And, there was no sale! I like supporting local game stores, but charging above MSRP is a non-starter for me. No way I'll ever set foot in their stores again.

My boyfriend has been a regular at the store for years, and I went with him to pick up his pull list this past weekend. There were people chatting at the counter when we came in, so Carla didn't see that I was with anyone when I entered the store. She was sure to ask me if I needed help with anything, which is a first in the slew of comic and game shops I've been to recently. The shop is set up with different rooms devoted to your interest, with comics in one wing and games in another, and more general books and collectibles merchandise in the main room where you enter. If you head to the back, you'll find space for game playing and where Don is organizing his back stock of comics. The shop on the whole is bright and colorful, and I felt totally welcome to browse. Don and Carla had a nice word for everyone who came in the store, and it was pretty clear that they have a small army of loyal customers. The outside of the store isn't much to look at - it's situated in an industrial-looking strip mall - but don't let that deter you from the checking out their cozy shop. Even if you're not a full-on geek, there are still things for you here - several of their games are great for a game night with friends.

We weren't certain if they'd have it since the game was only released that day. They did! We were so impressed, we stopped by later with our son and checked the store out. Their inventory was quite impressive. They had games of all types as well as other items like dice, card protectors, and puzzles. They also had an impressive selection of games to rent--we're not sure what game to rent first! Also, their collection of used games is diverse and well-priced. Finally, their gaming area is attractive. It's well-lit with comfortable seating. Each time we came in, we were greeted by a friendly staff. In fact, when I was pondering a game they had open and on display, an employee came over to explain the game to me. Very helpful. We'll definitely be spending more time (and money) at the Sanctum. What a great place!! (Update, Six months later: As we expected, six Sanctum has successfully prompted us to spend more money on games and game-adjacent items. The owners are wonderful--we've taken several of their recommendations and no regrets. The space has matured and morphed, and we love the changes. We've rented games, tried a game night, joined their frequent buyers program, bought and sold used games, and purchased numerous gifts for gamers and non-gamers. Games Universe in Mequon: Sellers Beware!…read more I went into Games Universe in Mequon to sell more than 1,000 Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering cards. I was told the cards would be scanned individually and priced at 50% of TCGplayer. That sounded reasonable. Before going in, I personally scanned every card using CollX to get an idea of the collection's market value. CollX estimated the collection at more than $500, so based on Games Universe's stated 50% buying rate, I expected an offer somewhere around $240-$250. After approximately 24 hours, they called and offered me $64. That works out to roughly 6 cents per card. These were not worthless cards. The collection consisted primarily of vintage commons and mostly unplayed cards that had been in my possession for more than 20 years. There were dozens of cards in the $1-$3 range and nine copies of Seething Song that they themselves valued at approximately $11 each, and a Pokémon Blaziken V that I had valued at around $28. When I went into the store to discuss the offer, Conor explained their system in a condescending manner. I started by asking about the nine Seething Songs. He confirmed they valued them at $11 each--$99 worth of cards. At 50%, those nine cards alone should have represented roughly a $50 offer. According to their $64 total offer, that would leave only $14 for the other 1,063 cards. That was when I knew something was seriously wrong and the experience felt extraordinarily deceptive and predatory. If a store tells customers their cards will be individually evaluated and purchased at 50% of market value, an offer that amounts to roughly 6 cents per card raises serious questions. I have been buying, selling and playing Magic for approximately 30 years. I explained that I was the sole owner of these cards and that they had been in my possession for more than two decades. Conor's response was that none of that mattered to him and that he didn't need to "hear my credentials." It didn't need to become confrontational. It could have simply been a conversation about the cards and the offer. Instead, Conor's increasingly aggressive and condescending tone became particularly troubling as it became clear that I was not going to accept what I felt was an attempt to take advantage of the uneven leverage they apparently believed they had over me. Once I decided to take my cards back, and therefore take the potential profit from those cards away from the store, the entire transaction went sour and the interaction became increasingly unprofessional. Conor became agitated and verbally aggressive, making comments I won't repeat here. I took my cards and left. When I got home, I scanned the collection myself using the TCGplayer app. The results were eye-opening: 1,011 Magic cards: $401.26 61 Pokémon cards: $49.83 Total TCGplayer value: $451.09 Games Universe offered me $64. By their own stated 50% buying guidelines, that collection should have generated an offer of approximately $225.54. Instead, they offered me $64--roughly 28% of what their own buying policy would suggest and only 14% of the total TCGplayer value. The numbers don't lie. I walked in expecting a legitimate card-selling experience based on the terms they gave me. I walked out with my cards because I no longer trusted the process. Maybe there is an explanation for their $64 valuation. If so, it should have been transparent and obvious from the beginning. What I experienced was a massive disconnect between the buying process they described and the offer they actually made. If you are considering selling cards at Games Universe, do your homework first. Know your cards' value, get multiple offers, and don't blindly trust a stated percentage of market value. I will never step foot in that store again. I gave Games Universe an opportunity to conduct an honest and professional transaction, and in my experience, they destroyed whatever trust could have existed. For me, that's the end of the story and the end of my business with Games Universe.

The comics I bought were in mint condition and some of them were total steals! I was shocked to get a comic worth almost $50 for just $15. This was the most organised comic book store I've ever been to and I really appreciated the cozy atmosphere. I also loved that they had a nice comfy couch for my parents to relax on while I was getting my comics. Would totally recommend this spot if you're hunting for specific comics!!

Going to Collector's Edge makes me miss my old favorite comic shop in Seattle. It just looks,…read morefeels, and even smells like a great comic shop. I went in twice while visiting family in Milwaukee, and both times walked out of Collector's Edge with unexpected surprises and long sought-after additions to my collection. I was especially happy that, while they certainly carry plenty of the standard superhero comics from Marvel and DC, there's also an excellent selection of the independent titles I tend to prefer. And perhaps my favorite thing - to find the good stuff, you should be willing to hunt a bit. While I'm sure the staff would be only too happy to help point you in the direction of something you're looking for, if you have the time to explore for yourself Collector's Edge will reveal its many treasures to you. So while Zanadu, my old favorite place to shop for comics in Seattle, closed its doors years ago, it's good to know that good old-fashioned comic shops like Collector's Edge keep their tradition going.

The service was excellent despite being a busy with one person handling the guest check-ins, order taking, order delivery, and checking guests out. There is currently a $7 cover charge, which I will assume covers the use of the 950+ games, and is a bargain. You are allowed to bring in your own games, but I assume you can't bring in your own food or drink, but I didn't ask because why would I? We want to support a small business, so buying drinks and food is the least I can do, since they let us have access to all of their games. Overall, we had a great experience, and we will be back! Some new guy was working there that I didn't recognize. I like him a lot better. We talked about a lot of game related things that I don't want to bore you with here and go super-nerd on you. Just wanted to post an update, because that one guy's attitude shouldn't reflect on the store, but it kinda does. When you work there, you represent it. If that one guy still works there, I hope he has a better day and better interactions with customers. Especially someone like me who doesn't take up a lot of their time or space, just comes in spends a lot and leaves. Probably the best kind of customer you'd want.
