Queens of North Hawaii Community Hospital continues to evolve into a top notch quality care center…read more The good news is it serves those with HMSA, a Blue Shield/Blue Cross provider. A recent appointment at the Physical Therapy Clinic was and is the best PT support in our town. Jelene, a Kama'aina who recently came back to Hawaii after her 25 plus years professional training and experience on the east coast is brilliant! She spends time to access and converse about symptoms and then develops a plan to teach you how to move forward to alleviate pain. Her experience matters! She is well versed in the physiology and outer workings of the body. Her brilliant mind and observations are gifts as she translates and demonstrates in layman terms her findings. She has a sense of humor and a personal history of physical therapy herself and understands traumatic events that affect the mind and body. Ask for Jelene if you need PT.

Some of the doctors in the Emergency Room are good, but unfortunately there is always that one…read moredoctor that ruins it for the group. That doctor is Dr. Crystal Hammer. I came in with a torsional ovarian cyst and was in excruciating pain. She has absolutely no compassion and was completely incompetent; She was accompanied by a holier than thou twenty something blondie nurse came and treated me like a drug seeker. Neither knew I'm a physician in the community. If they looked in my chart, they could see I don't have any drug history. However, I do have an extremely complicated neurosurgical history. After writhing in pain for literally hours with an extremely high blood pressure, Miss Blondie Remedial Nurse comes in and ask how I am doing and offers me a Celebrex! Are you kidding me? I screamed at her as my pain was excruciating. She then gives me her blondie high school attitude and brings in Hammer who does NOTHING except for scolding me for yelling at the nurse all while I am curled up in a ball, writhing in pain, and begging to be transferred out. Absolute disgrace of an incompetent doctor. I have had several strokes and I can't have spiking blood pressurelike that. Dr. Hammer was even arguing with my doctor on the phone, She is incompetent, arrogant, and should not in medicine. You know a doctor isn't good when they work as BOTH a hospitalist and Emergency Room doctor. I learned later through one of my professional colleagues that she has a terrible reputation and impossible to work with.

Its been a couple years since my beloved mother passed there after alONG , torturous 3.5 years of…read moreliving there and I am plagued still with severe case of PTSD with terrible nightmares about all the begging and pleading and cajoling I did with everyone there TRYING to get my mother the meds and care she needed. I was summarily dismissed for asinine reasons. They would not, no matter how hard I fought, put her on a maintenance dose of antibiotic for UTI's as is common for incontinent elders. They played a sadistic game of if I 'thought' she had an infection -she couldn't speak-but I knew her signs and could read her face- that they would ONLY do an invasive 'cath' to get a sample. Agony for my mom, and yet always positive. Since then I've learned first hand the LIfe Care Center commonly rx's that for incontinent patients. It became a sick game with the powers that be at the time to be SURE they never gave my mom what she needed or what I asked them to do for her. I could go on , there were many things. It was the ones in charge not the CNA's, The CNA's were angels, but they could only do so much when the hateful AsstDirector and Medicare Liason -Sue were pulling rank. When a worker suggested I take it to the "Social Worker" her suggestion was for me to go take 'hula lessons' and think less about my mother....as she lie in agony. While, i had hoped the trauma of dealing with them was over when my mom died, instead it has haunted my psyche' ever since. I wouldn't wish what we dealt with on anyone, anywhere. I understand one of the worst of the culprits-the ASst Director has since retired. but with admin staff changing frequently , I hear, I can't say if the callous manners and attitudes might still remain.

($$ for their own selfish profiteering) never ever again this shallow pretty drug house/facility will ever get any of my family members. FYI - I have WAAY more valid current stories to share that could have caused injury to a patient had I not been there
