God we are lucky here in Dixon. We have an Ace Hardware. Gives us that small town feeling........personal service.....people who actually take the TIME to show you EXACTLY what you are looking for or will HELP you find it even if you (like me) are completely out of your element! At the big box hardware stores.....I'm like a deer caught in the headlights!! But at Ace....I can always find someone to help me.......and they do it without making me feel like an idiot! I drive out of my way to buy from stores like this to support local business instead of big box. I walked in this afternoon and there were six guys standing near the rear of the store idle. Six. I needed a rather odd piece of hardware so figured it would save time to have one of them show me where it is. I walked up to them and said "Hey, how y'all doing?" as a greeting. All six of them ignored me. Not one word. Nothing. I chuckled at the absurdity of it and went about on my own to find what I was looking for. Totally bizarre. Totally unnecessary. Totally rude. The poor apron wearing slaves at Home Depot give you better service and they don't get to stand around doing nothing. If I could find a locally owned alternative to big box for my hardware needs, I'd go in a heartbeat, even drive extra miles to do so. Bassil's ain't it. read more

Coming from Houston, being on motorcycles....you never know!!! We had troubles on the road and looked up a shop that was close. We found this place and we are sooo glad we did! From anything you need, to the best service ever!!! Soo thankful for the family that helped us out today! We came 5 minutes before close and they stayed 30 minutes afterwards to just help us out! No attitude, no questions, nothing but love and help! Changed out screws and bolts and everything without any hassle! They had a wonderful display, all the corresponding accessories and were quite helpful. Because of their wide variety of items, I was able to get some other items too. Score! Even among the Ace Hardware franchise, Bassil's has been exceptional. I received a grill as a gift, but have had to replace it twice because of breakage. Bassil's, and especially Fred Ritter, worked patiently with me and the manufacturer to make things right. Communication over warranties, setting up pickup, assembly have been beyond expectations. Had a very good experience with ACE this afternoon. I just needed 2 keys made. Called ahead and asked if they made keys. Nice fella was helpful on the phone. I walked in and was immediately greeted and pointed in the right direction to the back of the store where the key machine was. It took this guy no time to help me and then I was on my way.
