MARVIN KEY Longitude: -81.6445331 Latitude: 24.7115303 If you're wondering where all the locals disappear to on weekends, chances are if they know someone with a motor boat, they are at Marvin Key. This is a popular locals island and sandbar in the outback area off the lower Florida Keys. The only way to get here is by boat. Having had the opportunity to go here a few times already, it is absolute paradise. The sandbars are quite large around the island for walking, kayaking or just wading in the water with your beach chair and a beverage. You can also stroll along the shore with picture opportunities at every turn. Make sure you pack plenty of water, sunscreen, your noodles and even an umbrella if you plan on spending the day. It is not uncommon for waders to visit from boat to boat, so you just may meet some new friends along the way. The age range for visitors at Marvin Key is around 35 and up. The 35 and younger single crowd tend to migrate to Snipes Key which is in the general vicinity. Just like many of the other outback islands and sandbars around the Keys, knowing the area and navigation is crucial to avoid running aground, getting stuck, and most importantly, preventing damage to our reefs and ecosystem. Had an absolute blast on the marathon lady today for their morning charter from 8:30 am until 12:30…read morepm. Captain Craig and the two Jakes were amazing. They helped with baiting the hooks, unhooking the catches, cleaning the fish, and providing unparalleled entertainment. We couldn't have asked for a better day on the water, the fish were biting and the weather was absolutely perfect. The captain kept putting us right on the fish and we ended the trip with plenty to bring to a restaurant for a hook and cook dinner. I can't recommend this place enough, the price is right and the people running it and keeping it going are great. The captain even let us know when a pod of dolphins were nearby so we could enjoy seeing them! Such an unexpected and great bonus to the day! It is BYOB if you want, but onboard they do have some beverages and snacks for purchase (cash only on board), but we brought our own which worked out well. Tickets can be purchased with debit or credit cards, but cash on board is king for drinks/snacks, tips, and fish cleaning so make sure to bring some cash for your day on the water! If you're in the middle keys and want a great value for a fishing trip without a full charter, this is the best there is and totally worth it.

The bite was very slow all around, but more importantly we felt like they weren't putting in any effort. Asked around and everyone we talked to said they heard they have really went down hill. We went on another boat out of Islamorada last month and the boat limited out super early and everyone went home happy. We had fun catching a variety of fish, including mahi mahi, Bonita, one little tuna and the biggie: a white marlin, which was an unexpected surprise for us all and the highlight of our outing. Jesse worked tirelessly the entire time and it was an overall fantastic day. Once we returned back to the dock, he filleted our mahi for us and we took it over to Kaya Island eats per his recommendation which was the perfect end to a fun, tiring but successful day on the water. We always wonder because one year it's nice and relaxing and another year it's overgrown with weeds and kind of sad. I remember when it had no parking (limited to parking on Old State Road 4A), and nowadays it has a parking lot and it's landscaped and it's pretty clean. Nonetheless the place is nice... and I cherish the memories I have of this place.
