We have eaten here several times, had many of the different pork schnitzels, and been more than happy every time! Service is courteous and prompt. Don't be intimidated by the sauerkraut, theirs is home made and very mild. I'd recommend the potato also, for a side. It is vinegar & mustard based, but very subtle. The beer selection is excellent, if you like German beers. If not, there is a full-fledged Irish bar attached. I personally love Paulaner Pilsener! If you had asked me when this place first opened, I would have given it 5 stars, but the food has gone quickly downhill. But I think it is because the main chef only works some nights. It is certainly the best German food in College Station. That said, it is the only German food in College Station. The decor is absolutely fantastic, and the waitresses all dress in authentic German wear. Although, none of the wait staff understand German at all, and cannot understand any of the dishes when spoken properly to them, and need you to point at the items on the menu. Perhaps the wait staff could use a little bit of German tutoring, at least just on German food items on the menu. The number one best bang for your buck is the salad sampler, which is absolutely fantastic, and probably enough for a meal on its own, at $2.50. The kasespaetzle was quite good the first two times I went, but the next 7 or so times it has been absolutely atrocious. You think I would learn my lesson, but I keep hoping for that one good chef. The mushroom dumplings are very good, as are most of the meat dishes. Franziskaner (a German wheat beer) is on tap, which is fantastic, and available only else where in College Station at the Fox and Hound. read more

Great staff and service! You come in & seat yourself, which is a different, more welcoming vibe. The food is delicious and we thoroughly enjoy it. My boyfriend ordered the pork schnitzel & I had the Hungarian goulash, and both were absolutely delightful. The portion sizes are perfect & not outrageously large like what you will find at chain restaurants. The atmosphere is quite quaint & it is an ideal place to bring a large group of people. After browsing yelp for some restaurant ideas in B/CS, I came across Katy D.'s Best of B/CS list and found a German restaurant listed and was so excited I nearly wet myself (but didn't of course). So being a German food virgin (sans Brats), I needed to give this place a try w/ my Food Entourage (Paul T & G-Rant). The Breakdown... Food Purchased: Wiener schnitzel w/ Bavarian potato salad Verdict: The wiener schnitzel was very tender and surprisingly not oily. Some sauce would have been useful, but it was nevertheless good w/o. The Bavarian potato salad was soft w/ mild flavors = good. Here's the kicker, they were in the process of closing the kitchen, but stayed open for us a bit longer. Very cool. This was one of our favorite restaurants. Our last visit however makes us want to never go back. The prices look they increased and they nickel and dime you for everything as if theyre an especially fancy place. Portions are also smaller. They got an order wrong (wrong dish entirely) and ended up leaving the wrong order on the ticket then argued with us, when they didnt change it on the ticket, that it was the same price when it wasn't. Gone is the free bread at your table. Instead you can order housemade bread thats made with beer. It was incredibly dense and unflavorful. Even the pretzel bites with mustard they had before were better. My dish was the Heaven and Hell schnitzel. It was just Bland and Blander. And cold! They couldnt even have been bothered to salt it. While the pork was cooked it had cold temp and soggy breading, looks as though it sat waiting for a while. The salad one party member got was arguably prepakaged greens slapped on a plate. Other party member dishes were similarly uninspired and cold. When you walk in, and on a big board in the middle of the wall, they adverise a simple glass stein for $20. This reeks of desperation. All in all it looks like it the place is just a businesses loss write off for Murphy's Law. Only thing that was good was the sauerkraut, which we have always loved, and even that was not as good as when they first opened. read more

Great beer selection! The atmosphere is great and I think it would be super fun with a bug group of friends. My Wife had the pork jager schnitzel and it was delicious. I had the veal jager schnitzel, and unfortunately the veal was just on the wrong side of good. It was probably 2 days past its 'best eaten before date'. I'll be back fir the pork. In the meantime I hope they keep a closer eye on the freshness of their veal. read more

Excellent food, we all love it, WUNDERBAR! The staff is great and so friendly, we love the atmosphere. Since I was born and raised in Germany I know good German food and this is definitely it. The Jaeger schnitzel is delicious and we order it with Pommes (French Fries) and the gravy is to die for. Good Beer and good wine and an awesome dessert to finish things off. If you have not gone there you need to make a trip. By the way some information for the person that wrote about not having gravy with the Wiener Schnitzel, that is a dish served without gravy and with just lemon. They have a lot of different schnitzels in Germany some with gravy and some without. Can't wait to go back and visit and eat there soon! read more

Having grown up overseas and eaten all over the world, I really wanted to like this place. I loved the laid back authentic atmosphere, the people were friendly, and the beer was great. But those are the only good things I can say. The menu gave the choice between spätzle and mashed potatoes, but I was never asked which one I wanted (just brought the spätzle). I didn't care about that, because I would have gotten it anyways. When they brought my food out just minutes after ordering it, I became suspicious (knowing how long it takes to cook pork). Sure enough the outside of my meat was warm but the inside, although thoroughly cooked, was Luke warm and a tad tough. The lump of Spätzle looked a bit old and was warm on the outside but cold in the middle. I don't mind waiting 20-30 minutes for good, freshly-cooked food, but If I pay $15-$20, I don't want microwaved leftovers. I still wouldn't mind going here with friends for a few drinks at night but they close way too early for that. read more

Absolutely worse server experience I have ever experienced or witnessed. And I, for obvious reasons, have seen alot of server experiences and interactions. WON'T BE BACK AND PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY. When we walked into the restaurant the girl who was serving my wife and I, and some friends, threw the menus down after 5 minutes and walked away without introducing herself or saying anything. 3 of us ordered alcohol and when my wife ordered water the server said, "Really?". My wife is pregnant with our 2nd child and cannot drink I explained to her. She came back 10 minutes later and said, "Are you ready yet? We close in an hour and 15 minutes." The overall experience here was horrible. We had asked about the dessert that it said was INCLUDED ON MENY in our combo meal of all you can eat, whuch we paid for each guest for. She told us there was not anymore dessert and that they were closing in a half hour. I asked if i could pay for a different one or get comped for what we did not receive, but did pay for. She said that they weren't serving anymore desserts of any kind. We were brought here because of a Restaurant.com coupon that we had paid for. The coupon was a $50 certificate we paid $35 for, but you had to spend $75. When I presented the coupon she said, "You are really going to use a coupon?" We explained to her that we paid for that and the only reason we were in town was because my wife's sister just gave birth and I am a huge fan of German Cuisine (My wife had never had before). I had asked to speak to a manager as I come from the industry and she walked off. She dropped our check and Noone ever came and talked to us. I had asked again to speak to manager, as I know that management needs to know when an employee is killing their concept. She told us that the manager was too busy to speak to us. We went into this place understanding that they were busy and we would wait. After we were seated, we were accosted when attempting to use the restroom. After we explained that we were seated to the the guy that seated us, my children were traumatized (8 & 6). He was the one that told us to sit at the table, then said he never said to sit there. After we returned to our table, we waited 30 minutes and then ordered drinks, while other tables were sat. We got our drinks, then 2.5 hours later, after no food, and other tables had checks, a "manager" came out and kicked us out after accusing us of calling the waiter "stupid" for not turning in our order. Regardless of what happened, we sat for 2.5 hours, got no food, then got kicked out. I am a waitress in a past life so I understand being in the weeds. However, complete disrespect and disregard for paying customers Is terrible. I'm not sure how this place is still open after the way they treated us. I came for dinner with coworkers in town for an audit. Maybe it was all the soulless, indifferent food we'd been eating for the preceding several days, but we all greatly enjoyed our experience. The Jaegerschnitzel (pork) was excellent, filling without the food hangover; the homemade sausage sampler disappeared in an instant; I'm told the beer was great; the building and ambiance was really superb, especially with an Irish string band playing in the pub next door. I don't know what locals think food prices should be, but it seemed reasonable to we lowly government workers. This was real food, made by someone who cares, and it shows. read more

No red cabbage, and the desserts they offered were read off to us as none were listed on the menu. Tried the place again after a sub par experience about a year ago. This time things were much better. Schnitzel was excellent and home made brats were great. My husband, our 11 month old granddaughter, and friends went to Brauhaus at our suggestion. We had been before and enjoyed it. We were still eating when our waitress came to our table, played with the baby who was on my lap and then said, "she sure is a cutie, even with a full diaper". I looked down at the diaper and felt it and it was fine. My friend and I exchanged looks like what was that about. A few minutes later our waitress and another waitress who we had already been told was waiting on "regulars", came to our table again. Our waitress said seriously other customers were complaining about our granddaughter smelly diaper. Now both waitresses were standing near the baby and I, and there was no smell of a dirty diaper. I said she is fine and our waitress said that they had facilities for me to change her. At this point I pulled out the back of her diaper so they as well as I could see her bottom and that she was clean and did not need a change, which by the way, I did before entering the restaurant. My friends husband had been in the restaurant while this exchanged occurred and commented when he returned that he noticed the musty, almost cat litter box smell, upon entering the restaurant. My husband was paying the bill and when he returned, the first thing he said, was that as he walked to our end of the restaurant, he noticed a smell but it was smell of something unclean. As we left we all commented on the smell. Our waitress came to the door and apologized, which was just too little, too late. We did tell her the restaurant itself had the bad odor. First, the waitress should have been aware enough to know if our granddaughter needed changing, she would have been aware because she stood NEXT to her each time she came to the table. She should not have allowed the other waitress to insult us and ruin our meal on behalf of that waitresses customers. Our granddaughter was bathed and clean, unlike the restaurant which does have a strong odor towards the front where you enter. We will never return due to the way we were treated. By the way, our granddaughter was still poop free when we returned home and got her ready for bed! read more

I don't know what has happened to this place. New ownership or new chef or something like that. The food used to be fabulous. Tonight, my kids and I ordered what we always order, and we all decided we wouldn't be coming back. They've done away with the purple cabbage, and when I asked about it I was told that they wouldn't be serving it anymore, and everyone was unhappy about it. Well that makes perfect sense. Instead, they served what appeared to be canned sauerkraut. Then the Heaven and Hell arrived. There was no red and white sauce. Instead there was one sauce that was a uniform pale orange-ish color. It lacked any flavor at all, and was basically orange cream gravy. The spaetzle was soggy and without flavor. We were all very disappointed, and resolved not to return. It's a shame. We loved this restaurant when it opened a year or so ago. We told everyone one about it, my favorite menu item being the potato salad...it was a vinegar based concoction of goodness that I craved. We've gone back every few months since that first time and our experience has been progressively worse and worse. The cooking is totally inconsistent, the previously good potato salad, for example, is no longer good and is completely different every time I eat there. Friday we ate there and it was made with eggs mixed in! Unfortunately, our experience on Friday left us very disappointed from the service down to the food. I'm sorry to say this promising start is now off our list places to eat in the B/CS area and we are bummed. It's also pretty pricey, big portions but not worth it anymore in my opinion. read more
