I started at Game Time Strength about a month and a half ago, and I love it. It's everything I want in a gym and nothing that I don't. As someone who hadn't lifted weights in decades, I was honestly nervous about starting again in my 50s. From day one, everything exceeded my expectations. Their commitment to proper form and technique creates a very safe place to train. Each session builds on the last, so you feel progress without feeling overwhelmed. The biggest compliment I can give is this: I genuinely look forward to my training sessions. A lot more than I ever expected. I'm getting stronger, my mobility is improving, and I feel better overall. I also love that they have multiple locations nearby and a ton of training days and times. They make it about as easy as it gets to stay consistent. And another bonus: dogs. On most days, one of the trainers has their dog there. I have been a member for 5 months now and I have nothing but positive things to say about GTS. They really care about providing a great experience to their members. I checked out Equinox, Planet Fitness, 24 hour fitness, and have been a member at other local gyms. If your focus is getting your work in and learning proper form you won't find a better deal. Overall: The best gym. Very good price given what you get. Their session cancellation and unused pass policy is very generous. All of the instructors are top notch and very nice people. No gym bros here. As a female, I really appreciate the friendly but focused atmosphere. Master Classes: Excellent. They will teach you proper form to get the max strength out of you while preventing injury. If you have a past injury, they will show you tips to still be able to train (I had an injury from before I started going to this gym). So far, I have taken the Day 1 and Day 2 master classes. I have knee problems from before and I found it unbelievable that with their instruction I was able to do full proper squats. Atmosphere/occupancy: Also excellent. I've never had to wait for any squat racks ever. There have been times when I'm the only one in the gym, especially early in the morning. They have a good mix of machines and I've always been able to make it work what they have. Everyone is very courteous. If there's any equipment that's malfunctioning I just have to send a text to the owners and they address it right away. Other members: People are usually minding their own business, but everyone is polite and considerate. Most people will give you a wave or nod if you're working out during the open gym. Owner/Coaches: Jason, the owner, is great. Again, my experience is that he is focused on providing the best experience for the members. He is a great coach and is very knowledgeable about form and the mechanics of strength training. Genuinely one of the worst experiences I've ever had being trained at a gym. GTS are fine the Torrance location has nice staff and a ok vibe, but here was horrible. My trainer spent more time talking about his new and frankly awful leg tattoo of a plate of meat and trying to flirt with another gym goer, I felt insulted, I left feeling not worked out at all and when I complained about it to Coach Kelske I got told that "there were some crossed wires" with no apology or anything. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I struggled to keep my attendance up at Torrance with Phil and Alex who are awesome. I wanted to write this review after being back in training for the last 10 months and express what a shame it was that one hour completely ruined my opinion of this business. read more

I have really enjoyed my experience training at GTS so far. The structured programming takes the guesswork out of workouts for me. Having my sessions planned out ahead of time with a checklist to cross items off allows me to fully focus on my training without being overwhelmed by decisions. I appreciate how the trainer makes workouts interactive by incorporating the whiteboard - it's fun to see my progress tracked visually. Coming from larger commercial gyms, I found the environment at GTS to be less intimidating. With fewer people around, I don't feel as self-conscious or like I don't belong. The small class sizes also ensure I get individualized attention to learn proper form. My trainer has done a great job easing me into training at a comfortable pace to build sustainable habits. I've been a lifelong gym goer but since joining GTS 9ish months ago I've made more progress in every single area (strength, form, physique) than I have in all my years training combined. the trainers are amazing - see my review of the westchester location - but let me talk about the equipment. there are a ton of power racks in this OG location and the other locations. plenty of benches. leg press, leg curl/extension machine, multiple cable machines, assisted pull ups (at the westchester location - but you get access to them all), and all the dumbbells/kettlebells you'll ever need. they have a bunch of additional equipment too for warmups and functional training like bands, ab wheels, sleeves, etc. basically this gym is loaded with equipment and whether you use one of their programs or do it yourself, you'll have all the equipment you need to get an awesome workout! read more

Prior to joining, I'd have on/off gym memberships, or workout at home, but never felt like I was making much progress or really knew what I was doing - this has completely changed at GTS. The coaches here are incredible, amazing teachers, and set you on a path that works. I've never felt more confident, strong, or had as much fun at a gym before. I know the pictures can look a little intimidating (I felt the same way - big folks throwing big weight around), but there's all sorts of folks working out here (varying experience levels, etc), and the vibe is super light/chill. Having done home workouts my whole life (pilates, bodyweight training, HIT), I was looking for a gym that can specifically teach me how to safely lift heavy with correct form paired with a tried-and-true program that can help me reach my fitness goals. Jumped on a call with Jason after finding GTS through yelp, and I chose to enroll in the 3 day bootcamp to get the basics down. Jason is incredibly kind, open-minded, and knowledgeable. As a female, I always found gyms intimidating, but GTS feels like a home gym. You can reserve a spot at almost any time of the day, go to any of the 3 gym locations, and you will be guaranteed a station to complete your workout in peace. This is a great gym ya'll. I used to train at Horn Strength (which is now owned by Game Time) and have been at Game Time for 2 months. The programming is wonderfully balanced with good amount of variety to keep things fun. You get to learn badass powerlifting moves, but you also get conditioning/accessory days. You just go the gym and find your programming is ready for you on your phone app. They also have screens displaying your programming for easy reference. Everyone is friendly and moderately social but it doesn't feel cliquey. It's also minimally bro-ey. I've noticed a lot of women come to this gym which is always a good sign. I like the warmups Jason taught me because they keep everything firing nice. I don't feel scared of getting injured while lifting. He is really observant and good at identifying small adjustments that need to be made to my lifts and I feel respected. The Gym doesn't get crowded (but can be busy sometimes). The group training is reservation based, which means you won't be ignored by your coaches and you can find your little corner with your own squat rack/bench to complete your workouts. You will find 1-3 very cute dogs roaming the gym ready to help with morale. If you're not feeling social there are 2 others facilities to choose from other than Four Star and one of them (next for Four Star) doesn't hold group trainings so if you're a lone wolf you pretty much get a whole room for yourself. There's complimentary coffee which saves lives. My butt looks great. read more

This gym is solid! You can book time through their app and never have to worry about waiting for a squat rack or bench. You can sign up for an open gym membership, but if you're serious about getting stronger, I highly recommend getting started on the customized strength training program. The programming has been really good--a serious strength program with some bodybuilding mixed in too.The have a powerlifting pedigree, but I've seen all types of athletes train there. It's class based with roaming trainers, usually 1 trainer per 1 or 2 people. Basically, you get personal training/coaching but the class format makes it way more affordable and accessible. Jason also puts on nutrition workshops if you're interested in dialing in your macros or want to get some good recipes. They can also work around a lot of injuries or limitations you might be dealing with. This past year, I found out I'm developing some osteoarthritis in my knees. Jason was super helpful in helping me workaround it. I'm back to squatting again pain free. It's tough to find a good barbell gym in Los Angeles that you don't have to worry about tripping over someone's camera equipment . Take advantage of this place, it's a gem! read more

I loved loved loved training at GTS. J, Phil & Dennis were all amazing coaches and in the brief 2 months I was there I noticed huge improvements in my strength. Jason (j) really knows what he's talking about, and his knowledge of biomechanics and lifting safely and heavily is ridiculous. Crazy how minor tweaks in my form made huge differences! If you're looking to make huge improvements in your strength game and want to be around more like minded power lifters and weight lift enthusiasts this is the gym for you! I've been a career competitive rowing coach for the last 27 years, I've worked with many great strength coaches and worked inside many strength training facilities. GTS is a well run and professional organization with coaches who are experienced, educated, and absolutely know what they are doing. In my case they have been very patient with an older guy trying to claw back into some semblance of strength and mobility. I trained with GTS at this location for 3 years, back in 2013-2016. And now I'm back. Since that time I've been to several other bodybuilding, powerlifting and one commercial gym. There is nothing like the training at GTS! Kelske, the owner, is gifted in his program design and his eye for good form. If you want to learn to lift or if you already lift but have form issues, he's the guy you need. If you're overweight or nursing an injury or just feeling really insecure about your body and abilities, this is also the place for you!
