We were traveling by golf cart, so I thought it was neat that we could drive right into the park. The signage was fairly easy to follow, and we followed the signs to the beach. They have lockers, bathrooms, and a snack/bar shack. You can't bring your own alcohol in, but they do sell beer and wine coolers. There are picnic tables in a mostly shaded area, as well as a few showers to rinse the sand off. We went a little farther down the beach and jumped in! The beach was really nice, but be warned, it's super rocky. I'm originally from Cape Cod, so my feet are used to that kind of terrain, but my husband... not so much! We spent maybe an hour here before continuing on our golf cart journey, but we definitely feel it's worth a stop if you're looking to cool down. The water was much more pleasant than some of the other beaches we visited that day, where there was a pretty strong smell. Honestly, a lot of the beaches had the stench of intestinal rot from a labyrinth! So if you're spending the day in Key West and want somewhere to cool off, Fort Zachary State Park is worth checking out!

I am so glad we did!! After an incredibly stressful year, it was great to see my husband enjoying himself so much! This was definitely the highlight of his Key West trip! We were the second seaplane to land so we practically had the island to ourselves (other than the few people that had camped overnight). It was amazing wandering the fort, snorkeling (him, not me), and just enjoying the spectacular views with very few people around. It's free, but they do request a donation that is voluntary! There was a kind woman sitting at the desk who gave us a map, and explained their history briefly. It's a beautiful place to stop in and visit, with their butterfly garden and orchid arbor stealing the show. Bathrooms were very clean as well.

So obviously I am going to give this Key West cultural landmark and plaza 5 stars because IT SHARES MY NAME!! Like many others have said, this is a tourist hot spot with lots of beachy shopping, restaurants, and museums. My dad made sure to take lots of photos of me by my namesake plaza while we visited Key West on family trips back when I was a kid. I wasn't so enthused to pose back then but I am now as an adult!! Mallory isn't a common name so I have a biased opinion of anything or anyone that is named Mallory. I can't wait to come back and get even more time in MY square! :)

It's just a short boardwalk amongst the trees that walks you out to the ocean. On the way you will encounter some wetlands and mangroves. If the city paid a little more attention to it, the space has potential. It looks ignored but with a little trimming and trash collection, this place could transform. I did encounter a gorgeous heron while taking in the view.

But the saving grace is as you approach the beach... Palms Trees and Seagrapes and the lovely arrival to the beach view (it's what made the visit worthwhile). There are small shaded tables on the side inside the grounds to drop all the beach bags and coolers and most of the play equipment is for climbing and balancing. We arrived right before sun down and the water was choppy with the rising tide but it was such an amazing sight to see the fishing boats arriving back to shore.

True facts…read more Clarence Higgs Memorial Beach is an artificial beach and is really the only beach on the island besides Fort Zachary Taylor Park. Clarence Higgs beach is more of your traditional beach vacation where you can rent umbrellas and towels, play beach volleyball (there are only two courts), rent kayaks and snorkeling gear. The downside is that it isn't as picturesque as Fort Zachary Taylor Park. But that park doesn't really have any amenities. Overall, it's a decent beach. As the only traditional beach vacation spot on the island, though, it's going to be on your Key West itinerary at some point I hope.

Justin was SO nice and communicative and gave us reccs for our trip. Pro tip I asked him advice on the best day for us to book with him weather-wise and he sent us really fancy weather charts so I knew he's the real deal! Saving best for last: we caught SO MANY FISH. SOOO many!! We took the fish to two different restaurants to prepare it for us to eat. So fun. Justin is an absolute blast.

It was wonderful that he fillet the fish for us, right there, so we could take it to a restaurant and they cooked it for us for dinner! Not much to say…read more Small park, but surprisingly, it has everything you need all crammed into a tiny space. It has a community center, workout stations, playground, and basketball court. Super quiet -it is never busy. There are a few parking spots, but there is also street parking.
