I'm in Athens for business and this room was booked for me by another entity. It's worth mentioning that this is a Quality Inn now, but the branding transition seems to be slow (including here on Yelp). Check-in was fine, though I had to coach the staff member on the fact that my room was prepaid and I should be providing a card only for incidentals. She was trying to charge my card. We got that sorted out and she directed me to my room, which was in the back building. Parking was limited near the entrance closest to my room, in part because there's a construction crew of some sort staying here and taking up multiple spaces with large vehicles and equipment. The room itself is fine. Like others, I noted a lingering smell of smoke in the hallways and room, though it was obviously not fresh smoke. I was briefly locked *in* my room because the deadbolt mechanism is seriously broken and pulling off the door. I figured out a way to make it work (and escape), but it wasn't a pleasant experience after arriving and then trying to head back out to meet friends for dinner. Other oddities: the lotion bottle left by the sink with other provided toiletries was clearly used. I requested a late checkout (only an hour late -- noon instead of 11:00am) and was told that would be fine. At 10:43, a housekeeping staff member tried to enter the room and said no one had told her about the late checkout. I was dressed so it was just awkward and frustrating as I tried to prepare for my meetings, made more awkward because she entered the room before the *standard* checkout time. I also happened to be in a room with a jacuzzi tub. Because it's in the main room, not behind a wall or door, and clearly shares a wall with the plumbing of the adjacent room, there were louder than usual noises of water running while my neighbors got ready for bed and then got up in the morning. Would not recommend unless you have a high need for a jacuzzi tub. Also the television in my room only got one channel. If you're in the mood to binge watch TBS from your jacuzzi tub, this is the place for you! It was fine for a night and the location near campus is convenient, but it wouldn't be my preferred hotel in the Athens area. read more

Stayed here a few times now. As far as hotel options in Athens its not awful but its also not great. 3 of the four rooms i've stayed in have smelled like smoke. Other take aways-- Its a good distance from campus. The staff is nice. Easy to find. They have breakfast (not amazing but there are muffins!) Not a horrible price point. read more

This hotel is in desperate need of major renovations. At one time this hotel was nice (back in 1990) but newer hotels like Holiday Inn Suites, Hampton Inn have moved in the area and now out class this hotel. Even the Ohio University has upgraded to meet the demand for higher quality hotels. This hotel is only good if the other hotels are all booked up. Super 8 also sucks! read more

I stayed here for 2 nights to run the Athens Marathon. There were a few other choices for hotels in the area, but this was the best place that I could find in terms of location and affordability. My room was conveniently located near one of the side doors, so I could get to my car fairly quickly. But with that convenience came with it a bunch of noise of other people coming and going. The room was nice and clean, but it had a musky smell. It wasn't bad enough for me to complain. The room had a nice flat screen TV, a small fridge, and a microwave oven. I wouldn't mind staying here again if I ever find myself in Athens, Ohio again. read more

We are touring musicians so when we get to stay in a hotel, it is a Holiday! Thank you Baymont Inn in Athens, OH. This is the first day of Ohio Brew Week and all hotels were sold out, I was so thankful to be able to score such a fine room on such a busy weekend. The front desk staff was phenomenal; check in was a breeze and we were shown exactly how to get to our rooms. It took less than 5 minutes to check in, find our rooms and flop onto the clean and comfy beds. The room is clean and complete with a desk - flat screen TV - microwave - and minifridge. It has a window that opens slightly (my claustrophobia loves this feature), the beds are clean and comfy, as is the shower. I travel with boys so the fact that the toilet is separate from the sink is PHENOMENAL. The pool and lobby are clean and well lit. Parking is ample and also well lit. We never made it to breakfast but it is served until 11am - which RULES. On top of all this the location is top notch - a walk away from any store you could need, Bob Evans in the parking lot, safe and also very quiet and cozy. Definitely recommend this hotel to families and individuals alike. read more

Not the worst place to stay in Athens but the rooms smelled like smoke and mildew. However, the price is reasonable and it's walking distance from campus. There is free breakfast and coffee so that was a win. I'd definitely rather stay here as opposed to Knights Inn. Bathroom situation is a little weird- sink in main room but it's okay for a weekend. read more

Good hotel, but housekeeping was no where to be found. We stayed three night and not once was our room cleaned. We asked a housekeeper we saw in the hallway to empty our trash, and that's all that she did. We had to ask for fresh towels each day at the front desk. I guess you can get away with terrible service in a college town. read more

Two things: 1. Room 121. No complaint about the cleanliness of the room. Linens and pillows were fine - clean. But I was in the same room approximately a year ago and it still has a crummy loose toilet seat with a torch burn in it (too big to be a cigarette burn). Also, address the tub and shower head. 2. The hotels saving grace, despite 121, is its breakfast. To a person who is on the road 24/7 a good breakfast is outstanding. And this place has it!! Has the best breakfast I've seen all year. No eggs or bacon, but waffles, pastries, yogurt, coffee, juice.....and much more. Come for the breakfast!!! read more

Overall a good hotel. The breakfast is a little hit or miss, but outside of that I had a great stay! Very comfortable beds and rooms, and even had accommodations for my infant child. The pool and hot tub is always a blast, and the staff is so willing to help in anyway you need! I left my comb at home, and the hotel had extra ones, free of charge! Lastly, the hotel is located to many things, such as the uptown scene at the local university, as well as some shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. Definitely will be staying here in the future!! read more

Hotel is fine. Run of the mill family cheap hotel. Breakfast had something for everyone but the room is very crowded. Pool has a ton of chlorine but my kids were happy even with red eyes. We slept well. It smells like marijuana BIG time but the hotel staff said it was because Athens made pot legal. So if that's an issue, this hotel and maybe city is not for you. read more

We stayed one night in a double room. The staff was friendly and check in was a breeze. They have a pool and breakfast (decent jalapeno cheese egg omlet) was served until 11am, which I appreciated not being a morning person, and check out at noon. The only reason I came to this hotel was because of a sports team block. I will never stay here again if the team chooses to come back but that seems highly unlikely. The only thing saving this review from a 1 star is because at least the rooms were clean and staff was nice. That is about all this hotel has to offer. The rooms are not sound proof, so I heard people going in and out of their rooms all night long, and in the morning, I was lucky enough to hear ALL of my neighbors wake up calls and cell phone alarms! I originally made my reservation when our team sent out the hotel info, but I called the morning of my check in day to let them know I would be later checking in and they had NO record ofy reservation, even after I gave him my confirmation number. He did go ahead and get me in, and told me it was at the group rate, but when I checked in...it was higher than the group rate. Again, the staff was nice so when I questioned it, the FD agent apologized and fixed it. The TVs are still old school, but because everything is high def now, you had to watch blurry tv. Just don't go to this hotel expecting much. They do have comp breakfast but I am too tired from not getting any sleep to go check it out. read more

Inexpensive, showing it's age, visible wear & tear. Clean, not fancy, serviceable hotel room. Microwave, coffee pot & refrigerator in room. Free breakfast, hot waffles, other continental fare. Friendly staff. Indoor pool a big plus, bring your swimsuit. read more

Stayed here three times before and it was great.. Priced high for what you get but it's a college town, only a few to choose from.. This time, not so good. Wasn't cleaned well, hallways were dirty, shower had stains and dryer didn't work. No one really seemed to care! Will be looking elsewhere. read more

Room was clean. Check in was easy. No problems with having a late check out. Breakfast is what you'd expect at a hotel, but was good for me. Food was kept in stock. My only complaint is I was told the pool is heated, and it was ice cold!. read more

Stayed here for Thanksgiving. Room was clean, bed was was comfortable. Thought it was a bit overpriced, but you are hostage in the area. Did not try the breakfast. Would probably stay here again if in the area. read more

I called to get a reservation and the woman was young and very arrogant and rude! She was like thank you sir with a high pitched voice and a giggle. I told her I am not a sir. She didn't even apologize. She said with a snarl, when I got on the phone with you, your voice sounded like a man. I was appalled! Then she transferred me to someone else and then they transferred me to someone else who put me on hold promising I would speak to a supervisor. Then a man picks up, acts like nothin happened and tried to blow me off. With no discount offered he tried to book me a room at the super 8 without my knowledge telling me it was a discounted rate when it was really a totally different hotel altogether. I am completely dissatisfied and decided to contact their corporate office! I will never book with them. They are associated with super 8 and days inn. Thy will book you at one of those rat holes without you knowing if you don't get all the info. Take my advice and steer clear! You get exactly what you pay for. SMH read more

Bring your own blankets. They don't have extras. You will freeze at night. Also the maids will take your snapped while you're gone.

Don't stay at this hotel unless you're desperate. We stayed in November for a hockey tournament and got their very last available room. The room was infested with stink bugs (they were in groups between the fabric of the curtains and on the ceiling). The room smelled like they had been using it to store dead bodies before our arrival. The walls between rooms were so thin we could hear every single word our neighbors were saying including what they were watching on t.v. (That's how we learned Ronda Rousey lost her match). We needed to go to bed early because our son had to get up at 5:30 for his game, but couldn't sleep because our neighbors were up until after 2:00 a.m. This wouldn't have been an issue had it not sounded like the people next door were in the bed next to ours. The room was dirty and outdated. At the end of our stay they made the maintenance guy inspect our room before they would return our $50 "incidentals" deposit. What a joke. I can't believe we paid $100 to stay in this hell hole. The only decent thing I can say about this place is our room didn't have bed bugs. Save yourself the money and sleep in your car. Trust me- you'll enjoy your stay more. read more
