We went to O'Bannon's Tap House a couple of times while we were in town for a game. It is an inviting Irish Bar. They have an outstanding draft like that includes Guiness (served in Guiness pint glasses). My nephew had one and thought it was perfect. I had a Hefeweizen from White brewery that was excellent. They are not a sports bar, but had a couple of TVs playing games. It is a little run down and the bathroom stinks, but definitely worth a visit for the great selection of draft beers. read more

Man this place was incredible and reminded me of a place my buddy and I used to frequent in the Clear Lake area of Houston. I came to this bar during St. Patty's Day this year and they did not disappoint at all. They even had a food truck that apparently the owner of the bar runs and the food was great! They had blocked off a portion of the street that the bar is on and had activities for everyone the whole day and night. The rock band they booked for the concert at night was great and fully of energy. I so wish the Galveston area had a place like this, perhaps one day. I will definitely be back! read more

I've started my beer card and been working on it for a while now. I love going in and playing chess with friends earlier in the day, then watching as the crowd grows to a party scene. This is the best bar in college station by far, and perhaps my favorite of all time. The service is always great (game days and weekends can get busy, but every bar in cstat is that way). I went here for the first time yesterday (a Friday) I got there around 8, and it was a small crowd. By the time we left around 11:30, it was popping. I like this place a lot. I also want to leave a 5 star review. It is my favorite bar on NG. The rest all kind of mesh together and are average for me. Exceptional beer list and not half bad cocktails either (semi above average for NG). Price is on point as well, especially with the deals and specials. What the hell are the hours though? I am sitting in my car @ NG as I write this review. Its a Friday. It is 2:55PM. Yelp, Google, and their website say they open at 2PM. As of now it is dark inside with not a soul stirring. This is the fourth time I have had this happen. Once was at 4PM, another at 5PM (they were training which is understandable), and then 2PM and 3PM. I have also seen them open at noon...can we get a consistent routine of hours please? It is really annoying to drive down here when it is advertised as open only to see them closed. What is even worse is as a student I used to come here regularly around 2-3PM. This needs to be addressed as it can really irritate solid customers and turn off new customers. Edit: Owner reached out to me and gave a thorough explanation of why their hours fluctuate. Definitely shows that the business cares. Back in my good graces! This place was one of my favorite places on Northgate. One of the only places you can get a good dark beer and enjoy it! However, the staff that has been hired within the last couple months has been a major reason me and my friends don't go there anymore. They told a girl in my group she had a flat chest. I have been coming to O'Bannons since they opened and I must say it brings me great joy to see their popularity continue to hold strong and grow. O'Bannons is the original Irish pub of Aggieland and the best place to get a bar on Northgate. Their selection of craft beer is outstanding and their prices are very fare. The bar itself feels authentic and rich in Irish charm. They have a vast selection of beer on draft and in bottle and their selection changes frequently. You could easily come to O'Bannons every day and not run out of new beers to try. Although craft beer is becoming universally popular these days, O'Bannons has been pouring amazing beer since way before it was cool and help pioneer the craft beer movement in Aggieland. As a side note, if you like O'Bannons and want to try some place new, especially if you are looking for something OFF Northgate, try Carney's pub. Talk about atmosphere! We have avoided Northgate at all costs for the past few years, but now that we've tried O'Bannon's we'll be braving the parking and college crowd more often. The best place in College Station to get a beer hands down. There is a great old worn in pub feel. Dark wood everywhere, tables scattered, interesting art work on the wall. This is not a sports bar, but there are plenty of TV's for all the Aggies to keep up with their preferred sports. Though when there is no game, the TV's are not just blaring ESPN for no reason. Very chill at off times, or when no game on. Anyway, the service is very informative and knowledgeable. There is a beer club of sorts for the beer ticker. A very good selection of all things booze. A good selection of whiskey, and the best beer selection until you get to Houston. Plenty of locals like Saint Arnold, now Karback, and always Real Ale. A good mix of international and out of state imports. Like Great Divide and Fuller's. They now do casks, which I love. I am not sure if that is on all the time, but seems like they have a good mix of beers they rotate in and out. The few times I have been there for a cask, it went fast. Always good. This was my go-to place in college and I still stop in to visit when I'm back in town. It has a laid-back atmosphere and the staff is super friendly. In fact, you can't go here and not get to know the bartenders because they are all awesome! My all-time favorite night to go is Tuesday for Karaoke. It gets pretty packed so if you want a table I suggest you get there early. They have a great happy hour daily that I used to take advantage of after classes and they also have half-pint night on Wednesdays. Sunday trivia is also worth checking out One of the biggest accomplishments of my college career was finishing my O'bannon's Beer Tour! Basically you drink one of every beer they have (75 total, and they rotate a few seasonally). You have 1 year to complete it and you can only drink 2 a night (damn TABC...) So hold on to that green stamp card they give you, because if you lose it you have to start all over again, and they can't combine multiple cards to let you finish faster if you forget to bring it (speaking from experience lol) Once you do finally finish you get an awesome hand crafted authentic O'bannon's Mug. The mug holds more than a pint and you can bring it back every time you come and have it filled for the same price as a pint. They even clean it for you before you leave! O'Bannons is the best bar in College Station and easily the best bar on North Gate. I discovered my interest in craft beer after visiting Houston's Flying Saucer and becoming a UFO member. When I moved to CS I worried that I'd be forced to drink Coors or something equally awful but found my home away from home in O'Bannon's. They carry all the local favorites Real Ale, Karbach, Deep Ellum, Southern Star, St. Arnold, etc and they constantly update their beers on tap. As for the scene it is much more tolerable than any other NG bars and provides guests with multiple ways to be entertained. Tuesday is karaoke Wednesday is pint night Sunday is trivia They also recently started to host pub crawls which is amazing! I've had some ups and downs at this bar, but I will definitely say that this is a bar to go to when you wanna chill and just have a beer or have a couple shots and stop to relax after barhopping from 6 or 7 bars on a typical weekend night out at northgate. It tends to be full on certain nights, but most of the time, since the interior is pretty roomy compared to a lot of the other bars, not including the backyard and rebel, its a great place to relax on a night out with friends. They have a great selection of beer on tap and a ton of other drink options on the menu. Two bar sections, so if one is too full you have the option of going to another one and paying a higher tip. overall experience each time I go to Obannon's is average for the bar scene. read more
