Walk a few blocks away from Church St, but avoid the everyday call of Wall St. and you'll come across a lesser known area (at least to me) of Pine St. Enter the nondescript black storefront and you will find your way into Bauhaus which is fast becoming my quintessential spot for a craft cocktail. This industrial basement-looking space has lots of exposed brick and wooden shelves containing lesser-known, small-batch booze, that add to the speak-easy feel to the place. It's an intimate space with a single bar counter with a small couch. And unlike its sister bar located on the second floor, it doesn't require the pretentiousness of a password to enjoy the creative libations that Bauhaus serves up from their expert mixologists. If you want a quick rum and coke or a Bud Light... this place isn't for you. If you appreciate creative craft cocktails that challenge your palette or want to learn about different flavors that unfamiliar liquors, bitters,and herbs offer, then you will like this place. I like the Corpse Reviver with its clean, fresh gin flavors along with the Women As Lovers if you are ordering from the menu. What keeps me coming back and what makes this place a 5 star is when you don't know what you want and the virtuoso bartenders (Joey or Chris) whip up a special concoction just for you. I asked for a gin drink with an egg white and Joey made the best tasting sloe gin fizz (balanced sweet/tart/creaminess) I've ever tasted! My friend noticed a cup with herbs and asked if it was rosemary and asked for a drink made with it. Joey obliged by serving up some kind of smoked rosemary drink that was beautifully presented and deliciously balanced. On another visit, I asked Chris what he likes to make and I was again left a winner with the best tasting, super-balanced Caipirinha (think mojito but with more sugar cane flavor). You can tell they love what they do because of their knowledge and passion in executing these delicious drinks. I've stopped by at busy nights and still had my drink at a good time, but I most enjoyed my first visit here on a quiet Thursday night where I enjoyed meaningful conversations where I got to know my bar copatrons and my bartender. I absolutely love this bar. As you walk in off the side street you have to be looking for it. As soon as you walk in the first thing you'll realize, this isn't your typical bar. They actually have a bartender! Mixologist if you will. All of their drinks are handcrafted, so you're not getting just some run-of-the-mill mix type of drink. There is a speakeasy upstairs, but if you do not know the password, or don't feel like making the trek upstairs. A coworker wanted me to check out Hanson's (upstairs) but when we stopped by, Hanson's was not open yet so we decided to have a drink at Bauhaus. I never knew such place existed. When I go drinking downtown, my usually spots are on Orange or Wall St. Bauhaus is pretty hidden but it's definitely worth a visit. I love the decor in this bar. The brick wall, the lighting and the candles give it some class and it does not smell bad like most bars downtown. Our bartender was really nice and knowledgeable about drinks. My coworker asked for a customized drink that is not on the menu and the bartender made it just the way he wanted. My other coworker got an old fashion and said that it was not the best he had and that the drink is not exactly an old fashion. He said that the ice cube needed to bigger and there needs to be more cherries. I got the straw dog - a drink with scotch, dolin dry, strawberry, lemon and grapefruit bitters. It is a very girly drink and tasted okay. I liked watching how the drinks get made at Bauhaus. I felt like I was in a chemistry class watching the bartender. He put a lot of love and details of attention into making each drink. The drink can also be customized to your liking (more sweet, more smokey, less alcohol etc.). I ordered a princess Charlottw cake for my wifes birthday and its the most beautiful cake I have seen in a long time. Their pastries are amazing and great tasting as well. The offer a variety of breads including gluten free. They offer other german delicatessens in the shop such as sausages and cheese. The ladies behind the counter are very friendly and helpful. If you want a top tier bakery this place is one of them. I can see parking can get tight but there is a parking lot across the train tracks to support the business in this shopping village. read more

Wandered into this cute bar while hanging out downtown Orlando with a friend. We went in because it was fairly empty and quite so we could talk and catch up. She told me they made specialty cocktails and only served craft beers. We opted for two different beers recommended by the bartender. I told him I wanted something fresh and crisp and he recommended a kolsch which had lighter alcohol content compared to others and I loved it! My friend got an IPA and she loved it as well. We hung out for a bit and than someone ordered a specialty drink and left so the bartender was nice enough to give it to us. It was a gin based cocktail and I normally don't drink gin but I watched him take his time making it and was intrigued. He gave me the "ten in a swear jar" which had gin, st German, lilies blanc, citrus and flowers. It blew my mind! I was so surprised at how delicious it was and that time he took to create it made me love it even more. I will definitely be back to have this drink and more. The vibes of the bar was so cozy and intimate. They also had a second floor which was super cute and quite as well. Bauhaus has become one of my favorite spots for handcrafted drinks downtown. Previously NV Art bar, I first came across this spot passing by and noticed the interior looked pretty cool and decided to check it out with my friend. It's a cozy bar, and by cozy I mean bar seating and a comfy couch area. It's almost the size of Courtesy, maybe smaller. We fell in love by first drink. Joey the bartender and owner explained the menu and gave his recommendations. I tried 5 of the drinks and all of them were top class, on point! Joey is an amazing bartender. His knowledge of alcohol, and what goes well with what is pretty cool too. You can even tell him what kind of drinks and flavors you like and he can create one for you. My second visit was pretty much the same, except I met Chris, the other bartender who is pretty much in the same class as Joey. Highly recommend this place for people who can appreciate a classy handcrafted drink. Yes, you will have to wait a little bit longer for your drink and also for a seat if it's crowded, but it is well worth the wait. Cool quite place tucked away in downtown. The wife and I checked this place out for a night cap on date night. I asked for a recommendation for a whiskey drink and the bar tender, Michael I believe, relayed that was his specialty and he would jus make me something. The something turned out amazing didn't even have a name for it jus spur the moment. The wife's drink was also excellent off if the menu. We'll return I like that it's nice and quiet in top of excellent craft cocktails. Having lived in New York and Miami this bar doesn't ask any favors from neither. Stumbled upon this gem walking by. The exterior has no branding and the music summons you from the sidewalk. Once entering they "got" you. The bartender is outstanding and the drinks will slap up most or probably any bar in Florida. A friend and I have been wanting to check out Bauhaus for a while (partially because I've heard great things about their craft drinks, but mainly because you know, undead undead undead whatever). The service was great, the atmosphere was lovely (and not overly crowded because it was Wednesday), and the drinks were nothing short of delicious. I ordered the corpse reviver and ten in the swear jar and both were fresh and purrfect. The only thing I wouldn't suggest (but really.... I would) is to challenge Joey Tiki on whether he can make a decent tiki drink or not. He will. Maybe it'll be more than just decent. Maybe it'll be inside a coconut. Maybe not. Very disappointed with the service here. My boyfriend and I were walking along the streets of downtown until we came across this small speakeasy. Walked in, wasn't acknowledged at all yet still proceeded to sit down. We sat at the bar for a good 15 minutes and got completely ignored. The bartender was too busy talking his head off to another customer sitting a few chairs down. There were only two other people sitting at this small bar, so it was not like the place was slammed or even remotely busy. The only reason we stuck around for so long was because we gave the service the benefit of the doubt and really wanted to try a cocktail. We were never attended too and just got up and left. Very slow service, they don't seem to care about the people that are there. They take a long time to make the drinks. On a busy Friday night there is only 2 bartenders attending to more than 20 people. There is a speak easy located upstairs, unfortunately if you are wearing flip flops and shorts they will not let you in. Overall this location did not provide great service in that they made their customers feel appreciated and important. I would not suggest going here if you are looking for good drinks or superb service. My bf ordered the white negroni definitely was not good. read more

This bar has HORRIFIC service! I have never been treated so poorly in my entire life - pretty sure they hate women. My best friend planned my bachelorette trip to our hometown of Orlando. We stopped in a cinco de mayo block party to begin the day. My friend is newly pregnant and was serving as our designated driver. We entered Bauhaus and she inquired to the man behind the bar if there was a restroom available. He replied "this is a bar, not a restroom." I was dumbfounded. I'm sorry sir but what goes in must come out. We told him we planned to purchase drinks and our friend was pregnant and just needed to use the restroom first. He said that "she should be at home on the couch then." ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! He then spoke to the other bartender and they began to laugh at us and yell obscenities. We were not unruly in any way, this was our first stop of the afternoon. I am embarrassed that my friends had to endure this type of treatment in my hometown. Its disgusting. Joey - the way you treat people is completely unacceptable and I do hope you will reconsider your actions moving forward. As for me - we will NEVER return to Bauhaus, and I hope that others will reconsider their patronage as well. read more

I stopped here one night when I was strolling around downtown and it was a fun little treat. The place was FREEZING which was my only complaint. We sat down and the bartender who was there (sorry I do not remember your name man) asked us what kind of drinks we liked after we glanced at the menu and we as simple folk did not know what to order so we told him what we typically like and he gave us a nice show of him making these craft cocktails. It was a lot of fun to watch. I felt like we were watching some kind of potions master taking all of these label-less bottles and mixing it all together. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. This past weekend, while celebrating a dear friend's bachelorette, a group of us (6 women) were bar hopping for Cinco de Mayo in downtown Orlando. Our designated driver is 6 months pregnant and was such a trooper the entire time, having an amazing attitude and happily enduring our antics. At one point, she needed to use the rest room and Bauhaus was our next planned stop. When she asked to use the restroom, the bartender, pictured here, on the right, told her "we're a bar, not a bathroom." She politely explained that she would happily buy a drink but she is pregnant, and noted that we were all coming in to buy at least a few. He responded by stating that if she was pregnant she should be home on the couch, and refused to let her use the restroom. Not that it should matter, but it was 5:45PM in the afternoon, and she was our designated driver. Obviously, we promptly left without buying any drinks after the way she had been treated. When two of us looked at the bartender with disapproving looks (and did not say a word), he promptly told us to "f*ck off". Any bar that employs someone who behaves so disgustingly does not deserve business, and his counterpart (pictured on the left), stood by watching. I highly recommend anyone looking to visit the area pick another bar, as this one blatantly discriminates against pregnant women, and there are a number of other bars in the area that are far more enjoyable and open minded! read more

He is my favorite, he does such a great job and is very conversational and interactive with you. Loved the atmosphere in this place, the old brick walls and lighting, great place to take a date for a romantic drink. The bartender really knows his stuff and turns out some awesome tasting cocktails. Good use of bitters and fresh citrus to bring out the flavor of the whiskey in the old fashion I had. So we came looking for Hanson's shoe repair but there was a wait so we decided to grab a drink from downstairs at Bauhaus. We should've just waited upstairs at the door to Hanson's because the headache that ensued just about ruined the entire night for us. So we order at our drinks at Bauhaus and when they arrive the bartender spills half of one of our drinks and says "I'm sorry take that one and we will make you another one" so we respond "ok thanks". The last member of our group arrives and we give him the half drink, since your bartender gave us his word that another drink was on its way. Well after we pay and leave a fair and generous tip, the other bartender comes over and pours a half-assed attempt at rectifying the situation in the original spilt cup that's in the hand of our fifth member( not the person who originally ordered it). Now confused and irritated, we call over the guy who promised a new drink and ask him what just happened. He says" oh he said he was just going to top you off". To which we reply, "That is not what you said, you gave us your word". Then the other incompetent bartender who made the drink. Tries to say " I yelled across the bar id top you off, why would I give you two drinks, come on!" From there he tried to defend that he was giving great customer service, when in reality he was being a cheap asshole and continued to argue with us. Then he decides to snatch the drink out of my friends hand and says "I will fucking make you a new one!" So he comes back and slams the drink down and that's the last time he will ever serve us as we are done with Bauhaus. I have to wonder if the owners are hurting for cash because the dick of a bartender was acting as if each drink was paid for by him. Hanson's was pretty cool though read more

This was a very nice bar, I enjoyed their extensive drink list with some great new cocktails and contemporary takes on classics. Our bartender Bo was fantastic, he gave us a good rundown on the drink choices and helped refine our search for the perfect drink for our palette. I also really enjoyed the large array of alcohols they had, some I have not seen or tasted before and was eager to try. Their extensive whiskey selection was also great tho they did not have any cask strength options. We were also offered a complimentary craft shot made with Old Forester and I was not disappointed.
