The worst company I ever worked with - old equipment- would not update -- do not sign any contracts

I am a loyal customer with Bates Security primarily because Joseph Johnathan Negron. Mr. Negron is the BEST security service technician at the company. He is very thorough, knowledgeable, and respectful. There are many security companies in this area, well in the U.S. However, I will be a loyal customer as long as Bates is loyal to me and continue with the professional relationship with Mr. Negron. The company should promote or elevate Mr. Negron to a senior level position; he deserves higher visibility. However, should Mr. Negron leave the company, I would seriously need to reconsider my relationship with Bates Security. In the interim, I highly recommend Bates Security...Ms. C read more

First off, I didn't sign up for Bates. I originally signed up with Kentucky Alarm Services, which as stated in my review that I left on their page before Bates took it over and changed the name to their own. https://www.yelp.com/biz/kentucky-alarm-services-lexington-2 I spent almost $2000 on security cameras that I was told were warrantied and were, for as long as Kentucky Alarm Services existed. Slightly unbeknownst to me, KAS sold out to Bates. Low and behold when the cameras faulted one by one, we were billed each time that they came out to repair them. Each time, my husband called to argue the warranty, each time a collection notice would follow. We finally gave up and brought new cameras elsewhere. This summer, months ago... my alarm sensors stopped working. At least twice, my daughter came home and without disarming, she was able to make it upstairs, to bed without ever tripping the alarm. For the last few months practically the only thing we've been using the Bates Services for, was for my husband to enter the garage... that was an app feature, to open and close the garage from the app. Finally months later, I decided to disconnect service altogether. My husband called and was told that we needed to give a months notice, by sending a simple email. That I did. Days later, again, unbeknownst to us, they disconnected service... while my husband was at work. So, when he got home, he discovered this and had to wait on me to arrive home before he could entered... should've hung on to his garage door opener. The next day, I was surprised to find a mailed notice explaining that we were still responsible for the upcoming month's bill... which we were already aware of. What I am appalled about is that they want you to pay for that last month, but disconnect and ban you from service during that time frame. So, we hadn't yet connected our replacement alarm service. I've never heard of any company or contract that requires you to pay something without providing service. I will mention, that after my husband made a few calls, they credited back that last months service that they disconnected anyways, so I'll give them a second star. Beware. read more

I did the paperwork with the sales agent Jerry during the evaluation and he said he would hold on to it till I decided but I wasn't interested and needed to speak to my wife for clarification it got kind of pushy and I didn't want to say it but I said we would discuss it. I said I can't give you any payment information and he said it's ok if you decide then call me i felt uncomfortable even signing stuff when he left so I called back and said we weren't interested again he said well I'll hold on to your paperwork and let me know when you are. Too pushy for me. Not sure I even want home security now. read more

Beware of contract. They claim its like a cell phone but charge you for the hardware (which you don't own) and then lock you into a 4-year contract with auto renewals. Lots of hidden fees and they charge to service the system. Pay more for a national company and avoid getting nickel & dimes with long-term deceptive contracts. They'll show you all the happy emails to convince you they are a hometown locally proud company. Don't buy into they hype. read more

I read previous reviews and contacted Bates based on their high scores. However, my experience was less than stellar. The price quoted was excellent and I believe their products are good as well, but the interaction I had turned me off. Over the course of two weeks, I was contacted repeatedly, which I found intrusive. I was referred to an electrician and was in the process of contacting them, but the Bates salesperson has already done that and then showed up when the electrician was here. While they may be good, my experience was most unpleasant particularly when it came to actually signing the agreement. I will look elsewhere. read more

"Credit" This place is fantastic. I know, right!? Who writes a review about an alarm company! Well here's the story, our house was broken into a few days ago so having small children and a wife who is overly dramatic it was of utmost importance to get things "secure" as fast as possible. I looked on the internet and after a few calls had narrowed it down to two companies. The other company couldn't get out there to install for a few days but when the "salesman" came out to "sell" me on the "slick" alarm I was turned off by the price, gimmicks and overall confusion that ensued. At KY Alarm I talked with Andrew the owner's son. He was "less than" polished as a salesman but I felt a real sincerity about the information and effort he was willing to produce for me. He was going to come out himself with his installer after there already full schedule of work! He showed up at 6:15 and left at 9:15 - The attitude of both Him and Jerry was amazing! I knew after 10 minutes I had definitely made the right choice! The equipment is better, not fancy BS, and it even works with my iPhone! This place is a real class act! I found out the hard way. They told me it was a 2 year contract and I find out it was a 4 year contract after the first 2 year contract was completed. Same old equipment. I agree should have went with a national company. Not to mention the contract price went up on me after the first year. it is going to be a long 3 more years. Buyer beware!!!!!! read more

I have used Bates Security several times now and I have always been satisfied with them. I have moved a few too many times over the last 20 years but in each home I have had their service. I have always been impressed with their professionalism. Their knowledge in designing a system that works for me is good and the installation of the actual system is done by a seemingly well trained and professional technician. Their inside staff has always taken care of any of my needs when I call in. Bottom line I am happy with the services I have received and I have recommend them to many people. I trust them implicitly. They provide services for my home and business and are the best that I have ever used. Reliable service and exemplary customer support whenever necessary, which is almost never. The pricing is competitive, even with the national chains but the service is far superior to what the others' offer. I have been VERY pleased to deal with this family owned and run business. I have Bates Security system installed in January of this year (2015). And we feel a lot better knowing we are protected by the police and fire service. It gives us peace of mind now that we did not have before when we are at home or away! It's so easy to operate, you can install an app on your cell phone and set your security system after you leave home and just before you arrive back home!
