Their posted hours are not quite accurate. It says they open at 10am but they'll schedule appointments for like 930am. I went to pick up my glasses during the timeframe they were supposed to be open according to Yelp & Google, come to find out they were CLOSED. That was upsetting. Their front door is always locked & it's hard to see inside because of how the sun hits their building. But they'll let you in if you have an appointment or are there to pick up contacts or glasses. I've been having my eye exams here annually since 2015 when they were located at the plaza by what then used to be 24 hour fitness and Raley's. They then relocated to Gateway Plaza near Office Max and what used to be Choice. I've had both Dr. Ogata, the main Optometrist and fill in Optometrists. It's really easy to get an appointment here, since they've been closed during the Pandemic they are quite busy now and have appointments on weeknights which is good for those that work during the day and also over the weekends on Sundays. The door is locked and you have to call or if they see you standing they unlock the door. You immediately get your temperature checked with a standing thermometer and there's a sanitizing station right after. At this point with my eyesight, I just want to get my prescription and be done with it. I previously worked for an Ophthalmology office so I get the clinic flow. Dr. Ogata is very friendly and finds topics to connect and talk with you about which makes you feel comfortable and there's not much of a wait. I give it 4 stars with the choice and prices of the glasses and contacts. I know it is of quality but Costco contacts deals are cheaper, and so is ordering trendy frames online which can be hard to compete with. I like to do things all at once and they didn't have my prescription to trial contact lenses so I have to go back for a follow up. I would give it 5 stars if I was able to just walk out and be all done. read more

They take Medi-Cal here, which gives you a free eye exam for glasses, the prescription lasts 2 years. And with Medi-Cal, you even get to choose the insurance choice free glasses. Not much to choose from, but hey, it's free! They say it takes 1 to 2 weeks to come in and will call. I got Doctor Poon, very nice and really good at what he does. He was also very patient, even with my baby boy whining in the background. He was thorough with asking the right questions and didn't put eyedrops to dilate my eyes since I was still nursing and advise me to come back when I stopped. Minus one star because the one older lady that sat down with me (who had the animal print glasses) was helping me with getting my glasses ordered....she just got up as soon as a customer walked in and left me sitting there without saying anything and assisted them. I was so confused..... Luckily, another girl (short hair with glasses) at the front desk saw me and finished up my order. Thank you~~ she was quick and super friendly. read more

I've been having a hard time finding a sunglasses frames that fit comfortably. I have VSP and looked for the closest VSP doctor after visiting Costco and Bayside popped up at the top of the list in the Plaza shopping center. When I try to open the door I found it to be locked so I figured I'd call and come back later. As I was walking away a lady opened the door and gruffly asked if I had an appointment. I said that I did not and I was just looking for frames. I had bad vibes already but she proceeded to act out out and asked if I had insurance. I do have insurance but even if I didn't they don't sell glasses for cash money? This was a major turnoff but I rolled my eyes and went in and looked. I didn't find anything I wanted and I expressed my frustration with the experience getting in the door to the manager looking up my insurance who ignored me as if I hadn't said anything at all. I didn't see anything at all and when I went to leave the door was still locked. When I tried to open it they just asked me if I was trying to get out and didn't move a muscle. Of course I was trying to escape. When I finally was able to leave I let them know to expect a review on Yelp. No apologies, no nothing. The optometrist Thomas Cushing is wonderful and very professional. However the office staff is the worst. The first time I went there a few years ago I had a very hard time getting through to them because the line was always busy when I got through I had to leave a messag. I never got a call back however I kept calling and got throug. I told the front office about the problem and was told we just moved in and are having issues with the phone. Fast forward to 2024. The same problem called 37 times only to get nothing but a busy signal. Once again, I left my name and number and still didn't get a call back so I decided to try again and finally got through. When I got there, the doors are locked because of Covid so you have to wait to be let in. Understandable with Covid going rampant again however, therefore people in the office and they're all gossiping in visiting with somebody else that is sitting there that is not a customer and it is not on stay off that is visiting the whole time I was there and then when I come back, the same person is there again visiting, it's a wonder why they can't answer the phones with people in the office. This time I didn't bother saying anything, because I knew the excuse would be the same thing. when it came time to pay my bill, they couldn't even process the credit card. She asked me if there was a pin number for the credit card I said yes it's a debit card. She said it doesn't work which was not true so then I had to go use a different credit card that went through and she told me somethings wrong with your credit card. There's nothing wrong with my credit card. I used it right after that and I even checked the balance right before that I think it's user error. I think they really do need to work on the front. I believe the optometrist are losing a lot of business because of the front staff. read more

Didn't have anything bad to say before about this place until now. I brought my glasses in to be fixed because they broke. They quoted me $50 to fix it I said cool. I come back 2 weeks later to pick it up and they did a hack job on it. These frames were not cheap. These are Gucci glasses so yes I'm gonna fuckin trip. If I knew they were gonna mess up my glasses like this then I would've went elsewhere to fix it. I spoke to the manager the Spanish lady and told her this was a hack job and all she said was this is what they had to do to fix it. REALLY. Then she said she had to talk to Hazel and when she came back to me she asked if I could pay the invoice $40..WTF. No. I said I am not paying for a hack job. Here are the pics. This place has been my families's eye care for over 20 years, I had always had the best Customer service and the best eye treatment from Dr Ogata and prior office staff. The last 2 years there has been so many changes at front desk , they lost that great customer service I came for. the staff is so rude and any tiem you ask for copy of prescription , or appointemtn seems you are botherign them. My message to the staff is that is the customer service that has Customers coming back . It is Customers that actualy pay your salary . Without Customer an office can not survive. I did not mind paying the cost for the service or glasses but now that you dont care about Customer Service its time for the Reynoos Family to find a new office who still values Customer Service. read more

This is the second time I came here and it's closed before their lunch 1-2pm. We wouldn't have even had to come a second time if we didn't wait over a month for a small box of 6 contacts for my daughter. First they called to say our order was ready, when we came to pick up no order was made. Then we came back to pick up order and the order was seriously wrong. Negative ONE JILLION stars and a swift kick in the behind for Angelica. Dr. Ogata is also very professional and very thorough. I brought my glasses in with me for the exam and Dr. Ogata told me that contrary to the fact that I'm far sighted, my lenses in my current glasses do not reflect them. He looked over my glasses, told me the lenses were indeed useless and then added, "But the frames are nice!" He wrote me up a new prescription for lenses & hands me a sheet with all my measurements and I wait in line behind another couple who is finishing up their business in the lobby. Enter Angelica, and boy let me tell you...she's got an attitude on her. She is not friendly and she doesn't smile. It even feels like you're bothering her when she is providing something she probably thinks is her finest customer service. I have worked in retail and I have worked as a manager...and I have to say that I have never been treated so poorly in all my life. I asked her if I can just have the new lenses to put into my frames as there is no need to spend money on frames when mine are in PRISTINE CONDITION. I have had these frames now for about nine years - I have the original box and the original cloth and not a scratch on the lenses or the frames. Angelica says yes I can use them. I give her my card, my frames and the box. She takes them all and rings me up. She tells me that it should be ready in 10 days, "...we'll call you when they get in. But if you don't hear from us...you call us." Wow...that's a line I have never heard before, but okay. 7 days later, I get a call and go down to pick my glasses up and as I try them on, Angelica stands impatiently facing me, no smiles and doesn't offer me a mirror. It feels like my glasses are a bit off center, but that's probably because the nose pieces have been moved in order to get the lenses in, so I take the glasses and the case (which I'm surprised they didn't lose). The glasses for some reason don't fit in the case which is odd since it's the OEM case. I get home and try to fiddle with the nose pieces which don't seem to make it any better. I finally realize that the left arm of the frames is bent down significantly (frames are metal). When you close the arms and look at the frames from the back, it is clear that one arm hangs lower than the other. I call and proceed to tell them that my glasses have been damaged. But before I can get the entire sentence out, Angelica cuts me off and says, "Oh yeah...your glasses. Mhmm, I noticed that. I noticed that when you gave them to me, they were bent. You brought them in like that." You idiot. WHY WOULD ANYONE PAY MONEY TO HAVE LENSES MADE AND INSERTED INTO BROKEN GLASSES? I know for a fact that I have never dropped these glasses in the 9 years I have had them and she has the nerve to tell me that they were LIKE THAT? That's funny since Dr. Ogata examined them extensively and did not mention once that the frames were bent or damaged. Angelica herself failed to mention when I turned them over to her that they were bent. Then she says to me, "Well that's the risk you take when you use your own glasses." I don't remember signing anything that says you're allowed to break my frames because I'm submitting them for new lenses. If that was the case, people would never use their old frames for fear that idiots would just break it. BS. That's when I lost it...Angelica first tries to blame me that I gave her broken glasses and then changes her stance and now says it's MY fault. I told her that in trying to save money, I gave them my old frames...and they broke them, so in the end - it's costing me MORE money. Angelica tried to argue some ridiculous semantics with me...with her rude attitude all the way to the very end. In the end, she told me to come back down so the "doctor" can look at them. When I walked in, she was just as nice as can be...did some half-assed adjustments to the metal arms and still tried escape responsibility by saying, "These metal frames...yeah they bend over time LIKE THAT"... I had to bite my tongue, looked at her and said, "Well I've had these glasses for a VERY long time and never had a problem until you touched them..." What an awesome experience! I just finished my first appointment with Dr. Ogata. He is a really wonderful optometrist. He's friendly, personable and very open. I really like that he will take the time to explain everything he's doing in detail, and at the same time I never felt that he was condescending or talking down to us. It's very rare to find a doctor with those qualities. So rare that even though we live in San Jose and only come to Vallejo occasionally, we're choosing him as our family eye doctor. Also, he's very kid friendly. He used to be a pediactric nurse and it really shows. I just wish that our infant daughter was covered under our insurance so that she could get our exam from him. read more

Slowest service I have ever experienced in my whole 30 years of wearing prescription. They seem to forget about you once you have given them your money. After my first appointment was May 29, it took 3 weeks to get my glasses. And I wouldn't have known the glasses were in had I not called them 2x to follow-up. Nobody ever followed up to even let me know my glasses were in. I came back because I had issues with the prescription. I asked if it was going to take that long and they said it shouldn't take more than 1 week..here we are 2 weeks later and nobody has called us to follow-up. My husband and I have had to constantly call to follow-up. When my husband called to follow-up on both our glasses, they informed him that my glasses were in today and that 'Chris' has already informed me that the glasses were. Absolutely not true or we wouldn't have called to follow-up looking for my glasses. Also my husband got a prescription for safety glasses for work. He has had to come back to get it fixed because they never told him that his prescription does not work on curved lenses. To the business owner, please do something about your front office staff. My family will be taking our optometry business elsewhere. read more

I went there today on a Sunday and it was great I had an associate Dr I can't remember her name but she was wonderful. I must have had my eyes checked maybe 6 times over the years. I would say this young doctor did the best job of zeroing in on the phoropter. I liked the way she mixed the lenses when they began to look the same. I thought that was very smart of her. Hazel the manager is helpful and witty. Alba at the front desk was as friendly as could be and knowledgeable. I took my daughter to Costco earlier this week and that guy was a grumpy bear. Costco doc is skilled but poor guy is a grouch. The cost difference for an eye exam here vs. Costco is maybe five dollars for cash. This place files the insurance for you so really Dr Ogata's place for eye exam is cheap and definitely a better examination. Not sure if they have auto phoropter for little kids but you can call. My exam was only a 10 dollar copay. They have a better selection of frames than Costco but they cost more also. If you can support this local small business for at least your exam that will keep this wonderful place here in Vallejo up and running. Hazel nice hair if you read this. read more

I agree that Dr. Wayne Ogata was very professional, friendly, and proficient, which is the main reason for my returning to this optometrist office after several years from my initial visit. However, since I first went to order my eye glasses, I had misgivings about my order. The gentleman, Ed, that was helping me did not answer my questions and did not communicate effectively. I explained my concern to Dr. Ogata and felt that it was a communication issue. That was approximately two years ago. This last time I had an eye exam, the woman who helped me with the product choices was in a hurry to leave and did not provide me efficient customer service. We went over my coverage and since I have double coverage, she stated that it would be a better use of my benefits to use IMed for the purchase of my progressive lenses. Since she is the person who is suppose to know about insurance, I thought she would do what she had stated to me. However, when I later called to follow up, I was told that the office visit was billed to the other insurance provider. When I requested that it be billed to the original IMed insurance, the office manager stated that it had already been billed and she was not going to do anything else about it. When I went into the store this morning to make my final selection, I spoke with Dr. Ogata about the misinformation I had been given. I followed up this afternoon and spoke with the Office Manager, Hazel. When I explained my concern, her response after I explained why I felt they should bill IMed, her response to me was, "If you don't like it you can go somewhere else." Then she proceeded to hang up the phone. The reason I am writing this review is because, not only have they wasted my precious time, but, all their office manager could do was respond rudely and proceed to hang up the telephone. I now have no glasses ordered, they have tied up my insurance so I am unable to shop elsewhere until they release the hold. It appears that, perhaps, their products are overpriced and that may be the reason they don't provide detailed information about the product prices so that the purchasing decision is made with little information about alternatives. Just ordered 3 pairs of glasses, and received them in less then two weeks, fast in the Optometry field. I love the glasses, the frames, the fit & the price. Dr. Ogata is very professional, but down to Earth. Ed helped me with my selection of frames and found them real quick.I suffer from a bad neck, and they suggested Computer glasses, now I don't lean forward to read the screen; really helped out. I moved from Idaho to Ca and needed my glasses to be sent in because they are under warranty. The gal told me I had to send them in instead of them because it is their policy. I've been to them two or three times while the service is okay and dr. Ogata is lovely and patient. I had a huge issue with the anti reflective coating on their lenses every time where the lining is faulty and ends up coming off my lens this has happened three times now even when I had it replaced under the one year warrantee and now refuses to do anything for me. I've been to Bayside Optometry three times over two years. The first time as a non-patient, it was to get my plastic frames (bought elsewhere) adjusted. They heated up a device, adjusted my glasses, fit them to me, and handed them back, at no charge. The second visit was a year ago, I ordered progressive lenses for my existing frames, and I was happy with those lenses while the prescription lasted. After one annual visit, I walked out with free 5-day trial supply of contact lenses. They met my bifocal needs, and I'm very happy with contacts. Dr. Ogata asked me to call him Wayne, and the entire experience was very comfortable. He explained how my insurance would work, and what my options were. He explained everything he did to me, made it interesting, and even fun. I felt very confident in selecting contact lenses, and he coached me in putting them on and taking them off. He made sure I could do it by myself before I left. I have since ordered my contact lens re-supply from Bayside. The other staff are helpful and courteous. It was a good experience, and I would recommend Bayside Optometry. They are in the Park Place shopping center in Vallejo between 24 Hour Fitness and Raley's, with ample parking. read more
