We recently hired Bay Area Tree Care Inc. for vegetation management and hillside cleanup in Pinole, and I truly cannot say enough good things about Fernando and his crew. From start to finish, Fernando was professional, responsive, and easy to work with. The crew showed up early to make sure they could start as close to 8:00 AM as possible, which I really appreciated. Everyone was extremely friendly, professional, and respectful throughout the entire process. We had a steep hillside with a lot of overgrown ivy, lower shrubs, and areas that needed cleanup, including the patio area, along with selective tree pruning. I was very clear that I did not want the hillside overly cleared or stripped, as keeping the ecosystem intact was important to me, and Fernando listened carefully to exactly what I wanted. The crew worked incredibly efficiently, did an excellent job clearing the underbrush and ivy while preserving the natural feel of the hillside, hauled everything away, and left the entire property -- including the patio -- immaculate. I had wanted to get several ornamental trees trimmed at my rental property for a few months. They returned my call in a timely fashion and Fernando and I met at the property soon afterwards to assess and a few days later, the pruning was done by his son. I am very impressed in the quality of the trimming of my trees--they really know what they are doing. I am an avid gardener (hobby) and was concerned about "hack" jobs by unprofessional tree companies that would permanently disfigure the trees, so I was present the whole time the trimming occurred just in case. I'm sure they would have done a great job if I wasn't present. I highly recommend them and will use them again when needed. (they were recommended to me by 2 of my neighbors). read more

Original review from 1/11/19: Excellent Service at reasonable price. I had 2 oaks trimmed and several stumps removed. Fernando gave a good quote and even a neighbor said they did a great job on the trimming. They removed all the smaller branches so I did not have to clean them up and were kind enough to cut the larger pieces into firewood lengths for me. The stumps were removed well below grade - I think close to a foot below grade. Thank you for providing such great service. Just for some background I've managed an apartment complex and multiple properties in the Bay area for 4 years. My standard procedure is to have a vendor list but it's not uncommon to get multiple bids on a project. So this one is no different, grab a few bids for a single-home family unit front yard only (couple of trees, some minor work). He came in at $2,000 - nearly 3x the other 2 bids. When I asked how he got to this number he said he charges $450 an hour and my front yard is not easy work (I doubt he pays his workers anywhere near). The 40-foot canary palm in my backyard was looking shaggy, and badly in need of a cut and styling. Called around for estimates, which were all over the place (including one for $2-3K - for one palm tree?). Found BA Tree Service on Yelp, and they did a great job. Their website had before and after photos of canary palms the company had worked on recently and estimate was really fair. They arrived around 8 AM - 4 guys, a truck and a big chipper - and were done before noon. If you've never seen a palm tree cleaned up, it's awesome. One of the guys straps on a harness, and using spiked shoes scrambles up the tree like a monkey (with a chainsaw!). They trim off dead leaves on the underside, shave loose bark from the trunk, and shape the leaf stumps to look like a "pineapple". There were mounds of debris all over the lawn, but they cleaned everything up, so all good. They even rescued a poor squirrel that had lost its home after the trimming. Awww ... Palm tree looks all dolled up and ready for Hollywood. Trimming done efficiently, and worth every penny. read more

Anyone with a yard full of giant, old, dying/dead trees will no doubt eventually need a tree-cutting service. I called a number of local businesses; 3 responded out of many called. Estimates from everyone else were higher. These guys did the job, and more besides, and left the place looking great. I got 4 quotes from area businesses but settled on BATC because he seemed to care and understand how I was feeling. I can't tell you how pleased I am with their work. They did everything they said they would do, better than they said and more. The Owner of Bay Area Tree Care provided me an affordable quote to have two trees cut down to 2 ft stumps, have ivy removed, and trim my palm tree. The quote was originally for $1200, but the gentleman stated they were a family business and would like to provide me with a $200 discount so I would consider them for my future jobs as well. I am all about small businesses, so I appreciated his approach and hired his team to do the job. When I got home to see the work that had been done they had completely cut down the two trees leaving no stumps as per my request for the asthetics necessary for the yard, and the ivy had only been trimmed and not removed per the agreement. When the owner of Bay Area Tree Care came to collect his check I discussed my absolute disappointment in his men's performance, and direction. The owner apologized deeply and stated he would ensure that two stumps of good quality would be delivered to me within a week. I had called every week for the last month and every week he stated they would drop them off. Now the asthetics in the backyard are completely off, and I will need to spend a few hundred dollars to replace on my own. I would not recommend there services to anyone. read more
