Took my first group class. Mindful Movement. It was challenging but doable. The instructor gently guided the class through the positions. I found myself relaxed and sweating at the same time. My doctor friend Zach and I have a 10am international flight departing from LAX to Manila and knowing the traffic at the airport, decided to beat the morning rush by leaving San Diego at 4:30am. This granted us an hour to hit the gym at this location - both close to the Hilton where we parked and the airport. He gave me a quick tour of this massive facility and at 6:30am, was already busy with moving, grunting, sweating bodies of all shapes and sizes. While I ran indoors on a treadmill, Zach opted for the pre-sunrise, cold weather outdoor run. We met up again at the free weight station. There was a lot of room and time for me to swing the 30lb kettlebell, do my pull-ups and dead-hangs without waiting and plenty of yoga mats to use for stretching and core exercises. If we had more time, the sauna would've been nice too, but I had some difficulties with the locker and had to wait for a few minutes for a front desk attendant to assist me. read more

We had our daughter's birthday party at the Bay Club El Segundo Clubhouse, and it was such a great experience! The space was perfect for our group of around 100 guests -- plenty of room for everyone to mingle and for the kids to run around. There were lots of fun areas for the little ones, including a bounce house and a loft area with game tables that my friends' kids called their "secret fun zone." Jinelle was amazing to work with -- super helpful, quick to answer all my questions, and a huge help with setup and cleanup. Everything ran so smoothly, and it made the day stress-free. Highly recommend hosting your kids' birthday party here -- it's spacious, fun, and the staff truly makes it easy! read more

We recently hosted my daughter's 5th birthday at the Kid's Clubhouse and we could not have had a better experience! The venue is incredibly clean, well organized and spacious. They offer activities for all ages (including parents!) that range from a Lego wall, basketball hoop, slide, bounce house, and foosball table. I appreciate that the cost included up to 100 guests, 30 minutes of set-up and 30 minutes of clean up, (which staff helps with!) and 2 hours of the venue. When planning the party, I worked directly with Jennifer Esquivel and it was an absolute dream! She was very responsive, friendly, and attentive! She scheduled a walk-through before our party to answer all my questions and also provided helpful suggestions. The day of the party was where she really shined though. She, along with her coworker, were at the party the entire time refilling snacks and drinks, getting the pizza delivery, setting up the cake, and so much more. Having their help allowed me to enjoy the party rather than worrying about all the small details. I highly recommend the Kid's Clubhouse and hope to plan another event there soon! read more

By way of update, recently joined 24Hour Fitness for a fraction of the cost, and everyone is nicer and more considerate. I have seen no loudmouth, entitled jerks trying to kick people out of exercise stations, or trying to bully people in the locker room or shower. To this day, I wonder if the ethnic makeup of my family was part of the reason for Bay Club's tolerance of the men who threatened my family, including in the lobby in front of staff, and then this staff refused our request to escort us to our car for safety. On the other hand, if you like loud, obnoxious MAGA banter, confrontational attitudes, and FOX News blaring in the locker room, this is the place for you. When it comes to Gyms in the South Bay, Bay Club El Segundo is top 2 and it's not 2. I write this to you, my dear reader, dripping in sweat on the spin bike near the Racquetball courts trying to lean out as much as possible before I leave for this Mexico trip tomorrow. I don't even know where to start with this review to be honest. So much to cover. It has been a staple of the community since it was the Sports Connect (or Sports Erect as the locals called it hehehe), then when it was Spectrum, and now Bay Club. I have been a fixture in here ever since the Spectrum days (2005ish) when I was cooking other 9 year olds at the School of Skillz camp that was running in the Clipper Gym, as the Clippers used to practice here. Summers in here used to be like a low budget all star game as there were 2 full indoor basketball courts. I've seen Derek Fisher, James Harden, Lisa Leslie, Andrew Bynum, Klay Thompson, Timofey Mozgov, Devin Fleming, all cook in here over the years, among many others. When Bay Club took ownership and removed one half of the basketball courts, they removed a piece of my soul with it. But that's okay, all good things must come to an end and there is beauty in that. When I lost the basketball bug my junior year of high school (due to getting cut from the basketball team haha) I coped by picking up the weights. The weight room in here is idyllic as there are plenty of bench presses, squat racks, machines, dumbbells, pull up bars, open spaces, etc. Seldom have I ever had to wait for a bench press in here, which is a luxury I didn't understand in my youth. That was a rude awakening when I got to college. Once I realized that girls really don't care about how your body looks as long as you are in decent shape, my passion for picking up weights and putting them down withered. I signed up for a half ironman because I figured I'm in the gym all this time, may as well put it towards some sort of end goal. I then did my 4 month crash course in ironman training in Bay Club, rotating from the olympic sized pool, to the spin bike, to the treadmill for 6 days a week. It was hell, but it was my chosen form of hell and I felt like a world champion when I completed that half ironman. All this to say, this place has seen this young chimp become a full grown gorilla and has been there for me through all 3 phases of my workout journey. What more could I possibly ask for in a gym? Oh you thought I was going to end this review without shouting out my boy Ray, who has been holding it down at the front desk for YEARS? Well think again, my dear reader. Ray used to have to kick us out of the gym when closing time came as we'd be begging "Please Ray it's next basket wins just one more basket" as he would stand there and begrudgingly oblige. Ray is honestly the best employee I could ever imagine, nothing gets by Ray. You wanna sneak a homie in when Ray isn't looking? GOOD LUCK. Very rude front desk by the childrens entrance. Most employees are nice letting parents walk through to grab their kids from the gym if the back door is closed, but one dark haired female is constantly a challenge. I get a "are you a member" and was told I had to wait outside until the class was finished if the gym door was closed. That is enough for me to never join. read more

Best gym in the area! They have an amazing facility but more so than anything is the amount of programs they have, and especially related to basketball! That's the big difference right there! They run their own gym league and have two different levels so you can pick the division that fits you! Lloyd is the athletic director and you can tell he really cares about providing the best gym experience! I've told several friends who were at equinox down the street and have canceled and joined the bay club! Highly recommend this gym over any in the area, it's not even close! read more

Great facility and fun, engaging classes! In particular, Neil Koehler's classes are my fave. He brings contagious energy and a Joie de vivre to his classes that make them enjoyable, while effective. He definitely has a fan base who attend his classes regularly (myself included!). His online classes literally got me through the pandemic. He's the best! Also try his Pilates classes!! This review is a summary of my wife's and my experience the Bay Club and why, after 12 years, we've left. Price increases. From Jan 2022, our rates (2 members) went up ~64%. Yup, 64%, even paying annually in advance. Since we joined in 2013, it's increased 100%. If you are not a regular gym rat (3-5x per week), the average cost per visit can be a bit daunting (if you miss a month for any reason, that's a nice gift on your part). There is a way to get a somewhat lower price. If you form a "pod" (max of 6), you can get a "family" plan rate. With 6, the lowest rate. This is great (and fair) for real families instead of paying max rates for everyone. But for people not in large families (i.e., my wife and I), to get the lowest rate, you need to recruit 4 people, collect their money and pay The Bay Club. If one person (or more) leave, well, your price goes up unless *you* recruit more. If pod members are late paying you, *you* still need to pay the full amount on time. If you are just 2 people, well, your membership just needs to pay more than a random group of 6. Sorry. Second, we've have had charges on our account by individuals at other Bay Clubs (Bay Area and Portland). This happened SIX times over 2 years. It was hard to get the staff to care and took repeated visits to clear the account charges (they literally said this is not our problem but the other clubs issue). My wife had to change the spelling of her last name in her membership in order to stop the charging because our club had *no* other solution. Hmmm. Third, my wife's locker recently got broken into and her wallet was stolen. Not a fun experience. Lastly, the gym dynamic has changed. The gym used to be adults, college age or higher, doing their workouts with space for everyone. With the new family plan in high gear, not just adult pods but families with teens (and their teen friends) are taking advantage. At times it seems like a high school has taken over the gym, especially on the basketball court and some workout areas. It's nice that the parents can drop off their kids in a safe environment, but other adults need to contend with the all the added overcrowding (plus the normal kid behavior). Even mid-day has started to get quite busy! What an odd combination of paying a lot more and getting a lot more crowded workout space. I can't post without mentioning why we stayed as long as we did. The Bay Club has many niceties for a gym. It's a huge space, and a wide variety of facilities, such as a lap pool, basketball court, multiple activity rooms. In the general workout rooms, there is a lot of equipment, of various type - it's a little surprising as to how many different types of equipment there can be, but they have it. This variety and scope had been a big reason why we were satisfied members for years and willing to accept the early price increases. The locker rooms are just okay (they are a bit on the old side but clean) but they do have a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. The final straw was getting that last bill with a 35% increase. Yesterday was our last day and no one from the Bay Club staff reached out to ask why we didn't re-up. It really feels like they don't value their members. Listen to your reviews Bay Club. The clubhouse was great to throw a birthday party/ it is large and also the amenities are clean. The parking was good at 2-5 pm, earlier it is busy but it gets better on Saturday. The main reason I am writing this review is the quality of service provided by Jennifer Esquivel and her team. We and our guests had a fantastic time at the clubhouse and we were blessed with memories for a lifetime . We appreciate Monica Bruno and the entire family team at the clubhouse. I think this place will bring you smiles for years to come if you do an event here. They really strive to provide the best experience possible, and they are great at communicating - it means the world to us to have such great experiences with such kind people. read more

Reformer Pilates with Neil Koehler is the best Pilates I have experienced having lived and practiced Pilates in 4 major cities in the US. Neil's approach, "Athletic Pilates" is always dynamic, never boring, and it works! I am stronger today than I have ever been. And he's funny and charming which helps when we're "feeling the burn." I've been a member a little over 2 years now. Joined after trying out every gym within a 15 minute drive. The value per dollar spent is unmatched versus competing gyms in the vicinity. This includes Equinox, smaller studio gyms, and crossfits. Never have to wait for equipment, towel service, tons of classes. If you read the lower rated reviews, they're typically older members lamenting the reduction in child care hours from 3 to 2, or some other obscure detail which other gyms do not offer anyway. They did raise their rates, but not above surrounding prices. I understand it's rough when you were previously anchored at a much lower price, but as long as it's less than the next nearest gym, you're still coming out ahead. On top of that, my wife and I held our baby shower in the child care area on a Saturday, with about 30 adults and 30 kids. We had plenty of room to spare and there was a ton of activities to keep the kids busy. Staff went above and beyond with making sure no kids exited the play area and checking in if we ever needed anything. read more

I joined bay club back in 2022 and my main reason was the childcare. They advertised their amazing 3 hours day childcare for kids 6 weeks and older and my 1.5 year old loved it back then and still adores it. I had another baby soon after that so now it's three of us on the membership and I do have to say that clubhouse the way that is now is absolutely amazing, my boys love it and they love all of the clubhouse team members and I absolutely love all of them. I love all the classes that bay club offers and am a daily visitor. I love working out so in those terms bay club has everything I need. Bathrooms are outdated but hopefully they have in plan to remodel them in the future. I did get very surprised with their multiple times a year price increases and honestly I am kind of holding by a thread here, convincing myself that is worth it but the recent update about upcoming childcare change is making me reconsider everything. I have 2 kids now and my little one does need his diaper changed and also needs a snack or his milk during his stay so the new 2 hour stay with no diaper change plus no food allowed is not going to work for me and we will most likely have to cancel our membership with bay club. It is very disappointing how much bay club has changed in these past two years. They used to market themselves to families and lure you in and sell you their memberships and everything would be magical and great and then they would raise their rates a couple of months later and then constantly actually show how much they didn't care about families. They got me on the childcare. Really nice facility for your kid, 3 hours, diaper changes, will give them snacks you provide...it was great for a couple months. I didn't have any issues with scheduling. Then they decided to change- 2 hours, no diaper changes and no snacks. To top it off, they charged me $10 MORE for my child(on top of increasing my monthly work out membership too). How does that make sense to charge more and then take away amenities? Also there seemed to be less availability. They also don't seem to pay their employees enough-I went with a friend to do a guest pass and I had called the day before to see the process was since I was new. We went and she showed her ID and he was going to let us go through, I asked about her signing the waiver and he was like "oh ya!" And then he proceeded to joke he can let my friend in without it and if she sues, just give him a cut, since they don't pay them enough. I know he was joking but not joking. But kind of an odd thing to say to a new member with a new guest. Parking is also a big hassle here. My last straw -I unfortunately had an issue with one of their employees and did not feel comfortable going anymore, so I tried to cancel my membership. Instead of being met with kindness and understanding-They would not cancel right away and told me I had to pay for an additional month as my last month. I kept telling them I did not feel comfortable going anymore and even begged them. Their policy to do this is so they "ensure a smooth and consistent transition for all members" for all members-when I am the only member on my account! It made no sense. The manager Ann is no help at all, I see there is a consistency with her responses to other members that have issues here. She just will "listen" but not do anything about it. Yesterday I went into the steam room with a man just sitting there butt naked. Came out of the steam and there was another man getting in the hot tub naked. Walked to my locker and another is brushing his teeth naked in front of the mirror. The nudity remains perverse daily within the mens locker room. It's disgustingly creepy because there are minors that enter into the locker room regularly. I talked to a representative here and they havent done one thing to change it. read more

The BayClub has become our home away from home. We have 5 children ages 6 months - 6 years old and the BayClub is an essential part of our family's lives. We joined 6 years ago and our kids have grown up in the kidsclub, swam in their amazing aquatics program, we are regulars in the group fitness classes, and indulge in self care at Cafe Vida and recovery room. The amenities are amazing, but the staff is what truly sets this place apart. Monica is the manager of the kids club and she has created such a fun place for kids to play, while parents unwind. She has a heart for caring for children and has hired an incredibly capable, caring staff. Vella and Josh who manage the front desk are well known and loved by all the kids and parents who come through the door. You can see how Karrie, the kids club lead and aquatics director genuinely cares about each child and just loves hanging out with them. There are too many wonderful staff members to name that take care of our children, but they are all so amazing. My husband and I toured other gym childcare centers and nothing even comes close to the kids program they have created at the BayClub El Segundo. Being swim safe has become a priority in our family. We experienced lots of other swim instructors from South Bay Aquatics to Begg Pool, but Jill is the best swim instructor we have found. Her years of experience are obvious with how she establishes trust with her students, teaching them to be confident and calm in the water. If you're looking for a quick, efficient workout take a BodyPump class with Marjolein or Megan. If you're looking to get strong go see Cyn or Cali. If you want to get your dance on get down with Nupeir or Tier. There are too many good classes to choose. From Thomas in management answering emails just minutes after we've sent them to Mike taking meticulous care of the complimentary coffee station, there are so many people that go above and beyond working here. For what they offer , which is mostly broken machines that have been out of service for weeks now , sauna broken for about a week. and dirty machines with sweat marks. You can go to 24hr in MB and it's probly better. the workers are not friendly (mostly) . This place needs better machines that don't creek when ur using them or are ripping. it's always busy and most time can't use the machines you want. they need to actully work and improve on the quality of this gym and then the prices going up will actully make sense. The cardio hoops class reminds me of basketball practice (that's a great thing) best workout I've had in years! It's clear they care about basketball and that hasn't always been the case here. I recently joined BC in El Segundo before summer and yes it is pricey but I workout consistently everyday and sometimes twice a day. I consider for the amount I train and the equipment they offer that it's pretty good. I hope with the remodel we can see new equipment. I appreciate the "booty builder" equipment, good job BC! I'd like to suggest an Ant Tib machine to work the shins, please. For me, I definitely get my $$$$ worth. The gym is clean and always stocked with fresh clean towels. Plenty of stations that provide chemical free cleaning spray to clean after using equipment. Just wanted to thank the gym and keep up the good work! By the way, I'd love to have someone come in once a month or so to offer sound bath for stress relief too! read more

This place is very crowded, outrageously expensive, even before a 50% membership increase next month, members have to wait for a spot in the stretching area, there are two rows of people on benches in front of the mirrors desperately trying to see their exercise form in the mirror :). It is difficult to find a parking spot after 5pm. It used to be a much better club there before the Bay Club bought it. I am not "enjoying your club" :) - I visited the Bay Club a few times on a guest pass to decide whether to join it or not. If the Bay Club was brazen enough to raise membership dues to 50% in just one increase, how to be sure that it does not happen again in a year? It looks like this overcrowded (quantity over quality) and overly expensive club thinks that they are a country club! :). I talked to a few members of this club on my visits asking if they like this gym to help me decide on a membership and some told me that they are planning on NOT RENEW their membership and go elsewhere. Since December 2020, Bay Club El Segundo has opened up three large pavilions under awnings with areas for weights and weight machines, fitness classes, and cardio equipment. There is plenty of fresh air and stations for disinfectant wipes and sprays. The staff regularly attends to the equipment, keeping them clean. As you enter, they check your temperature and make sure that you are wearing masks. Just outside is an outdoor lounge area. You can access the locker rooms, but the pool and saunas are still closed. I really like these pavilions to vary my exercise routine, as there is only so much that I can do at home. There is plenty of parking adjacent to the fitness areas. You can even reserve times on the online Bay Club app. Do stop by if you can! read more
