stir fry. The same went for the yellow curry. When I opened up the case, I saw mainly vegetables and meat. I didn't know that it was curry until I lifted up the stuff to see what was underneath. There was nothing spectacular about the sauce. I think the main reason I am giving them a 3 is because they messed up our order. We came there to order the food and waited 20 minutes for it. The lady gave us our food and we left to get out of the cold weather. When we got home, we were missing the salad and the pad thai, but had an additional rice plate. We lived about three miles away so I wasn't going to go back and get it. I called and they acknowledged that they forgot the salad, but did not know about the pad thai. I told the lady I wanted it delivered, but when I told her our address, she said that she may not be able to do it. After talking to the driver, she said she could, but it would take an hour. Since it was snowing and raining outside, I told her just deliver it because I was not willing to go back. The moral of this story is check your food order before you leave the place. read more

During that 30 minutes she was running back and forth accommodating the one other table. She basically served them until they got all their food and then came to us. At least take our drink order you know? We were starving. We finally ordered and we ordered 2 Thai iced teas, scallop curry fried rice, pad Thai, and eggplant with shrimp rice dish. Everything tasted great but there was no kick to it. Like isn't pad Thai suppose to be spicy? Isn't curry suppose to be spicy? The dishes were spicy at all but still good. We weren't able to finish the second round but our waitress offered to put it in a to go cup for us to take it home which was great!! Extra star for that! I've been a customer at Forest Thai for over a year and generally always order delivery and sure they've forgotten a salad or two once and it's a forgivable offense because the rest of the food is usually pretty tasty. However, I recently ordered with my friend and I was about halfway through eating my food when I found a spiral METAL wire in my food. It looked like something that would hold a bag of potatoes together. I immediately stopped eating and told my friend. Had I ingested that, I could have torn my esophagus or worse. And god forbid something like that be found in a child's meal. I called the restaurant to let them know and they flat out denied something like that could happen, and I'm like well it did, and my meal and my friends food is now ruined because I'd rather not have to sort through a minefield while I'm eating. The management was rude and said they would refund half of my meal... complete joke. When TWO meals were ruined and I could have ended up in the hospital. The manager didn't even offer an apology. I'll be going to Noodlefan from now on. Had they handled the situation better, I would have remained a customer. read more

If you need a Thai fix and you're close to Forest Ave on the Island, this is def the place to go. I had the Curry Puffs, Summer Rolls, Soft Shell Crab, Basil Noodle with Chicken, and Pad Thai w/ Chicken. The curry puffs are amazing, however, I recommend eating them at the place. Do not ask for them to deliver. For some reason the last 3 orders I had, they tend to skimp out on the stuffing inside the puffs. Summer rolls are delish too. Very fresh and very healthy. Everything is made to order. Soft Shell Crab was aright. I've had better. To me, it wasn't as fresh and tasted very fishy. Basil Noodle with chicken was awesome too. Wasn't too happy with the slices of tomato. That was something I've never experienced before in Basil Noodle. Also, I don't know if the owner is a woman, but she was a little rude to her customers. Didn't feel really welcome, and by the way she was acting, she sounded like she has enough customers where she really doesn't care how she treats people. Very weird! Cute little place right on Forest across from Cookie Jar (which has some killer cookies) parking is pretty easy on the street. It was kind of crowded when we got there, wasn't the best decor but it had to be good with the crowd in there. Got our menus right away and they had some good stuff to try out. I of course had to order the spring rolls, I am obsessed with them and especially as a appetizer, we also tried the steamed shrimp dumplings which were good too. I got the Pad Lard Na which actually doesn't even sound good but it was really good it was like a flat thick noodle with chicken and vegetables, I liked it and I actually had left overs. You can't go wrong with the prices, pretty cheap and good food and nice size too. The service is decent and the food is quick. When my beautiful wife turned to me today and said, "I want Thai food tonight," I had no idea where to go. So I hit the internet and we found Forest Thai. So we gave it a try and we were not disappointed. She started with Miso soup and I HAD to try the Tom Kha Gai which I have not had in years! Both of the soups were excellent! A real treat, and for me, the Tom Kha Gai alone would be worth going back for. We ordered chicken satay and fried vegetable dumplings as appetizers. Those were just okay. I am used to pan seared dumplings and sort of expected that. But these were deep fried as was the chicken for the satay. Not our favorite. I went traditional for dinner and order the Pad Thai while my wife ordered Thai fired rice with chicken. The Pad Thai was excellent and my wife's rice dish was very good. So two hits and one miss (the appetizers). We will go back for sure. One thing to know is that this is a beer and wine place only...no mixed drinks. And the wine is so-so. Forest Thai was my first experience with Thai food and I wholly enjoyed it! Their chicken pad thai and coconut rice were very good. This being the first time we sampled a lot of different dishes (most of which turned out to have shrimp in them). Our total was $68 but that was for three people and amply leftovers. Their sauces were light and flavorful. I was left satisfied, not uncomfortably full. I phoned in my order and picked it up on my way home from work. The location is good but I believe there's only street parking. The interior is nice, nothing special. The staff was very nice. I gave this place a five for it's lunch takeout since because I did not eat dinner here to compared it for dinner purposes. I came here around 2 pm and the place was not crowded. It is located on a busy street so you can not find easy parking unless you park in the Walgreens parking lot. The place itself is not very big but it does have a decent dining room. I would not recommend this place for a huge party unless you can get the whole restaurant. I ordered takeout and got the lunch special vegetarian pad thai with vegetarian chicken. The person who took my order asked if I wanted my order to come with egg or not which I thought was important for someone who wanted a vegetarian dish. The order was prepared in five minutes and was pipping hot when I got it. The whole dish cost me $5.95 and included the meal and a side salad with their own dressing. The amount of food that they gave for the meal was huge. First they placed the vegetarian chicken separately and they gave about 7 huge pieces that were prepared separately from the pad thai. They actually cooked the vegetarian chicken in a separate sauce. It was a bit greasy but not too much. Just enough to give you that great taste without the sick feeling afterward. As for the pad thai noodles, they were made of good noodles, the type that you should find in pad thai. They were made with small chopped tofu that was found through out the dish. The peanut pieces were placed in the corner of the dish so that you can choose to mix it in or keep it out of the dish. Again the noodles were a bit greasy but not overly greasy. For under 6 bucks for lunch, not only was the food delicious, fast but it was also very memorable. I can not wait to go back there again. read more

So, I noticed that the reviews are getting worse. We were here recently, and yes, the service has not improved, and they have gotten slower. I noticed that they hired 2 new people, so maybe it will get better. I also noticed that they have been significantly more busy than usual, and they clearly cannot handle it. I have witnessed the shenanigans that they sometimes pull with takeout orders, as well. I still enjoy the food, though!
