I have been using Basin Marine for services for the past several years. I can say without a doubt that they are the best in Newport. There is cheaper work out there, however from experience, Basin get the work done right the first time meaning that they are ultimately a better deal. After having a survey on my boat done, it was determined that it had a bad motor mount. In checking this out, Basin was able to determine this was incorrect and make a simple adjustment to correct the situation. While doing the bottom paint, Derek, notice a few minor items which he took the time to explain and get resolved. They had ever opportunity to take advantage, but rather focused on the problems and saved lots of time, money and frustration. I have my boat back it at runs as good a new. They are very easy to deal and talk with. They do not pound you over the head with flippant comments nor do they talk down to you -- Very approachable -- very easy to deal with. I was hesitant about bringing in a small job as I had only used them in the past for larger projects, gel coat repair, prop tuning, bottom paint etc. When I showed up with a wooden table from my new 22 Duffy and showed them the scratches in the surface I was sure they were going to recommend sanding and recoating. Basin just detailed my boat. I asked Derek if Basin could make my 12 year old Bayliner look like new. I'm new to boating and I didn't know what to expect. I was hoping that they could at least get it to look as good as it did when I purchased it a year ago. When it was completed, I went to the slip to see how it would look. I was extremely pleased to find that the gelcoat on the hull looked like new! All the scratches, scuffs and oxidation were gone, replaced by a gleaming hull. Derek suggested removing the decals that were scratched. This turned out to be great suggestion. I no longer have to see the Bayliner name spelled "ayliner" due to a missing B. This is my second experience with Basin Marine and I would recommend them to anyone who wants the job done right. read more

Great experience at Basin Marine. Nicest people, clean yard and all the workers seemed very happy. Brought my boat in for bottom paint and to have my props tuned. The prep work for the bottom paint was way beyond what I expected. They stripped the water line all the way to the original gel coat, wet sanded the bottom and treated all the metal. Hauled the boat on a Monday morning and by the end of the first day they had all the prep work done and the props were sent out to Wilmington. By the end of the day Wednesday the boat was completed, the props were back on and everything was ready to go. Told Derek I would like to be able to settle up on the bill in the morning and be on our way by 10:00AM or so as I had to drive the boat home to Dana Point and some weather was coming in. When we arrived in the morning the boat was already in the sling and ready for a final inspection. Well before our 10:00AM targeted departure we were on our way home. Just a great experience, no nonsense and very efficient work. Just the way I like it and I'm sure the way you do too. Great job Derek, Dave, and the Basin team! read more
