Two fried green tomatoes left of the five. Excellent

Ok, we REALLY wanted to like this place! We stayed at the hotel, which is AWESOME (at least our deluxe king room was- I read other reviews saying the rooms were small. Ours was great. We went down to eat around 8pm. Waited for a bit, but not too long. It was loud, but just because the other diners talked loudly. It has a sports bar vibe with luxury dining prices. The waitress was super sweet. We skipped cocktails, and ordered the fried green tomatoes: STELLAR, highly recommend! Two Caesar salads- they were forgotten, and our entrees came out WAY too fast, so we felt like we had to rush the appetizer so our food didn't get cold. Hubby ordered the catfish atchafalaya. He was very hungry and super disappointed that we were not getting the salads we ordered, so he dug in. It was so salty (and he loves salt) he couldn't tell the difference between the rice and the catfish. Catfish was crisp and perfectly cooked- but tasted like nothing but burnt salt. Had the waitress checked on us within the next ten or 15 minutes, he would have sent it back. But she didn't reappear for a very long time, so he kept nibbling until his tongue was pickled and the food was gone. She showed up when the plate was empty. I got the Mac's and cheese seafood gnocchi. I couldn't eat half of it because it was so salty. The three shrimp on top were delicious, though. We told the waitress it was inedible. She took 50% off the bill. So we were "only" out $60 With prices like this, the wait staff and food should be much much better. She was really sweet, just not as present as one would hope. And why did the salads get skipped? Weird.

Overall, the food was good and we had a good time. They were out of quite a few things on the menu which was a little disappointing, and we went on a Thursday. Everyone was really polite, drinks took a little bit longer than we would have liked but we did have a good bit of people. Would 100% go again, but with less people. Would be perfect for a dinner date for two people! Catfish Etouffee was so awesome!! Would highly recommend!

Love it all! I'll be back next time I'm home in Monroe. The food was amazing........ The only thing I'd say is to have a better selection of non alcoholic drinks......other than that awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

The gluten free goodness soaking in rummy butter sauce

We stayed at Hotel Monroe for a wedding so we were able to enjoy Heirloom for a few days. The breakfast was so good. I enjoyed it to the very last bite! I did not try out anything on their dinner menu, but I may have ordered bread pudding two nights in a row. The hostess was so sweet & very helpful! I am gluten intolerant & so it was very nice to be able to enjoy some things that I usually can't have on a regular basis. I love how chill the restaurant is- it's not super loud in my opinion. The first night they even had a musician & it was a pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant catered the wedding so that was an experience too! Eating rolls & meatballs that are gluten free at a wedding?!!! Whhhat? So good! Y'all deserve a pat on the back!

It is a truly magnificent venue Cotton and it was understandably bustling with a very lively, chic Saturday crowd. The interior design is absolutely exquisite. I was deeply impressed by the sophisticated decor and the stunning murals that grace the space. It had been quite some time since my last visit, and stepping back inside reminded me exactly why this place is an absolute standout. I was escorted to a wonderfully private table, which allowed for a perfectly serene dining experience despite how busy they were. The service was entirely impeccable from start to finish. I began the afternoon by speaking with my attentive waiter and ordering a classic Bloody Mary, which was mixed to absolute perfection. For my selection from the menu, I chose the Deviled Farm Eggs, and they were a total culinary triumph deeply satisfying and beautifully presented. Between the vibrant atmosphere, the flawless service, and the exceptional flavors, the experience deserved full marks. I am thoroughly delighted and will certainly not wait so long to return next time!

We started with the upside down chicken Caesar salad with fries. Delicious. Fries could've been hotter but the salad was the star. A meal on its own but i love that red fish so much. So seasoned, beautiful meaty fish, mmm. The service was wonderful and the sweet tea was delicious. I will always come here if I'm in town!

Upon entering, I found the interior decor to be rather average and understated but do not let that fool you for a single moment. The true piece de resistance is the spectacular view of the Ouachita River just on the other side. It is absolutely magnificent, providing the most glorious backdrop that would be utterly perfect for an elegant evening out, a romantic date, or a refined family gathering. While the setting isn't overly fancy, the natural beauty of the river paired with the immense warmth of the staff makes it incredibly special. To commence our meal, I opted for a classic, perfectly chilled Martini, while my partner ordered the Watermelon Breeze both were thoroughly refreshing. As we sat chatting and taking in the scenery, we ordered the Shrimp and Grits along with a side of hush puppies. When the cuisine arrived, it was an absolute triumph. The flavors were entirely delicious, capturing the very best of Southern comfort. Between the breathtaking view, the flawless hospitality, and the exceptional food, this establishment is a true treasure. It deserves every bit of its five stars, and I shall most certainly be returning

The first time we dined here was in 2017, maybe, during which time the server slung our children's food across the table while setting it down-- french fries can roll off a plate with gusto! It was when the server placed the food back on the plate for the kids to eat as if we didn't all see what had just happened that put us off to coming back here. Fast forward to June 2026, it's a Saturday evening and the place my husband and I wanted to go was packed. We decided to give The Fat Pelican another try. When we walked in, there were only three tables occupied. As we stood there waiting for any signs of life from someone employed by this place, we could feel the stares from a particular table, as if trying to warn us to leave while we still could. But hindsight is always 20/20. A sweaty man emerged from the kitchen and told us we could have a seat wherever we liked. As we looked over the menu, I noted the shrimp plates all indicated (imported), which is pretty odd, being close enough to the gulf, and because our booth was right next to a poster celebrating some Louisiana Shrimp festival. I ordered unsweetened tea, which was more watery than tea, and patiently requested a soda instead, which he forgot about. One of the original 3 tables energetically waived sweaty man down, asking for their check so they could leave. Another quickly followed suit. The third table may have been playing mahjong-- they were clearly content in being out and visiting their friends. When it was our turn for what may have finally been the undivided attention of the server, we ordered. My husband ordered a steak. "We're out of steak"........ I ordered while he reconsidered the menu, really wanting to just abort the whole mission. There is a $1.50 up-charge for the loaded baked potato, which would have not been a big deal, but my husband's "loaded baked potato" was dry. We didn't bother to hunt the sweaty man down to ask for more butter, because we were both pretty frustrated. Because we were looking forward to a place that included dessert with their meal, we absolutely ordered the chocolate fudge cake. Look-- no shade on Duncan Hines or their brownies, but that is clearly what we each paid $8.99 for. You could literally taste the Duncan Hines, which was topped with ice cream and some confusing blue berries. It was a relief to pay out and leave, especially since the indie hits playlist had started its second loop. If you're still reading and wondering.. no one else came in to dine while we were there. There won't be a third time.
