My elderly stepfather returned to this facility recently after being there nine months ago. This experience has been a nightmare. Communication is practically nonexistent. Both my sister and I left repeated voicemails and emails for the head of nursing, the facility, Director, and the social workers, barely any responses When we did manage to get someone on the phone we were met with rudeness and hostility. My stepfather began vomiting and having diarrhea on a Wednesday. He was weak, and we could tell something was seriously wrong. Unfortunately, we have autoimmune disorder so we could not go in in person. It took until Friday to get a clear update, and even then, we had to push hard just to speak to someone. I told the head of nursing who was struggling to breathe, she argued with me saying His labs and his chest x-ray looked good and insisted he was stable. I asked if they had done a Covid and/or flu test. She dismiss the idea entirely. Only after I demanded testing did they run one, and guess what? Positive for Covid even then they resisted transferring him to the hospital until we threatened legal action. He was finally moved, and once there, we learned he had a collapsed lung and was admitted directly into the ICU. The head of nursing casually told me she doesn't return calls because she has approximately 157 patients and they're short staffed. That's just unprofessional, not to mention dangerous I would never send another loved one here. What was once a decent facility is now a place I wouldn't trust with anyone's care. Absolutely heartbreaking and unacceptable .

The nurses and staff are horribly overworked and understaffed. People come here from the hospital, often taking new drugs and with new problems, and they just shove oxycontin in them for pain and ignore the problems. Staff was nice when I was around, but the moment family was gone, my parent would be left for hours unchanged and unattended, until they had soiled their clothes and the bed or wheelchair. Repeatedly. The food here is inedible. They told me they were working on it, but in the weeks we were there, it got worse and worse. When my parent had a backslide on PT because of surgery, they gave us one week to get out. I know that this is normal, but it is not right. Ultimately, I'm glad we got them out, they are doing much better now. But the people at Palm Garden were not kind or caring.

Other facilities have a common laundry, at one place, two per floor and two washers and two dryers (occasionally non-working) and it is often difficult to get a machine. There is no exorbitant fee you pay at entrance as there is at some other facilities. (Not usually given the name, Entrance Fee, of course.) Coral Oaks requires only monthly rent and that is all that is gone should you choose to move.

It has a 4/5 rating on the CMS Quality Rating Scale (which Medicare gives a facility after their regular inspections) and the pictures on their website show beautiful floors and a nice PT facility; however, my experience was most unsatisfactory. I was admitted from the hospital (August 2025) to regain strength following surgery and before returning home. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a concierge who rudely commented on my clothes, stating that if they didn't have my name on them, they would be donated. This left a negative first impression as all my belongings were taken away for tagging. In my opinion, the facility's living conditions were subpar, with cramped and uncomfortable rooms. There were two patients per room with little storage for personal items. The one chair per bed for visitors was filled with supplies. My visitors had to edge sideways past the end of my roommate's bed to reach mine only to then stand due to lack of seating. Walkers had to be maneuvered to open the door to the bathroom, enter, and close the door. Cleanliness was also a concern, particularly in the bathroom. I had specific requirements for toileting and an assisted clean-up rarely occurred afterward (for me or the bathroom floor.) I was a resident for 3 days and did not have a change of sheets or help with personal hygiene. My dietary needs were disregarded; I was supposed to be on a high-protein diet to aid my recovery but was given no choices. The meals provided were abysmal, and I'm attaching some pictures to illustrate the poor quality. Everyone received the same meals, and mine often went uneaten.. On the third day, I woke up in excruciating pain in my shoulders, rating it a 10/10. I was unable to push the call button due to pain; my roommate wheeled herself into the hall and yelled for help. She was told that many people were in pain. Several minutes later, a staff member came into the room asking about my last pain medication dose. Barely able to respond, I said, "I don't know," while she stood there. Frustrated, I told her to get help or I would call 911. She didn't respond, so I struggled to dial the 3 digits. EMTs arrived to remove me to a hospital. The whole experience was disappointing and detrimental to my recovery. I believe Westchester Gardens did not provide the quality of care or the supportive environment that someone in rehabilitation requires and deserves.

You didn't specify which one your mother was in. Our encounter was with the assisted living section. If your mom was in assisted living, I am hopeful that my critical online review of my mother's stay at Stratford ALF, and her passing away as a result of their substandard care, resulted in the facility making changes to improve their deficiencies.   Above all, I want to see families' loved ones receive the quality care they rightfully deserve. They helped us in every way to make the atmosphere feel right at home by giving us the ability to make it "her room." I have never found a reason to speak negatively upon how they treated us here at Stratford Court. They give a type of personal attention that made our family rest easier every time we left. I am truly grateful for all the incredible service that they provide and hope that you can see that myself, as well as others, have a positive experience from joining the Stratford residence.
