The contrast between the consistently exceptional service at my vet including yesterday in my…read morecurrent area and my horrific experiences at Newburyport Animal Hospital years ago has promoted to speak out about the PTSD at the latter. I only am writing this review so many years later because the website shows that Dr. Grillo still owns and operates the place. There is nothing to indicate that things have changed. My first experiences at Newbury were awesome on every level. I attribute the change to the large expansion a few years later. My perspective ties to my partner and I regularly joking about one of the "Facts of Life" stars calling a co-star a "greedy b----" when the covert effort of the latter to make a side deal tanked a reboot that otherwise would have been a sure thing. I had been happy with the care that I had been receiving and thought that Dr. Grillo and I had been on friendly terms. I noted that he both went to the home of my friends to put down their greyhound when the time had come and did not charge them. The story with my cat, who had been a patient for years, began with Grillo initially strongly believing that he was not ill and only discovering the kidney disease when I politely kept pushing the issue. Grillo did apologize. The regular expensive treatment continued for months. Grillo knew that my cat was like my child when he made me bring him in when the time came. He also was not very compassionate and charged me. The next incident came a few years later. A previously awesome cat sitter had traumatized my cats (including bringing a black lab contrary to my request to not do so and a completely unknown infant) into my house while sitting for 10 days. One of my two cats increasingly became aggressive despite my continuing to be as loving to him as I always had been. He eventually became feral, and I only got him out of my house by finding a wildlife expert willing to there and capture him. He refused the money that I repeatedly offered him. I had the expert bring my cat to Newbury as the next step. Grillo told me that the cat was well-behaved there and totally discounted my experience as well as my trauma regarding the whole manner. He was very judgmental regarding my refusal to both risk bringing that greatly loved cat back in my house and facing having to again find someone to capture him if he went nuts again as I was certain that he would. Despite Grillo knowing for years that I was a loving pawrent who had spent thousands during the extended illness of my first cat, he strongly implied that I had been abusing the cat that I literally was in tears over losing. The local animal rescue league absolutely refusing to take the cat resulted in my having to abandon him. Grillo pulled a full Blair by charging me for the couple of days that my cat had stayed with him. I had been a profitable client for years, and I doubt that keeping the cat cost Grillo more than a little food. I may even have sent some food with him. I considered refusing to pay and just walk away but wanted my other cat to continue being a client because the underlying care had been good. All of this concluded with a horrible experience when I was moving 90 minutes away. I boarded my cat with Newbury a few days before my move. My partner was going to pick him up on the day of the move to drive him to our new home. I paid for the stay when I dropped off my cat. I made it clear that I was doing so so that my partner would not need to pay when he came for the cat. I further paid what I thought was an unduly high amount to sedate my cat the morning of the move both to reduce the stress in him and so my partner would not have to deal with constant caterwauling on the drive to the new house. My partner called me from his cell while I was in the middle of the two teams of movers incessantly asking me where stuff went despite it being clear. (I found a box of shirts clearly labelled "bedroom" in my basement closet several months after the move.) My partner told me that Newbury receptionist kept demanding the boarding fee thst I already had paid. She acknowledged thst I had paid the fee after 15 minutes of arguing. My partner also told me that Newbury had forgotten to sedate the cat and only did so when my partner arrived. That was too late and my cat was too worked up about being put in the carrier and driven (not to mention moving to a new house) to do any good. Getting Grillo to subsequently discuss this was like pulling teeth. He shrugged off the demand for the boarding fee and asserted that I had received the sedation for which I had paid. He refused my request for a refund for the sedation even when I noted that it was worthless and would have been a nice gesture regarding the demand for the boarding fee. I will be moving back to the area but will not returning to Newbury. I am sure that they would not want me back after this. It is a clear case of taking the bad.

Although we have been lifelong cat owners, we have never dealt with such a daunting health issue. As soon as we met with Dr. Grillo and his staff, we knew we were in the very best care. They helped us every single step of the way, including medical boarding over the holidays, where our cat was treated like family. They are transparent about the costs of services and communicate all aspects of a care plan. The office has a positive and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff is always genuinely excited to see us and our cat. The staff is also incredibly helpful in answering questions over the phone. I am forever grateful for Newbury Animal Hospital's kindness, compassion, and expertise. We are so lucky to be in their care!

Short Version: If you have a French Bulldog, pug or any breed that has known health problems I…read morewould steer clear of this practice. They misdiagnosed my Frenchies eye issue, made it worse with initial the treatment, corrected the treatment, and still he almost lost his eye because of the initial misdiagnosis and lack of recommendation from them to see a specialist. Long Version: We brought our dog here for years, staff has always been amazing, nice and developed a great relationship with most of the staff. We initially brought our frenchie for an eye issue. It was puffy, he kept kind of closing it, squinting. He originally saw Dr. Burba who said he had conjunctivitis,, no uclers and said to treat him with a steroid ointment for 10 days twice a day. We treated him with the ointment, but luckily would forget to do it started to look better than when we used to ointment, but after a few weeks it seemed to get worse. We then went in for a recheck because it wasn't getting better, told them it seemed to get worse with the ointment. Dr. Kim Petty re-examed his eye and said to restart treatment with the steroid cream and make sure to do the full 10 days (Despite us saying we thought it was making it worse). So I did just that, 2 times a day like clockwork, and halfway through he developed a hole in his eye, which turned out to be a corneal ulcer. We then saw Dr. Pope for the Corneal Ulcer who completely changed his treatment and said steroid ointment will make ulcers worse. Which in this case appeared to be what happened in our opinion. Dr. Pope then begin to treat the ulcer, saw us very frequently, I really hate writing this negative review because Dr. Pope honestly was amazing, I could tell she really cared about him and wanted to help fix the issue with his eye. It was improving from what she told me and after multiple re-checks she said he was good to go back to normal life, no drops, keep an eye on it. Fast forward I want to say 1-1.5months he still had a noticeable hole there but we assumed it was healing. He then one night lightly swiped at his eye and boom. Liquid shot out of it, I rushed him to an emergency vet who then referred us to Tufts who had an Opthalmology team. To wrap this up, he had a corneal perforating leaking ulcer, the team at tufts said they would NEVER give a Frenchie or similar breed a steroid ointment for their eyes under any circumstance because they are prone to these problems which steroids either cause or make 100x worse. With all this said, Dr. Pope was amazing but I really am disappointed in this clinic because of the initial recommendation from both Dr. Burba and Dr. Kim Petty to use steroid ointment for 10 days which directly caused him to develop a Corneal Ulcer. Then, with such a bad Corneal ulcer I don't understand why the team didn't recommend we go straight to a specialist and have them look at his eye. I blame myself a lot for not logically thinking we should do that myself but I trusted the team here and did everything they said. Drops 6x a day, cone for almost 8 weeks...etc. After the rupture, the tufts team was able to save his eye with a graft surgery but this could have easily been avoided had he 1 not been treated with steroids and 2 been recommended to see a specialist once he developed the corneal ulcer instead of only treating it with drops. Graft surgery might have been avoided and they could have done a different procedure. I called the clinic to express my concerns (I'm a pretty calm person so I wasn't being crazy like someone normally would) but I wanted them to know this should have been avoided and they basically are the majority at fault for my Frenchie almost losing his eye. After stating everything above, I was told Dr. Pope would call to follow up. Didn't get a call, and in my patient history I requested because logically we're leaving the clinic after this they said: "called upset that ulcer ruptured when we were closed and had to seek care elsewhere". That's absolutely not what I said or was upset about, I was upset that he was misdiagnosed, and not recommended to see an eye specialist after they caused his corneal ulcer from the steroid ointment. I would never be upset for a practice being closed after hours and quite the opposite I am patently thankful they were closed otherwise they would have been the ones treating him. We learned a hard lesson with our little guy that if you have a major issue with your dog take them to the best, Tufts in Grafton. I cannot recommend it enough they were truly outstanding and although this was a horrible experience I'm grateful to have found that practice for major issues/emergencies. Overall, I'm sad to have to write this because I loved everyone at this practice, but I can only be so nice and it's too bad they didn't care enough to check on our Frenchie, see what our concerns were and explain to us why they would have used the steroid ointment initially/not recommended us to a specialist. From the start, Dr. Tumkur's compassion, knowledge, and clear communication gave us complete confidence in his care. Over the years, he helped our dogs through everything from chronic ear infections to cancer and other serious health conditions, always showing genuine concern and taking time to explain every detail. Almost 20 years later, we are back with our three year old Labrador retriever, and the care is just as outstanding as it has always been. After spending over a year and thousands of dollars at another veterinary clinic trying unsuccessfully to resolve a recurring ear infection, we learned that the Animal Health Center was never closing, as we had mistakenly been told. We called Dr. Tumkur again, and we are so grateful we did. He quickly diagnosed and resolved the problem that the other vet could not. The care, expertise, and personal attention at this practice are second to none. It feels great to be back with a veterinarian we can truly trust. Highly recommended to anyone who wants honest, compassionate, and skilled care for their pets.

I was told by Dr. T.K. that my Tom (cat) needed 20 teeth extracted. Dr. T.K. said that why he was not eating, because it was to painful to eat. Dr. D.K. hd given my cat blood work before the surgery, my cats Creatine level was on the high side and he had anemia, but was strong enough to get the 20 teeth extracted. Well my cats creatine level excalated, his mouth didn't stop bleeding, he went into End Stage Renial failure. After 3 days I brought Tom back to T.K. my cat Tom could not walk on his back legs. Dr.T.K. took his creatine level and verified that Tom was at end stage Renial failure that I had to euthanize him. Here is my cat in front of me lying there helpless as I was, blood all over his mouth they never bothered to clean his mouth, and got the that he was gone with blood still around his mouth. This is the vision I'm left with my cat helpless on the vet bed with blood around his mouth. It's been a month since my Tommy passed, I cry every day especially how it all went down. Dr. T. K. gave me BAD professional advice that shortened my cats life. Sadly I feel it was money motivated, 3,100.00 later. Cammy Parrino The ,

More results are pending and I hope I get informed and reached out to. I do not like having to leave this review up with one star, as the people at this place seem very kind. But there is a disconnect between relaying information to me, especially when told I would be notified. Waiting and waiting multiple times for no call back, no email, no nothing is a horrible and dark place to live in your own mind. Then watching your cat repeatedly vomit then look up at you with big gold eyes makes you feel like An Absolute Failure. Reaching out with any information about delays, waiting a few more days, any news would certainly go a long way. ***End of Update*** You Won't Get Answers Here. Brought my 6 year old cat here through a recommendation as he was diagnosed with a heart murmur and a history of vomiting and prior vet did not seem concerned as his weight was relatively stable. Vet said he was slightly overweight by 2lbs. The vet here, Dr. Kara Radzinski did seem concerned about the frequent vomiting, and ordered a blood test, ekg, and ultrasound with a GI panel if necessary. The blood test was done first as the results would be soon. Waited to hear back. No answer. Waited another day. No answer. Had to request the blood test myself by calling the office. Got the results and tried to read them myself. No word from MVAH until later where I received an email from the vet apologizing saying their lab delayed posting the results to her. Ok. Understandable. Did the ultrasound a couple weeks later. Was told I would receive results in a few days. Waited. And waited. Finally a week later requested the ultrasound through their portal Otto. Got it right away. WTH? I've been so nervous waiting patiently for any word, and the ONLY emails I received were from MVAH telling me to purchase their merchandise, 'Email exclusive | 48-HOUR SALE!' and 'Last chance to receive your sitewide code!'. No call to help explain what I'm looking at. The only time I received a call was to pick up my cat after his ultrasound, and they recommended I add the GI panel ($580) and fecal testing ($113.68) as well. I did. Because I'm scared and want my cat to be well. I then requested thru MVAH portal Otto for the GI panel. No word. Not surprised. Called the office directly and asked for test results. Was told they weren't ready. I asked to not fall through the cracks and get some help as I'm over a couple thousand dollars in at this point and would like some help. Front Desk was very nice, but still no call from the Vet. Haven't turned in his stool sample as my faith in this place is gone. Thankfully I never ordered the EKG here, I wouldn't know how to read that even with help from Google. Everytime my cat vomits I get upset at MVAH all over again. They got their money. I have test results I have to ask for, then google to understand. DO NOT COME HERE. You are your pets safety net, they depend on you as their voice. You won't get answers here. You are just a Big Dumb Piggy Bank at the MVAH. Oh, they didn't even call me the day before his ultrasound. I finally called at 4pm the day before his procedure to answer questions I had. The picture is of his bloody nipples. He was returned to me like this. No mention they nicked two of his nipples and he was bleeding. They were bloody, then pus-y, then finally scabbed over. I made sure to keep my eye on them and cleaned them with hypochlorous acid (which is what Vetericyn Plus is). tl:dr Run from this place while you can.
