Firearms counter horrible. Need to fire the manager back there and some employees. Went in today and standing at the counter waiting on a person to get their sale done. The older gentleman got done with him looked down the counter and I wave to get his attention. He then walks in the back and stays back there for a while. While the transfer fee is only $25 while other stores charge $50, for guns bought online and shipped to the store, the gun department is seriously under staffed. I had to wait about 3-hours to be next in line. I don't recommend the store in Leagie City, TX for this reason. I will pay the higher fee at Academy. read more

On 8/4/22 I ordered 5 boxes of Aguila Super Colibri Rimfire Ammo. I would have ordered more but Cabelas web site stated a limit of 5. I also ordered Hoppes BoreSnake Den Bore Cleaner so that I would get the free shipping. And hours later I was sent an E-mail that they cancelled my Ammo because it was out of stock. I went to their website to cancel the Hoppes BoreSnake Den Bore Cleaner and they told me that it already shipped and I could not cancel the order. I received a message later telling me that my Hoppes BoreSnake Den Bore Cleaner had shipped. I have not received the BoreSnake as of today and I went back to Cabelas and I checked the order and it stated that the Hoppes BoreSnake Den Bore Cleaner had just shipped and would not arrive until 4/15/22. Cabelas gun buying program is terrible. They inspect your gun looking for any flaws to give a reduced price. I brought in a 32/40 caliber John Wayne Commerative rifle. Worth $1800 in great condition. They said my rifle was dirty a little rust etc. I was expecting a lower price but the manager who they called at home and sent pics to him gave me the following offer. $250.00!!! He must be insane. That offer is nothing more than an insult. A pawn shop offered me $$1000 I also brought in a Colt Python. Worth $3000 This stay at home manager offered me $700 at first and When I said no he went up to $1000 Another insult. This is a sought after gun worth much more. I had the worst unsettling purchase experience while shopping at this Cabela's earlier in the week. I have to say I've been shopping at Cabelas stores for over nine years with firearms purchases. This single encounter has barred me from ever wanting to purchase a firearm with them again, especially this location. I went in to see about selling two of my firearms I no longer enjoyed, with the desire to purchase a new conceal carry pistol for warmer weather. The older gentleman they had upraising firearms was alarming. He had minimal to almost shockingly zero knowledge of firearms and safety procedures. It was shocking to see him take a magazine from my Sig P365 and try to feed it into a 9MM compact Sccy pistol. Then he tried to place the .380 Sig mag into the Sccy pistol. He failed to practice pistol safety in almost every single regard. Sweeping my wife and I multiple times during his handling on the firearms. He even went as far as to point and hold one of them up to his face. As someone who has sold firearms in the past, there are safer ways to inspect a firearms critical components without taking the whole thing and pointing it at yourself in a completely unsafe manner. How is it that every instructor course on the planet teaches to handle all firearms as if they are loaded yet when you do the "safety check" up front it gives you the ability to compel yet negate these rules? Hell, they make you sign a form stating you understand such laws and regulations that can criminally charge you for negligence. It's just unreal to me that a person with such poor training would be sent to work with firearms. It's inexcusable and sends the wrong message across the board. After watching this poor firearm safety etiquette performance the real show began. Somehow I was charged for a firearm I was intending to sell... and this whole process of transferring from me to their store looked done incompletely. This old man was fumbling the entire process, stating he was hopeful to get it done right. This had me worried as he was proceeding with the transaction. Back to cashing me out, he wanted me to sign a receipt stating I was cleared and had been paid out. Absolutely not at all what had happened. He left the transaction open when I refused to sign pointing out the mistake he made by charging instead of selling. Need that proof with the proper paperwork before I'm walking out the door. A manager had to come, she too was surprised by his error in taking a simple process and screwing it up so badly. She even told him that after refunding me for being charged for a gun I SOLD them, I needed to be paid for it. The old man continued to banter on, LEAVING THE TRANSACTION ON HIS SCREEN OPEN AND INCOMPLETE. He then wanted me to sign another receipt after saying that he was going to keep the copy for their records, not giving me anything but another generic print out that still reflected his error. Anywho, my wife and I ended up walking back up front to speak to the same manager who helped us. All because this old man wouldn't give the cash for the sale. His confusion had that much of a hold on him. At the customer service counter the employees there once they heard the name of the fella, they started making jokes because this apparently happens ALL THE TIME with him. It took the manager close to twenty minutes to get me cashed out for my pistol I sold and ensure the sale was closed and handled properly. The old man may have been kind enough and apologetic but he clearly doesn't need to be around firearms without proper training and knowledge. Just because you can shoot a gun doesn't at all make you eligible to sell and buy them for a large retail store. He clearly needs to be moved into a different department and stay far away from the gun counter or firearms library. This experience and how it was handled completely ruined my faith and trust in the Cabelas brand. I get it's hard to find people these days who want to work, but it's no excuse to take shortcuts in a department like firearms. Every employee selling and buying should be able to UNDERSTAND and COMPLETE the entire legal transfer and background check process without a hitch. End of story. Steer very clear of this store to avoid a similar experience. Last note is that this process that should have taken maybe 30 minutes maximum ended up taking well over two hours from start to finish. read more

Personally, I have little to no interest in outdoor recreational activities. I've been to Cabelas twice just to look around for reference. On my third visit, I decided to try the food since I was craving some game meat. I had read in an article they served bison meat, so that's what I sought out. For sandwiches, you can choose white or wheat bread. Customize your sandwich by choosing a meat; they have regular stuff like ham and turkey or for something different, they have several game meats. There are a few types of cheeses and several vegetable options. I ordered a smoked bison sandwich, fully loaded on wheat bread for $10 (maybe 1 or 2 dollars more, don't exactly remember). They make a pretty dang good sandwich. The meat is so flavorful and the ingredients are fresh. I'll be coming back to try the elk and boar. Afterwards, I checked their website for the whole menu, but it seems this location doesn't serve everything on the site. read more

I purchased a meat slicer at this location in 2018. It rarely got used but recently I cured some bresaola and needed to use it. I was slicing the meat and the black handle used to push the meat back and forth broke. I called corporate customer service and they referred me to another phone number (440-638-3131) which turned out to be a non-working number. I did a google search and found an alternate number for the company (800-814-4895). I called that number and got a recording telling me that any *purchases* must be done via website and then the call was ended. Since I originally bought the slicer at the Gulf freeway location, I decided to call them. No answer when I selected orders/customer service. With this sort of experience I would not recommend buying things from Cabela's that would ever need follow-up or customer service. Very disappointing experience. read more

I'm so glad we now have a Cabela's here in League City! Awesome sporting goods store, don't get me wrong I still love Academy too! But I think Cabela's brings a little bit more to the table when it comes to hunting, fishing, and outdoors. I like their gun, and shooting supplies department best! Lots to choose from even in used firearms. They have not only guns but scopes, ammo, reloading supplies, shooting equipment, knives, sharpening supplies, and gun safes. Very good Selection of fishing tackle, rods, and reels. They also have meat processing equipment which I really like as I'm into processing my own game. They have you covered here, from meat grinders, meat mixers, sausage stuffers, slicers, and smokers. Very nice selection of outdoor clothing for men, women, and children. They even have a few toys for children! I have found the people here to be very qualified in the departments that they work in and very nice and out going! My grandson likes to come here to see the animals they have mounted and standing around an outdoor scene with a big aquarium with bass, catfish, and other species. It is what I'd call a man's toy store! Although you can get items for the home here like bed spread and sheet sets in camo, lamps, and other home decor up to personal weather stations! Finally!! The Houston Metro area has a Cabela's. I had the privilege of attending the Friends & Family event tonight for the grand opening. This is the first time I have ever been inside a Cabela's retail location. Previously, I have only ordered from them via online. Before I write my review, let's talk about logistics. The store is located directly in front of Big League Dreams in League City. If you are traveling south on the Gulf Freeway, take the FM 646 exit (exit 20). Cabala's will be on the right. If you are coming up from Galveston, take the League City Parkway exit (exit 22) and make a U-turn and head back south down the frontage road. Here are a few tips when you decide to come to this specific Cabela's. 1. The Bargain Cave is in the far back left corner of the store. Basically, it is an entire room of discounts and clearance items. It also includes items that are scratch and dent or have been returned in virtually new condition. The Bargain Cave is definitely a great place to find great deals. For instance, tonight they had some "damaged" Yeti Coolers that were discounted. The damage consisted of some superficial scratches that would keep it from being sold as perfectly new. There were no more scratches than what you would normally get from using it once but it was a substantial discount because of this scratch(es). I found a laser bore sight for 50% off. Rods/Reals at substantial discounts. Several pairs of binoculars that were discounted. Etc Etc. All I can say is if you visit this store, you need to stop in the Bargain Cave. 2. They have an ample selection of men's hunting boots and a very limited selection of women's hunting boots. 3. They have a wide range of archery equipment. They do have mid-range bows (Bear Archery) and a multitude of sights, targets, decoys (various animals) etc. 4. Their weapon section is excellent. They have a Gun Library with several collectables. Tonight, I saw several Colt handguns that would be considered collectibles. However, due to the crowds at the gun counter and the fact I wasn't purchasing a rifle, shotgun, or handgun, I avoided the counter. I did notice that they have scope mounting and bore sighting available. I believe these services are free if you purchase the sight from them. When I asked how much bore sighting was, the employee didn't know for sure. Honestly, they were buried tonight and I didn't have him go look it up for me. This was their first night open and they are still not open to the general public so I don't expect them to be perfect and have every answer. They also have a wide range of Liberty Gun Safes in various price ranges. 5. They also have a pretty good camping section. William was working the camping section and was very knowledgable about the camping gear they had available. I went through every section of the store at least briefly. Really large selection on the outdoors sections (fishing, hunting, camping) as well as the weapons (guns & archery & storage/gun safes). They have used guns in the "Gun Library" and a bargain /discounted area in the back on the other side from the Gun Library. The place was kept relatively neat despite the crowd there this weekend. I'll definitely be checking this place out for outdoor gear when I need it. I also saw a sign that said they will have eventually some sort of sports/game complex right next to it. There were nets in the back of the store (outside behind the store) but I did not go back there. However it looks like a driving range for golf from the highway. read more

Management is a complete joke. You will get fired, if you aren't the store's favorite, you do get a lot of Cabelas's club cards or if you sneeze the wrong way. The push Cabelas club Card on their employees more then the employees do on the customers, all because the GM gets a cut for every card they get signed up and any events lets say (March Madness) the GM gets a large paycheck whenever they win a event. Even after he lied to the whole store and said no such thing. Management lies to their customers when they have a complaint, and lie to their employees. When hiring on they make you feel like one of their teams and like family. After a few months it will stop and you will see the darkness in the company. I was with the company almost 3 years, and quit after realizing it's not about the great out doors or helping customers, it was let's see what we can make a customer buy that they don't want nor need but hell sale it to him and you will feel happy you sold stuff but never get a well done. You never get a well done from management unless it's signing up someone for club....... The GM and some of the other manager are just complete money grabbing people, and that's why the store is going downhill with less employees and less customers now..... But also coming in a customer, bad customer service, and I was hoping they would have had new staff..... but not...... PS there is one guy in camping that always smell like strong alcohol....... and looks like he had a few drinks..... but they won't fire him or anything because why??? He is the stores 2nd top man in getting people signed up for Club Cards!!!! Complete joke!!! BassPro is Pearland is the best place to go.... and Cabelas fans they sale everything by Cabelas's brand to everything and their customer service is amazing!! I love going to Cabela's even just to browse. Their Gun Library always has some uncommon firearms that are enjoyable to look at and hold. The employees there are very knowledgeable about the different firearms and if they are not sure, they find out. My wife was looking to get a new holster and we wanted to make sure her pistol would fit and hold properly. The person we met with helped us pick up and even try them out. Luckily they had the same pistol in stock. In the end we walked out with a great holster and some new clothes she just couldn't pass up in the clearance rack. read more

Charlie at Cabela's is the greatest ever! My husband ordered a replacement part for his protein feeder a MONTH ago directly from the manufacturer. Last week they said they were shipping it and it would be here by Friday. He called today and they still haven't even shipped it! He's leaving for the cabin tomorrow AM. We went to Cabela's hoping they would have one and of course they sold the last one they had yesterday. Charlie called a couple places around and found us one. Not sure what is up with the poor customer service at the League City Cabela's, but I have only been twice and both times it was near impossible to get help with an item, yet there are always a dozen or so employees standing around. Today I walked in looking for an expensive electronic dog collar. I very nicely approached 2 different employees in the surrounding sections and was confused with both of their reactions. It was like I was going out of my way to completely inconvenience their day. I was told by the first guy he would call someone over and he promptly went back to arranging boxes. After waiting for around 10 minutes by the dog collars and seeing employee after employee walk by me and not stop or even ask if I need help, I finally approached another employee who proceeded to complain to me' "that there were other people in the gun section needing help, and someone else wanted something else in some other section, and so I was third in line" and he walked off. Wow. I've worked in customer service and that was totally inappropriate to me. All it would have taken was 30 seconds to help me with my question and help locate the item. I waited for another 10 minutes and nothing. Finally, I walked out and passed by at least 6 employees standing around by the front, and again, no one said anything to me. Both times I have visited the League City Cabela's, I went in with the intention of spending several hundred dollars, yet both times I walked out empty handed due to extremely poor customer service. I will add that I did call beforehand and talk to a very nice woman on the phone before I went out of my way to visit this location, and she was the only person who seemed to genuinely enjoy her job. By far the coolest place to walk-in ! Walking in is like walking into a hunters lodge. You walk into recliners, a nice looking fire place with animals mounted on the walls, and into this huge sportsman paradise of a store. It has everything a hunting a fishing enthusiast could possibly dream of. Every section of the store is greeted with very well knowledgeable people who know their section. The store believe it or not is also setup to buy guns from customers looking to sell or even get their guns appraised. When I say anything outdoor this is the place. The store is brand new and believe it or not, not everything is crazily priced for huge outdoor chain like everyone thinks. The store is very clean, well kept, staff is well knowledgeable, and I will say I'm definitely gonna be shopping some more here lol. read more
