Highly disappointing. Beautiful atmosphere!!! Walked in at 530pm and there was no customers...asked where we should sit and she stated wherever. So we decided to sit at the table just as you enter the bar area as there was some good music playing overhead. Wish she would have told us that we would only get bar service and would have to walk up there and order everything...might have chosen a seat in the "restaurant" area instead, it had been a long day. Went up to the bar to order and we had a party of 4 (it took a while to order). There was another person standing in line looking to order a drink and he gave up and left. I ordered an old fashioned and it was probably the most blah that I have ever had. You can see it in the pic of my food that I will post. I also ordered the jagerschnitzel which I have been craving for months...1/2 of the schnitzel was breading and it was super chewy. The gravy had too much flour in it and it was super thick. The red cabbage did not taste like german red cabbage-so sad! The other peeps in the party thought their food was just "ok" as well. read more

Bavarian Brauhaus Here's one that everyone should read before stepping into the Bavarian Brauhaus, Bryan, TX. A small group of veterans went for our weekly get-together for an evening of food & drinks. These folks range from serving in WWII to more current conflicts. Food was ordered. Some was served but unfortunately mine was missed. It was then reordered. One of the members at the table asked if he could speak to a manager. The manager came over & asked what the issue was so I explained. She then told me that the ordered item was no longer served. The wait staff had an app for it & it was later served. The Manager proceeded to yell at me calling me & call me entitled "A-hole" & told me I don't contribute anything to the restaurant. She then stated I don't need to come back and that I brought nothing to the Restaurant. (Only $200-$400 a month). The whole table looked flabbergasted. Our weekly group as well as the monthly group of 25+ are looking to relocate. I'm certain that the owners don't realize who they have employed as a manager. Be very careful if you decide to patronize this establishment. read more

Great food! Terrible wait staff however, my friend and I were seated for 45 minutes before our server even talked to us. Then didn't see him again till our food was coming out. Tried to order a drink from the bar while we were waiting and they said we had to order through our waiter. Once again excellent food but the service team definitely needs some work. read more

They refer to their recipes as authentic but I found that not to be true. Had the Jagerschnitzel and was not impressed. The Jager was pasty and not very flavorful. It definitely was not anything near the sauce I came to love in Germany. They fried their Spaetzel in butter which is unique if they executed correct. There was way too much butter for my liking. Spaetzel doesn't need to be fried, prepare it as designed. Sorry but was very disappointed. read more

That was unexpected... good Bavarian food in the heart of the city of Bryan in TX... not a large selection of items, but the specialty of the day (schnitzel) came with ~10 choices of sauce and a side from 6 Bavarian classics. I tried the veal schnitzel with lemon sauce and mashed potatoes, which was quite good (although a little heavy). Overall, it's a good place to socialize with friends after a day of work. The food portion is really good. Me and my friend went there on Monday and they have "all you can eat" options on Monday. But for the all you can eat, you cannot change the meat you decided at the first time but you can change your side and gravy. I choose Bratwurst sausage with spatzle and Blaukraut for my first dish and sausage, mashed potato, fries for my second. The sausage doesn't come with gravy but you can pick two sides. For Chicken and Pork, you can choose different gravies and sides, but only one side each time. And it comes with a dessert (super small slide of cake), which is the reason I give 4 instead of 5. The Spatzle is good, the sausage is tasty but not as good as I thought it would be. Probably because I'm too picky. The chicken is not dry at all, super juicy! I like it! read more

Y'all the Hungarian Goulash is seriously the saltiest thing I've ever tasted; would not recommend

We stumbled upon this great little restaurant when trying to go to a coffee house nearby that happened to be closed. What serendipity! We wanted dessert but they did not serve coffee (my only complaint) so ended up ordering an appetizer plate and a beer. The plate would be sufficient as a meal and as such was a great value! The decor is authentic, homey, and comfortable. If we lived closer we would be back again soon! The waitstaff was attentive but not overly friendly. Does the owner know his "manager" is running off paying customers with her flippant "suck it up buttercup" non customer service attitude. These were the words she said to my husband. All he wanted was a nice German meal - not a nasty attitude when asked what cut of pork was used for the schnitzel. This place is definitely the most authentic German restaurant I've ever been to in B/CS. I'm originally from New Braunfels where everything is German themed, and this place fit with the same decor scheme. Having been to Germany last Summer I can say this place's food is definitely similar to what I ate over there. Thankfully the Germans discovered how to fry things and I love fried things. I had the Pork Jägerschnitzel with spätzle and it tasted just like what I ate in Germany. The food coupled with the wood ceiling, large seating booths, and authentic German music made me feel just like I was in Germany in December. That is, until I stepped outside and felt the warm Texas weather. Our waitress was friendly, the food was authentic, and the decor was unique. Credit Card over charge. I left 30% cash tip, a few days later I noticed an additional 20% was also charged to my credit card without my approval. I called the restaurant and left the information and was told the manager was supposed to call me back. They never did. I emailed the address on the receipt again no response. First time coming here after a recommendation from a friend. The food was delicious and like a well needed home cooked meal. Poor waiter, he was the only one working, but he was working his butt off. Disappointment would be the one word to describe this place. I visit German restaurants from coast to coast wherever I travel (as well as in Germany), and this one seemed to have such promise, and fell completely flat on it's face. The plus side: The tables, benches, lighting etc. all look extremely authentic as to what a classic German beer hall looks like. The staff was also friendly. Prices were reasonable, but that all goes out the window with the quality of what you get. The down side: First things first, all the beers that I tried there on tap were flat and had an off taste. I tried 4 different ones, and they were all on the flat, bad tasting, and warm side. These are 4 beers that I am very familiar with, so it was definitely something in their tap system. Wow, worst beer quality that I have had at any German place, ever. The food was not far behind that. I started with the sausage sampler which consisted of a few pieces of 3 different sausages which were obviously reheated, shriveled, and mediocre at best. That was on top of a mediocre German potato salad which was cold instead of warm (how it is supposed to be served), and a bunch of the worst sauerkraut that I have ever had. It was pure mush. The mustard was also something like French's and not a German style mustard either. Then I had the Schweinebraten (roast pork), and the Spätzle (chunky German egg noodles). I opted out on the sauerkraut that it was supposed to come with since it was so bad. I guess that they previously had the red one (rotkraut or blaukraut), but they seemed to have taken that off the menu. The pork was old and reheated tasting, and I almost needed a steak knife to cut the 1/4" thick pieces because they were so dried out and tough. The spätzle was OK, but the sauce from the pork was a little odd (normally a beer gravy), so that was what you had to flavor your noodles. All in all pretty bad. I would consider coming back if at least the beer was good, but with what I experienced, that will definitely not be happening the next time that I am in town. Save your money and go elsewhere. read more

My husband and I have always enjoyed our experiences at this restaurant! It's super hopping during first Friday so beware of all the people. They have good German beer to go with our meal. We actually love the heaven and hell. It's our personal favorite! I saw someone didn't have a good experience with that dish but I would totally disagree as we get it every time. Perhaps they were having an off night. The only downside is that the restaurant is far from where we live. We love the sauerkraut!! This German place was even more tasty than the one we went to in Fredericksburg which is supposed to be known for their German food. I like the decor of this restaurant also. In addition, their desserts are fabulous!!! I loved this place! We went to Munich for Octoberfest last year, and it is so fun to find places in the US that try to have that kind of atmosphere. When you walk in, you really feel like you are entering a German beer hall. They offer several European beers, and have a full menu of traditional German food. We tried a few appetizers, which were excellent. The meatballs were very good, and the sausage sampler with sauerkraut and potato salad was excellent. I was not a fan of the Hungarian goulash because the beef was tough and the seasonijng seemed a little off, but I would definitely go back to try other interesting dishes. This is a fun place to go, and I bet it is packed during Octoberfest (and St. Patrick's Day, as it has an open passageway to the Irish pub next door). read more

You have no idea how long I had been wishing B/CS had a German food restaurant before the Brauhaus opened. I was seriously trying to convince people to road trip with me to Fredericksburg just to get some good German food. Thank goodness we now not only have a German food restaurant, but a good one at that! Just a tip for when you go, you seat yourself at this restaurant. It's not very obvious on your first visit, there's only a small little card saying "Please seat yourself." Most of the time this works fine, but there was one occasion when I saw a family come in and sit down, but the wait staff didn't notice they were new customers so they got up and left before someone came to help them. If this happens to you don't leave, just catch a waiter and say you'd like to order. They're not hard to miss in their Bavarian outfits. The Jagerschnitzel is hands down the best thing on the menu. Before the restaurant opened I had been making my own Jagerschnitzel at home with a recipe I found online. When I dined at the Brauhaus for the first time and ordered the Jagerschnitzel because it's my favorite German dish, my mind was blown and I have never attempted to make Jagerschnitzel at home again. It's been put to shame, and I won't subject anyone to that rubbish ever again! The Jagerschnitzel comes with Spätzle (noodles) which are ok, but I find sort of bland, so sometimes I ask to substitute with French Fries. Because I love Jagerschnitzel so much I've never felt like ordering anything else the countless times I've gone, but I always try some bites of everyone else's plates and everything there is good. The only thing I don't agree with is the "cheap" rating above. It's definitely not expensive, but it's not cheap either. When you're paying for more than just yourself and you order more than just water it can be a little shocking when you get the check, but when I went this past weekend for my birthday they seemed to be serving larger portions than when they first opened so that makes it sting less when you can take home leftovers. Also, they are slightly more festive in the spirit of Oktoberfest right now with Bavarian tablecloths and flags everywhere. So go in before it's over! Oh and there's a children's menu now, so the rating "good for kids" above should be changed to "yes"! read more

This place had excellent food. The schnitzel was perfectly cooked every time. The bratwurst, however, underwhelmed me (which is why I'm giving it a 4 out of 5; isn't this what people generally look for in a German restaurant?). It just seemed like any other large sausage, and I've had better from the store. The taste of everything was great, including all the sides. The sauerkraut was nice and mildly sweet, definitely the best I've ever had. I'm not sure if authentic German sauerkraut is that mild, but I would prefer that over store bought mouth-puckeringly sour sauerkraut any day.
