I've been here before and loved what I ordered. This time was completely different. Killer interior - I love a moody, airy space with good lighting and plant babies galore! Service was good though. I must have ordered the wrong things this time, and I was there for happy hour. The crab rangoon squash blossom was kind of fishy. I was expecting something that looked like or was housed in a squash blossom, but it was a fried ball of gloppy crab filling. I also ordered the jalapeño popper deviled eggs. Two Words . . VERY RICH I keep forgetting that this restaurant is essentially serving Southern style comfort food in an upscale setting. Southern comfort food as a general rule just doesn't sit well with me anymore and I'm going to be very transparent and bare my soul a little bit here but here goes . . . Ever since being on GLP1's, I've developed a really complicated relationship with comfort food. Foods that are rich, buttery, creamy or fatty now hit me completely differently than they used to. It's almost like my body immediately goes into shutdown mode afterwards. I feel heavy, exhausted and like I've instantly ballooned even if the portions themselves aren't massive. For the longest time I honestly thought it was simply the richness of the food itself but now I realize it's because my digestion just can't process heavier comfort foods the same way anymore. Suddenly... it all makes sense. The food itself here is VERY good. Properly seasoned, well prepared, beautifully presented... absolutely no complaints there whatsoever. I simply have to become more mindful and strategic now with my menu selections no matter WHERE I dine. I chose the Creekstone Farm's NY Strip with the fabulous bone marrow which I KNOW is supposed to be incredibly nutrient rich and good for you... but honestly... it just about put me under afterwards. This dinner happened thanks to Ronnald M. and his sister Teris and it was our pre-opera dinner outing before seeing the fabulous Merry Widow at the Dr. Phillips Center. Visited for breakfast, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite clearly advertised hours starting at 9 AM, at 10 AM the restaurant was effectively not operating as open. Only a hostess and a chef were present, and we were restricted to just a few small tables near the entrance, while the rest of the empty dining area was off-limits. We were told the restaurant was "still closed," which directly contradicted their posted hours. The overall attitude made us feel unwelcome, and there was little to no effort to provide even basic service. It felt more like we were inconveniencing the staff than being received as guests. If the restaurant is not prepared or staffed to offer proper breakfast service, it should not be advertised as such. read more

I came to The Monroe after a final with my girlfriends, and it was the perfect way to unwind. We had been here before and fell in love with the truffle fries, so we had to come back. The herb aioli was unlike anything I've had before and honestly made the dish. We also tried the General Tso's cauliflower. The flavor was great, but the breading was a little raw inside. I think my favorite part of the meal was the warm potato salad. My party and I tried several different items on the menu as you can see from the photos The meatloaf was pretty good and the fried chicken was delicious and everything was really tasty but just not worth the money that I paid for it. I wouldn't go all the way out to a restaurant just to have fried chicken. Went to brunch at the Monroe today and the food was TO DIE FOR. We ordered the off menu bananas foster waffles as an app (it's an entree) and split it 3 ways. It was the perfect crispy outside, soft doughy inside waffle with an incredible sauce and chopped up bananas. Sadly it wasn't on the table long enough for me to snap a pic. I also had an off menu mocktail, Oathbreaker. It featured a strawberry flavor and a whipped matcha foam/cream topping that was unlike anything else I've tried. For mains I had the biscuits and gravy (usually an app) which had cheddar cheese and this amazing old bay type seasoning with a little kick (reminiscent of red lobsters cheddar bay biscuits but much heartier and fluffier). They had parallel parking and we got there right at opening so we were able to easily find parking. Our server was very nice and welcoming. By checking out the possibilities online, I had already decided to try the highly rated fried chicken lunch. I was not disappointed in the least. Hubby preferred the macaroni salad, but I enjoyed the marinated combination more. One guest warned us about the appetizer spread for the crackers having a kick to it, so I spread it thinly enough for the spiciness to be just right. The resulting flavors were unique and an ideal opener before our meals. The only downside of our visit was the pricey ticket left by the city of Orlando on my car parked across the street from the restaurant. Having an extremely difficult time finding the location (building names and numbered addresses), we arrived later than the designated time. I noticed the 2 hour limit on the sign, but I missed the concept of figuring out the necessity and how to prepay for street parking. But the quality of the ingredients is really good and everything is cooked well. The cocktails here are also sooo good. Their bartenders are fantastic and I've never had a bad cocktail.
