I can't say enough about Mease Dunedin Hospital, I was treated like a king...5 stars for sure.

I was very disappointed with the level of service my husband received while in the ICU for critically high blood pressure. The nurses were ok, but for being in the ICU I would have thought my husband would have had more around the clock care. This was not the case at all. The several doctors that treated for him were not on the same page and would only pop in to see him maybe once a day for the 6 days he was there. One doctor told him he was safe to be removed from his IV and could roam the hallways to confirm he was safe to go home. While the critical care doctor came in yelled at my husband (who is a patient only doing what the doctors/nurses have told him) and then he yelled at the nurse for pulling him off the IV and allowing him to get up and walk. The doctor then put him back on the IV and he was stationed to bed in the ICU for another 48 hours. Fortunately, the charge nurse was very apologetic however at this point we were already frustrated with the lack of communication on the doctor's part. My husband left still without clarity on why his blood pressure was so high after days in the ICU and several tests, scans, and blood work. My husband will have to refer to his PCP for next steps to avoid this from happening again. Additionally, BayCare should look at having a pharmacy in the hospital for patients being discharge, as my husband was discharged in the early afternoon and then immediately had to run to his pharmacy outside of the hospital to get his medication that he needed to take that night. If my husband was elderly or unable to drive, how would he have gotten his prescription? He would have had to rely on family or friends to get his medication for him. Not all patients have this luxury. BayCare, you need to do better!! read more

10 Stars ! Let me tell you. This is the best hospital I have ever been to in my life and I am almost 52 ! The Doctors, Nurses, everyone is so dang nice in there. They know what they are doing !!!!! Super clean and updated facility, even the outside is beautiful! They made me feel welcome and took care of my needs immediately!! Jake and Mark were also very nice. when driving up to emergency I told the guard that I needed someone to come help my husband into the hospital because he needed help due to having a knee replacement just the day before. his blood pressure was too high so his primary said to go to Emergency at the hospital The guard pointed to a wheelchair and said use that. I said are you joking me ? you want me to try to get him into a wheelchair out of our vehicle and get to the emergency desk to check in? He's 6'2 and weights 180 lbs??? Nobody came so I got the wheelchair and got him in and after several episodes of hitting the opening door with his newly operated leg ....we made it in. Then we were told to go into the waiting room . I tried to push the wheelchair and it got locked somehow and I could not push him Again I asked for help but help again No. there was a cleaning girl in the lobby she was about to come help but my husband found the lock and unlocked it. needless to say I guess the only way they help you into emergency is if you call 911 and have an ambulance bring you. ‍ read more

Been to the ER twice and after thorough testing, they diagnosed me spot on, set a plan, and had me back on track! This time I had a 3 day stay with a team of Angels made up of Nurses and Techs, Support Staff and Admin who were the best caregivers ever! I know as I've been to hell and back! It was the best experience of what could have been heavy on the nerves. I have no negatives waves at all. I was placed on a low fat diet with carb limitations and they tracked it at every service. My appetite wasn't at 100% yet everything I tasted was good. The Bourbon Glazed Salmon and Lemon Cod stood out. The Nurses checked on me regularly and kept my meds on schedule. Honestly used to be able to come to this hospital with no problems nor complaints. I'm normally one to typically refrain from even going to hospitals especially for things that can be treated at home. I was recently seen in this ER and I can honestly say I was beyond disappointed with the service I received. I was in the ER for possible sun poisoning, not only was the receptionist working practically making fun of me for my symptoms as to why I was there she seemed slightly incompetent as if she didn't know how to "word" my reasoning for being there. Once called back, I was sat on a stretcher in the middle of the hallway (ok ER is a busy place, no big deal) but the PA on duty came to kind of go over my symptoms with me, she had me take of the hoodie I was wearing (to keep my burn out of the sun/heat) she then looked at my sunburns and said "are you able to eat and hydrate?" I said "yes, for the most part", she then followed up by saying "well that's not sun poisoning then" , once touching on my burns she then stated "ok looks like it could be MILD sun poisoning, and 1st degree burn" ( at this point I'm thinking to myself is it, or is it not?). Fast forward to today, I work in a pediatricians office, i have since then formed very bad blisters on one of my shoulders and they have progressively gotten worse since my ER visit over the weekend, I have one of the physicians at my job look at my arm and he then informs me it's NOT a 1st degree burn, due to the swelling and enormous oozing blisters on my arm that it was 2nd degree burn, and should have been treated right away. Instead of receiving proper treatment, I feel as if I was incorrectly evaluated, the PA who examined me seemed to be in such a rush, I was sent home with no medications, nor topicals, and instead advised to basically put nothing on it. Overall, my visit to the ER with this hospital has pretty much been a bandaid fix for a much more serious problem. I hate to even leave such a review, because I'm truly not a Karen and absolutely love Baycare, but this was by far the worst ER visit I've ever had. read more

I came in the emergency room for unfortunate reasons but the quality of service was amazing and fast! They were able to diagnose the main reason in about an hour and then transferred me to a private room. Very clean and actually cleaned everyday, most of the food pictured was good. I have had a few occasions in hospital and they have been nightmarish to say the least! Some of the nursing staff are abusive and negligent in caring for patients. In the 4 days I was there recently, a charge nurse wouldn't give me a second to explain my needs, she brushed me off yelling at me "I have bigger things to take care of right now than your meds,you'll wait until I finish with my other patients! Sometimes I would just need more water, a tech coul have gotten it, but somehow the charge nurse butted in and said tge tech was busy, just wait! She was argumentative and jumped down everything I said, as if she just wanted to upset me. The last day there, she not only yelled at me, but also my sweet husband and finally, when she kept talking (yelling) over us, my husband raised his voice telling her to let us talk. She called hospital security, threatened to call police and put us in jail! This wasn't the first time nurses have done this to me or other patients! I've been witness to the same treatment of several room mates and heard the horror accounts of this type of bullying from some of my family and neighbors. This is cruel treatment and it has to stop! I urge other's to report these incidents, don't let this go unpunished! They could have caused me ir my husband a stroke or heart attack! I did have one super nice RN, she worked the night shift and was diligent in making sure I was comfortable with meds and had plenty of water to keep hydrated. By the way, that charge nurse did indeed call the police, who came in threatening us, said if we didn't leave immediately, they would arrest us and put us in county jail! My husband is in his late 80's, frail and I'm still suffering an undiagnosed head injury! I'd call this elder abuse! read more

I needed to be seen for an emergent medical issue while visiting in Florida. My wife and I were blessed to be close to the Mease Dunedin Hospital Emergency Room (ER) at the time. From the moment we walked into the ER we were treated by caring professionals. They listened to our concerns and immediately took us in and began treating the issue quickly and efficiently. Dr. Mark Chappell, Nurses Tammy, Meghan and the entire team were phenomenal. They kept us informed as to the status and results of the tests they were conducting, and explained everything in simple understandable terms. Be very careful when booking a procedure at Mease Dunedin Hospital. I recently need a full body CT scan. When I called I asked if my insurance was accepted and was told that, yes, it was. Well guess what? It turns out my insurance was "out of network". This was a very disingenuous. They knew they would get some money from my insurance company and they did. The bad part is that the remaining $3500 was left for me to pay. When I called Baycare to inquire about this they told me it was my responsibility to know if i was covered or not even though I was told on the phone by the receptionist that I was covered. Well, I am what you'd call a frequent flier at Mease Dunedin. I have Epilepsy and Ulcerative Colitis so needless to say, I am there a lot. Unfortunately, I hit my head the other day and was made to come to the ER. I was fine. Just a little bump on the head. I ended up signing out AMA because I don't have insurance. However, the PA I saw and the RNs and the techs were out of this world nice. I was so embarrassed because I was just there six months ago (I had a seizure and broke my neck) but the staff assured me there was absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about and treated me like family. I live in Dunedin, and I am so thankful that I do. The hospital is .4 miles from my house and it is a Blessing. Thank you Mease Dunedin!!!!! read more

Do yourself a favor and NEVER go to this hospital for emergency room visits. Lets the nurses sit there doing nothing but their regular jobs, trust me, find another place and perhaps get an understanding of what you will be charged before going through with emergency care. I was in a the most extreme amount of tooth pain one Sunday evening at 11pm, I decided to go to this hospital because it was unbearable and I did not know what else to do. In the end, I was only there for 21 minutes total, had a doctor look at to ensure nothing BAD was happening. They gave me Advil and a prescription for anti biotics and sent me on my way to see the dentist as soon as possible. Now, I have insurance, for 25+ years, since this visit I have been billed $700 balance of the $3000 total of this visit that insurance doesn't cover. 21 minutes....barely even needed to clean the room I was in after I left. Our insurance system is horrible and disgusting, yes, but I have never been charged like this in my entire life of dealing with minor issues and frankly, they are all corrupt... every last person who is associated with the billing process. How do they sleep at night. I can pay this, and will on my own time. I am sure there are many who cannot. Go somewhere else. read more

I went to the ER on Saturday night around 10:30 because I had chest pain and felt dizzy. It was surprisingly quieter a Saturday night but I was happy with that. I was seen immediately, everyone from the intake desk to the nurses and techs while in the ER were great, couldn't have been nicer or more efficient. I was admitted for observation due to the chest pain and moved to the floor in good time. All the nurses and doctors were very good all through the night. Hats off to nurses Nardia and Adele, hematology representative Cludia, also Dr. Hakki and Dr. Junaid. My only problem was the length of time it took to be released. I waited over 2 hours for a release while I went stir-crazy in a room with the door closed. read more

Just spent five days in hospital relegated to bed for low sodium diagnosis. Had heard good things about Mease Dunedin. After personal experience, I disagree. Most of nurses and doctors were ok, few aides. So much bureaucracy and mis communication!! They would take my blood day and night so I had severely disturbed sleep. Don't think blood changes in three hours. Their bed was incredibly uncomfortable. I was like a pretzel. And the pillows about 3 inches high. Tv miserable. 100 useless channels whose monitor numbers did not work. Food awful. Bed-Bath meant "here's the soaped face towel, do your own". I could write a book with anecdotes but for now I just hope to God I never end up there. read more

I've had a very complicated hip revision/total replacement and a total knee replacement at Mease Dunedin Hospital. I could not be any happier with these two experiances nor any more satisfied with the results. The staff is fabulous from entry to exit. The food was even superior to anything I've even seen in a hospital (a menu of choices just like you'd get in a resturant). I tell everyone I know, I have experiance 5 other hositals from Brooksville to Tampa, hands down Mease Dunedin is the best of the best in patient care and comfort read more

This place is a joke. For the love of god make your loved ones go to a different hospital. I had to go after falling between my boat and dock and had sun stroke on top of it. When I fell my legs got cut up on the barnacles and after three times asking my cuts to get tended to I was handed a single packaged alcohol wipe to do it myself about an hour later. First they should have cleaned it themselves. Second I should have gotten a tetanus booster which was never offered. My clothes obviously soaked were bunched into a ball so when left were still soaked. After getting three ivs I needed to urinate. Told the nurse I think the needle will rip out she insisted it was fine. When it started to bend she finally took me seriously. I didn't have my insurance card with me but told them I'll be back in a few hours they said just wait for the bills then tell them. I still returned a few hours later with insurance and the didn't even want to scan it in. They are a bottom of the barrel operation. I could tell you much more but hopefully you get the point. Hate this hospital and always have.. It's all over medication. I had my 14th total knee replacement surgery on my right knee. Well one time after getting pain medication, I went to the bathroom. Either pee my pants or go, so I went like 10 minutes after getting my medication. After that they crushed all my medication. Well I spoke to some high class lady (supposedly) and she said it would not follow me around. Well I left there w/a PICC line to go to a rehab center. They were crushing them there also bc hospital told them to. I'll tell you what, I blew up. Called my PCP and got it stopped at rehab center and it will continue each and every time I go to this hospital, or ANY Bay Care Hospital.. That's why I NO longer have any of my friends or family go to ANY Bay Care Facilities.. read more

My wife was admitted to Mease Duneden hospital for mental health reasons. They transferred her to another facility further away but did not inform me of her transfer! Is this Baycare Quality care! They had my cell phone and Home phone number but failed to notify me! Totally discusted with Administration at this facility! I got delivered here on a stretcher as my lower spine finally gave way and left me in a terrible state. For the longest time I was barely given acknowledgement that I have a real problem and the folks here took me seriously, treated me like a human being in serious need and helped me. Their resources are outstanding and should be elevated to magnet status though that's my opinion. Wow! I could not be more impressed by the staff at this hospital. The nurses and techs are so attentive, caring for the patient's and the family member's needs. Every person I encountered in this hospital, over the course of 2 visits and 2 weeks, greeted me and often asked what they could do to help. Nobody rushed us through anything. The facility itself was spotless, the in-room technology was also top notch. Nobody wants to wind up in the hospital, but if you do, you'll be glad you made it to this one. read more

I went to the ER at Mease Dunedin because I had a bad stomach pain and my boss wanted me to go as he thought I had a burst appendix. I arrived at 4pm on a Friday and told them what it was that was going on and long story short I said I did not have insurance (I do pay the minimum for the affordable Health care Act every month - it just does not cover ER at all). Long story short I was in the ER for 2 hours and sent home as they could not find anything wrong. A few weeks later I received a bill for $12,000, I immediately called to see what I could do to get it down and was met with NO HELP, they did not care! I was in the Hospital for 2 hours and was not told ANYTHING of what I could do other than "we don't know" and now I owe them the same amount as a new car!! This is sick. Because I am on the cusp financially I cannot get any assistance and will be paying over $300 a month for the NEXT 4 YEARS, not to mention INTEREST as well. And this is one of the 4 bills that I have received for my 2 hour visit. If you want to be taken advantage of and then call a number to speak to someone that literally does not care about you then this is your place. Sad but true. read more
