My husband been here few times before and said this place is good so it is my turn to try out. This restaurant is Laos/Thai but lean more to Laos style since the owner is Laos. It was late and we just wanted some Asian foods the last minute so we ordered a lot. We got: - Calamari tempura: Crispy, but a little too chewy and batter to somehow taste like onion. But still good with the spicy mayo. - Spicy Tuna: got as accommodation and surprisingly the best of the night. The perfect combination, crispy fried wonton, spicy tuna, avocado and sliced onion. So gooood. - Tom Kha: I usually would order Tom Yum but that night I was craving something creamy, so I got Tom Kha with seafoods. They loaded that thing up with a lot of meats. Wr did ordered Thai Spicy level but it is basically just level 1 to us, we didn't send back because it was late and we don't want to bother them. If you could it spicy go ahead and try Thai spicy level. - Beef Panang: They again loaded that thing up with a lot of beef. Flavor and creamy. You also can try Thai hot with this one. - Spicy Kani Rolls: Come with 8 pieces (but my husband ate 2 lol). A decent sushi rolls, good that we tried. I recently ordered takeout from Basil of Monroe. The food itself was quite good. I ordered the Pad See Ew, which had solid flavor and was not bad at all. I also wanted to try the mango with sticky rice, but they did not have it available. It is likely a seasonal item. However, I will not be returning to this restaurant. When I arrived to pick up my food, I discovered they add a mandatory 15% automatic gratuity to all takeout orders. This unexpected fee was not made clear upfront. While the food is decent, forcing a tip on a carryout order without prior warning is a policy I cannot support. read more

So frustrating that their menu is not at all reflective of their pricing. I ordered takeout which according to the menu they have posted is around $25 after rounding ip. Two sushi rolls. They say it's $36. Tax and their ridiculous automatic gratuity of 15% isn't even $11? When I get there and check my receipt, both rolls have gone up 3$ from the menu price listed. Plus they still have the 15% gratuity. Pick a struggle. Thats for a togo meal of two rolls is just ridiculous. We eat in all the time and it's not like the service is good either. Check your receipt! June 30, 2026-Two of us went for lunch and ordered four items. Only one of the four items rang up at the menu price. The other three items were between $2 an $3 extra over what the menu price listed before tax. The general manager reluctantly adjusted my receipt, then apologized. He said that the owner of the business did not want to spare the expense of printing new menus. I let him know that this is illegal and that businesses are required to charge the advertised prices. The food was mediocre, and I will not be back as I don't give my patronage to someone who doesn't put back into their business and who is blatantly getting away with false advertising. Always great food!! They were super busy but no issues with anything! Food came out in great timing. Our server, Sydney, was amazing and very attentive. We even had a spill and she was too kind and made sure no one was embarrassed by the situation as she spoke quiet and worked quick to get things cleaned up. She's an absolute jewel! The FRIED DUMPLINGS were good. I was taken back a bit because they are truly "fried" as in "deep fried". But still a nice appetizer. The PHOENIX SUSHI ROLL is one of my absolute favorites! Served warm, everything about this role is delicious. There are so many flavors that explode in your mouth... If you're looking for something new to try, this is it! The PHO' WITH MEATBALL AND EGG NOODLES was so warm and delicious. The broth was super clear and so flavorful. The egg noodles, I like them better than traditional noodles. This is my first time trying them. The meatballs were good. Different, but good. I would definitely get that again. As for the atmosphere, I'm not marking off for this because out of all the times that I've been there this was the only night that I've ever experienced this issue... The music was so loud and the genre of music played was definitely not typical of any Asian house that I've been in; it was a little offputting. Nothing was vulgar, nothing had any harsh language or disturbing lyrics, just not a great choice of music for the restaurant. But more so than that it was the volume. The exterior of the restaurant was missing curb appeal. We pulled into the parking lot and were slightly worried. When we were seated in our booth, the cushion was badly ripped. As soon as our server came over and introduced herself, our night quickly took a turn for the better! Jessica our server had the most genuinely kind disposition. She was so knowledgeable on the menu items and anything she couldn't tell us, she quickly found out for us. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious! I really don't like to post negative comments but I was sorely disappointed with my takeout I eat here all the time and I have never ordered takeout before usually I enjoy this restaurant. This time we got half of the food you get when you order at the restaurant and we ordered the same dishes. Plus, it cost the same amount as the full portion. I ordered Mongolian beef was zero peppers but I got about 15 red peppers in my dish. Inedible. The vegetable tempura had little tiny pieces of vegetables and not the normal large size ones that you get in the restaurant plus half of what you get when you order at Basil. Once again I'm sorry to complain, but I am hoping my post will cause them to have better service. Worst experience. Bad waiter. Drinks were awful, they tasted sour. The lo mein was plain noodles with nothing added in. Even after confronting the waiter (Robert) he insisted that was the way it came. Robert was not a good waiter, he couldn't even remember what we had ordered.
