I contacted Leo via Yelp and he quickly got back to me about my need to cut down a pine tree. He had time to come over when I called and was prompt. Assessed the situation and told me my options for tree removal, just a cut down or cut down + trunk removal. I opted for the latter. His price came in lower than someone else I had come and give me a quote, which I was surprised. My smallish pine tree (15 - 20 ft tall) was cut, stump removed, and cleaned up in 2.5 hours. Leo double checked if I wanted the hole to be left open where the stump was removed or cover it back up with dirt before they finished the project. I opted for them to cover the hole back up since I'm not ready to put in a new tree. I got a reference for Enrique, owner of Alvarado Tree Service, from a friend's gardener who is Enrique's brother-in-law. Enrique showed up later in the day when I first contacted him, looked at the 18-foot large tree I wanted him to cut including the roots, and gave me a reasonable verbal bid, and required no advance deposit. A few days later he showed up at 8 a.m. as agreed with three more men, a wood chipper, and a large stump grinder. The work was done professionally and safely, with all men wearing helmets and ear protection when operating loud machinery. From start to finish the experience has been both pleasant and satisfactory. There is a huge redwood on the border of my lot with a neighbor's and Enrique suggested that instead of removing the tree completely, reducing its height by 30% or more, and trimming large branches would cost significantly less than removing the entire tree, not counting the required reconstruction of adjoining fence and landscaping. If and when my neighbor and I agree on terms, Alvarado Tree Service will be the first hearing from me. read more

** The following review reflects my experience DURING the shelter-in-place order currently in effect. ** About a month prior to the current shelter-in-place order, I had been looking on Yelp for an arborist who could address a lot of overgrown trees on my property. I'm not the green thumb type, so there were branches jutting and foliage spreading in different directions, including some sturdy wisteria on a wooden arbor that found its way over the fence to my neighbor's yard. Leo came over and gave me a general estimate for the work and we settled on a date. Then COVID-19 hit hard... Over three months of mandatory social distancing elapsed, just enough time for not only the wisteria to get out of control but a huge cherry tree coming from other properties starting to encroach on ours. I reconnected with Leo, and within a week, he provided a new estimate for the work and gathered his crew to trim all the trees and clean up the foliage. Great service! Called Alvarado Tree Service on Sunday evening before the Memorial Day holiday. I thought I'd hear back after the holiday to discuss an estimate for a tree removal and tree topping. I received a call back almost immediately. Leo said he was available to come out that evening (Sunday) and provide an estimate. He as right on time, took a look at the two trees and provided a very reasonable estimate and said he'd let me know when he could get me into his schedule. Leo scheduled me for the following Thursday. As agreed, he and his crew arrived on time and prepared to do the work. They were fast and efficient. All the work was done to my satisfaction. We have a large property in Oakland, and we lost about 7 trees this year. Standing dead trees are a fire risk, and the best way to handle them is to cut them up and leave them on the ground, where they will rot naturally. Alavarado Tree Service GETS IT while other companies do not. Leo Alvarado knows the secret ingredient in the sauce. The secret ingredient is: responding in a timely fashion to emails/texts will win a customer over. I inquired two other five star rated companies for tree service but neither matched Leo's response rate. One company's bid was 300 dollars lower than Alvarado Tree Service, but never responded with a written estimate. The other company's representative said that he would get back to me in five to 10 minutes after I made the call. He called me two to three hours later. My interpretation was that he wasn't interested in my business. There is no excuse for a company not to get back to its customers in a timely fashion. It's not they are busy but rather the company doesn't place a high priority in its treatment of its customers. Based upon the reviews I read, I am sure that I would be satisfied with their services. But Alavarado Tree Service knows what it takes to get to the finish line. One item I forgot to mention when I originally wrote my remarks. Leo and his crew did not do a great job pruning our tree but left our front patio immaculate after the pruning. read more

In the past, I had a different tree company trim my 2 palm trees, but they raised their prices 50% since 2017, so I decided to reach out to a few companies on Yelp and get some estimates. I sent a few inquiry messages on Saturday night (3/23). Within minutes, I received a response from Leo and he said he would come to my house on Sunday to give me an estimate. That was unbelievable that someone would be so responsive ! His prices were good so we agreed that he would come the next Saturday (3/30) to trim the palm trees. He brought his crew and showed up at 7:30 am even though he told me they would be there at 8. They finished the job before noon and cleaned up all the debris. We hired them to remove a large pine from our property. He proactively contacted me at the beginning of the week to tell me which day his crew would be at our house. He showed up with his crew bright and early on the day he said he would. They came prepared with plywood and blankets to protect our house and stair railings from damage as they hauled out the tree. These guys are nothing short of amazing. I contacted them through YELP just as a storm was approaching and I was getting nervous about a very tall Monterey Pine tree stump in my backyard falling into my house. I got a call within a few hours and Manuel came out to assess the situation and give me a quote a few hours later. The price was very reasonable and three of their crew came out the next day in the pouring rain and took the whole thing down in chunks and cleaned up all the debris in about three hours. My ancient 90 ft tall cedar dropped 2 huge branches across the front steps weeks apart. Even though it had been pruned in the past. Potentially lethal if a person were underneath. Alvarado Tree did the urgent job promptly. They found 5 more cracked branches ready to fall, then had to cut back all the branches for safety. A third of the beautiful tree had to be removed. They were very careful of aesthetics, and the final results are the best looking possible considering what needed to be done, beautiful in places. Their price was decent for a big job.
