I went with my sister to sauna, soak in the hot tub and enjoy the steam room. All the amenities were very nice. 4 stars because the Zumba music absolutely needs to be turned down. We could hear it while we were in the sauna in the locker rooms! I might've thought of joining the class that day but the music was louder than being in an actual club. This really ruined the relaxing vibe we were hoping for. The music rang throughout the entire facility. It was really upsetting that the only time I spent there aligned with the Zumba class. I've been going here for a couple of months now, and it is perfect for what I'm looking for. BAAC definitely needs some love for upgrading/fixing broken equipment, it's not shiny and new like maybe a Planet Fitness might be. If that's the type of place you're looking for, keep moving on. But... there are dry saunas, hot tubs, a steam sauna, a lap swimming pool, free-weights upstairs along with weight machines, treadmills, stair steppers, a multitude of other types of stationary bicycles and ellipticals. Downstairs there are free-weights and spin bikes, power-lifting-type stuff, and a couple of punching/kickboxing bags. There are a couple of racquetball courts and a basketball hoop in one of the courts, as well. Additionally there is a ping pong table upstairs, along with a childcare play area. The clientele here is mostly older from what I've seen, and everyone has been friendly and accepting of one another. The staff is great, and payments for the gym are month-to-month. I haven't run into issues with equipment availability, and there are times especially during midday when I feel like I have the whole place to myself. As much as I'd like to keep it that way, it would be a disservice not to recommend BAAC to the world :-) read more

Don't sign up for this place. Equipment is old and run down. When you cancel your membership they don't actually cancel it and continue to take the money until you catch the error. I am not the first person this has happened to. read more

The pool is amazing! Perfect lap pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room are wonderful! Upstairs is great! Now the people that work there!!!!! The kindest helpful folks! The members tend to be on the more older side and kind from what I have experienced! We are there for fitness not to show off! I am so glad to have found this place! read more

I have been a member for three years. I am very satisfied. The variety of classes,,availibility of services and hourly scheduling are great. BAAC has an entire upper floor dedicated to weight training, ellipticals etc. Their hours of operation give me the most flexibility with personal schedule. The staff are friendly and personable and the facility is clean and maintained well. read more

No. I'm no longer a member, I initially joined specifically for the steam room and pool. I wasn't aware the steam room was broken until a week after I signed up. The sauna also wasn't as hot as it once was years ago. Old outdated equipment, mold in the bathrooms smelly stinky carpets that was blamed on other guests body odors as I walked past the fitness room headed to the pool. Canceled our membership because my mom was constantly getting uti's from the pool. I don't think they cleaned it like they claimed. Owner is creepy too. read more

Not a family friendly place! A gang of naked elderly women chased me and my kids out of the women's locker room, because my 6-year-old son needed help changing his clothes. The manager agreed with the women and banned me. My son even fell; he was terrified. Seriously! Wouldn't recommend. read more

Doesn't even deserve 1 star. This place is disgusting. Hadn't been cleaned it seems like for years. Gym is full of old, run down and broken equipment. Seriously, I felt so gross being here. Came in for a quick workout while visiting Coos Bay. Most of the gym is on carpet? that hasn't been cleaned for years. The machines are really disgusting and most of them need maintenance. I haven't been there since the beginning of covid but my husband came home one day after doing an hour of laps in the pool. All his body hair was burnt off and the hair on his head. It was from all the chemicals in the pool. The fan in the woman's bathroom was always in need of a really good cleaning. read more

this place is filthy, the Jacuzzi has an oil slick that floats there every day the weight machines are old and rusty some dating back to the early 1960 or late 1950's a lot of the equipment is unsafe for members to use but complaints about broken equipment goes ignores by staff & management the facility is never cleaned by staff and it looks like this has been the policy here for years. the build up of mold id a problem also a note the pictures in the advertisements above are not of the bay area fitness club( don't be fooled) read more

This place is a dump. The city has a notice of substandard building sticker in the front window. Owner never fixes anything and is a jerk. If you sign his waiver to go here then you're willing to risk injury or death and you cannot hold them accountable regardless of how neglected the facility is. Read before you sign. Buyer beware!!! I'm posting this from the ER after the elliptical machine broke while I was mid stride. I hyperextended my knee and fell to the floor next to the other already broken machines. This place is overpriced and expensive. I joined because it was close to my house. It's worth the drive to join one of the gyms in downtown Coos Bay or at the community college. The machines are dirty and not maintained well. All of them are out of date machines from the mid to late 90's. The class times are much more catered to retired people or people without jobs. Definitely not worth the $55 a month. Don't do it! read more

New to the area. I went in to tour the facility. Our insurance offers the Silver and Fit program to their members. I got a really bad feeling just from the outside of the building. It's so run down. Then it got worse inside the door. What a disappointment. All I can say is it's in dire need of a total remodel. But the very worse part was the "swamp" pool. Oh man! It's the worst I've seen, even at a run down campground. I would be afraid of disease. The mold is everywhere. Dripping rotted wood beams and cloudy water. I was extremely disappointed to see equipment older than me in the weight room. Nearly every weight machine has rust on it and I refuse to use their ancient treadmills. The ceilings in the locker room are in horrible condition and there is mold in between the tiles in the shower area. Used to be members but quit because of the high price and lack of maintenance. So....recently got a card in the mail advertising "NEW OWNERS" and offering a special "Black Friday" pricing designed to entice new members. Went down on Friday to re-join only to discover that there were no "New Owners". Mark was still....technically....the owner and that the "minor issue" holding up the sale was the $600,000+ in OSHA fines owed by current owner Mark. Asked if I could get my $800+ back if the deal fell through and was told NO....there are no guarantees. Called the next day asking of they would honor the "Black Friday" pricing once the deal went through and was told that current owner Mark had promised to reimburse members if the deal fell through so we went down and paid for a full year membership. So....sitting at home tonight when my phone rings. I answer and who do you think it was? FORMER AND STILL OWNER MARK questioning me about why I did not want to be a member of BAAC if he was involved. I laid out my grievances....told him it's not personal...we just did not feel we were getting the value for the cost of membership. All he wanted to do was argue and justify his high prices....lack of maintenance.....and whine about the injustice of the $600,000+ in OSHA fines. It was the single most unprofessional experience I have ever had. Who ever shared my personal information with him should be fired. I will be there first thing in the morning and somebody is going to get an earful. AND NOW I FIND THEY HAVE DELTED MY POST ON THEIR FB ACCOUNT AND BLOCKED ME FROM MAKING FURTHER COMMENTS. read more

My medical insurance company helps pay for a gym membership. I thought BAAC would be a good place to go because it's only about 5 minutes from my work and I could go on my lunch hours. I have gone to the club 3 times to activate my account. Each time the young ladies at the front desk have told me they didn't know how to do that kind of account. Was a member years ago, at which Mark who then was the manager was insulting and treated people with no respect even though clients like myself had an annual membership. One time when lap swimming with others who were members of other clubs that share with this membership, Mark ordered the 3 of us that he was stopping the lap swim and calling it family night. The other members got out of the pool and said how glad they were not members of this particular area and how they felt sorry for those such as myself who were. to say that this place is run down is an understatement. the gym equipment looks like a collection of junk that was rescued from the dump. some of this weight equipment dates back to the 1960's covered in rust. if something breaks, it doesn't get repaired. none of the cardio machines work right each one has at least one problem. the pool area is a mess there is black mold under the bricks that form the rim of the pool numerous members have complained about it but nothing is done. the public hot tub suffers from a constant number of broken tiles ( i don't dare go in there bare footed) the carpet in the racket ball viewing area has a giant " mysterious dark brown stain that has been allowed to remain for at least a month ( I don't want to think about what or were this came from. one more note of interest the reviews you see here are the best ones posted. the owner paid for ten of the worst reviews to be hidden from view. I understand that the club was recently sold, I hope that the new owners are prepare to make some huge changes. Let's start with the staff, they are pleasant enough but have no clue of what's going on. The whirl pool hasn't worked in two days, you ask the front desk when it'll be fixed and the answer is: which one I don't know anything about it. The place is filthy, the carpets are probably from the 70's, the machines are as old and half don't work. When you ask the staff about fixing the machines all they say is "I'll let the manager know" this is the standard answer for everything. They need training. There is no supervision, don't go to the pool, I've seen someone wash her clothes in there. People bring their children and spend the entire time letting them dive in the pool and disrupt everyone else's enjoyment with their behavior and loudness. The locker rooms are disgusting, mold everywhere, the whirlpools are like cesspools. I hope something is done by the new owners, we'll see. read more

This place attempted to commit fraud by removing a sign outside posted by the Coos Bay Building Inspector that the building was unsafe. The locker room is decrepit and OLD. The Jacuzzi did not work for nearly a month. The weight room has very old equipment and is very depressing to work out in. The waiting area has old carpet and is depressing. If you like to feel like you've gone back in a time warp to a place built in the 1970's BUT not kept up, run-down, dreary and with dishonest fraudulent business practices -- this is the place for you. BUT if you prefer to work out at a cleaner much more modern place -- there are much better choices available in Coos Bay, as I found out. read more

I wish I could give them zero stars. I went in to the club for a tour. I started to get a membership but a girl at the counter was rude because I don't allow my picture to be taken unless mandated by law. So I took the contract back and said no thanks. The owner even said he has it on video and I told him good thing because I'll need it. He called me last night to apologize "profusely." I have witnesses to this call as both my son and my grandpa were in the room. I did not agree to become a member while on the phone with him. They withdrew the funds from my account anyway which made my credit card payment bounce and on the bank account alone I got $30 overdraft fee. The credit card will have their fees too, but I don't know what they are yet. Regardless, I went in to the club and demanded my money back and they refused and pointed to a sign that said "no refunds." The owner had given me his cell number the night before so I called him. Well, he said they didn't do anything wrong. I told him that if he did not refund my money I would file a complaint with the Secretary of State and the better business bureau to which he said "you're not going to scare me into a refund." read more

The owner does no upkeep until the absolute last minute. The staircase from the pool up to the steam room was basically falling apart and it still was neglected for far too long. Nothing in the rooms where they have classes is wired properly. Just extension cords plugged into countless extension cords - how they have ever passed an OSHA inspection is BEYOND me. I would workout pretty much anywhere else in town before I would give the owner a penny. read more
