It's time for my eye exam again. I've had good experiences with Redwood Eye Center in the past and they continue with their excellent track record. I checked in easily and quickly at the front reception desk. Had a mild wait while I scribbled out some paperwork and and then after a few more minutes, went to get my eye exam I saw Quan Dao for my exam. I've seen her twice before. The last two times were quite interesting. I had a routine eye exam and then I suggested if the prescription was simple enough that I could get it fulfilled at Costco. Oh, that was not the right decision for me. My prescription IS simple but Costco had to cut my lenses four times and they still failed. They sent me back for another eye exam to make sure my prescription was "correct". If there was a "mistake" in the prescription then I was allowed a free redo. There was no mistake in my prescription, but there was some room for a fudge factor. Which changed the prescription enough to get me a free redo at Costco. That was the whole point of the exercise. Well, the exam this time went smoothly. I suspected there was some very minor change to my prescription which showed up mostly in my nearsightedness. I felt I might benefit from some extra power in the lens there. Bingo. That was the exact result of my new exam. This was such a minor change to my prescription that Quan Dao and I debated if it was worth it to get another pair of glasses. In the end, we decided the problem could be solved with a minor upgrade in a pair of cheap readers. These cost anywhere from two bucks to 20. Then we both recalled the Costco experience and shuddered. We both agreed it was not worth going through anything like that again not for this minor prescription change. Checking out was a breeze. I just needed to pick up the printout for my new prescription and it was done. read more

Front desk seems like they more there to gossip with each other then help. Rude not helpful Glasses take forever going to walking around blind for a while. Trying to get help is crazy no follow up no customer service. I have no contacts can't order cause they are on back order never got told anything. read more

The doctor that gave me my eye exam was phenomenal but unfortunately I'm having an extremely hard time ordering contact lenses with them. I've called twice and left a message two separate times for someone to call me back so I can order contacts but no one has called me. It's been over 1 week. The positives are they honored the warranty on 3 occasions on the same pair of glasses over a year or so, and the initial exam with the ophthalmologist was pleasant. When my glasses arrived, the lenses were in the wrong frames. I've never experienced that before in 30+ years. That said, the overwhelming negative is service from the front desk staff: Robotic and condescending. They were referred by my primary care doctor, but I won't be returning now that it's time for my next eye exam and glasses. read more

I tried to make an appointment as a new customer for my son and the lady who answered was very short with me. Even talking to another customer next to her while she's on the phone with me. She needed my insurance number and name so I told her I'd call back in a few mins while I get what she needed. Must have been right up her alley because she hung up so fast and when I called back she answered with a quick "I'm going to place you on a brief hold" and never came back to the phone. I'll just stick traveling to Bay Vision Optometry in Oakland. While it may be a little far the customer is top tier and they like to take the money I'm trying to spend. And based on some of the reviews for this place it seems like this is an on going problem. read more

I went to Dr. Dao for new contacts since my current brand was irritating me, and after examining need she told me I had an abrasion on my eye! In the end she gave me some very easy care instructions and eyedrops, and where to go if it doesn't get better. Within two days my eyes felt SO much better and I can wear my old contacts again with no problem. I really appreciate how she handled the situation and I'll definitely be returning when it really IS time to replace these ones! read more

Front desk staff was nice. Appointment with dr was not great. I was going to be paying extra for a fitting for contacts (in addition to glasses). Price drastically changed from what I was quoted and what dr said it would be. I expected some change but not $150+ increase! Dr seemed annoyed the rest of the appointment which made it a bit uncomfortable. At the end of the appointment, I was expecting to look for new frames. They told me I needed to make an appointment to do so. The soonest appointment they had available was 5 weeks out because I have Partnership Insurance and they only see people with that insurance (for frames) on Tuesdays. It would have been nice if they said that when I made my appointment for the eye exam and I could have booked it at the same time. I've never had to make an appointment to pick out frames. read more

The entire experience, from the moment I walked in, was adequate. The front desk staff was borderline friendly and not very enthusiastic when I checked in. However the Doctor was not only knowledgeable but also took the time to address all my questions and concerns. I left the clinic feeling confident in the care I received. I was referred to Redwood Eye Center as I needed to have cataract surgery. I had my initial consultation with Dr. Anthony Agadzi where he was very professional and informative. He knew I was afraid and concerned about having cataract surgery. Dr. Agadzi was very comforting in explaining this was a standard procedure, what to expect, the recovery period and convinced me everything will be fine. My first cataract surgery was last week and everything was successful. I've had followed appointments with Dr. Agadzi and because of my experience I'm comforted to know my second cataract surgery will be successful as well. I called to make an appointment a few days in a row it always whent to voice mail and no one returned my call . when My husband finally got us an appointment things went ok sort of my husbands lens got broke while in there . then shortly after that my frame broke we again had issues having our calls returned then issues with staff being rude so we called and other place got in that day and got a new frame Silhouettes and lens delivered to my house in under 3 weeks about a week after I got my new glasses, Redwood called for my husband to bring in his frame for his new lens to be put in when he got there they had the wrong lens. read more

Yikes. If you can go anywhere else, please do so. Most of the problems I have with this place are due to contacting and being contacted back. You call them and pretty much always get the automated system saying they're busy. You can pick a department to ring and then leave a message, but it is a coin toss if they call you back. I called 4 or 5 times in one week over the course of the week and finally got called back the next week. Been trying to order and pick up some contact lenses for my wife and that took 3 calls to get a call back. Says 2-3 business days to get them and waited another full week to call to see the status. Of course, reached automated system during business hours and left voicemail. Got a call back the next day that the lenses are there... So, I go to pick them up on my half hour lunch break on a Friday and see the attached sign on the door stating the office is closed for an hour lunch on Thursdays and Fridays. Give me a break! My wife is the main customer here and I tried to get myself an exam last year as well, but due to the problems with getting a hold of someone, I took my business to Costco. Will probably be taking her business there, too. Stay far away, y'all. Don't say I didn't warn you. read more

I have been a patient at Redwood Eye Center for years. Lately their customer service has gone down the drain. The ladies that answer the phones do not sound like they like their job. Answering the phone and sighing does not make the caller feel good about calling any business. I'm currently on hold as I am typing this review. If you take a look at my screenshot I've been holding for a little over 21mins just to make an appointment to get my glasses realigned. And I'm already dreading that appointment. The last time I came in was to pick up my glasses they made me wait 20mins. Just to pick up my glasses. It's a bad look when there are 4 people at the front desk and you only have one person helping patients on and off the phone. I get that you're understaffed but I'm thinking, if they are, why aren't they cross trained to at least help check patients in or help make appointments. I was on hold for a good 25mins before getting my appointment made. The phone was picked up 3 times by the same lady... the first time she picked up she said; "Redwood Eye Center can you please hold?" I told her I have been on hold for 7mins, in which she proceeded to say that the person that can help me is helping patients in front of her. The second time she picked up she asked, "how can I help you?" I said I need to make an appointment to get my glasses readjusted. She asked if I was a patient and I said yes and then she said ok can you hold. I was on hold for who knows however long, then the same lady answers again and asks me to hold again! I told her I have been holding for over 20mins and she said, "We're understaffed and the person that can help me is helping patients in front of her." My thought was why did she ask how she can help me if she wasn't going to or could not help me? The customer service at this place is really bad. There's also no use talking to the "supposed" front desk manager because last time I was there waiting for my glasses she basically shamed the new front desk lady (who was in training) in front of the other staff and I was right there in the waiting room within distance to hear her. She also put down the people who work in optical. Talk about team player. She's basically a part of the problem so I would assume any complain you speak to her about would get disregarded. Can't believe I have never reviewed their practice all these years. My husband and I have had our eyes checked by Dr. Carlson for so many years. Then, when the practice moved to its current Redwood Street location, our eyes were then examined by Dr. Cushing. The practice has grown in staff, customers and building size. Both Dr. Carlson & Dr. Cushing helpful and precise in their assessment of our eye conditions. My husby wears glasses all the time and needs regular annual checkups. I am nearsighted and only wear glasses while I drive or need to see things far away. Dr. Carlson and Dr. Cushing are also kind, respectful and accommodating in their practice. We've tried Costco & Kaiser Eye places. Nothing beats Redwood Eye Center. read more

I can't express how horrible my experience with this clinic has been. First of all, appointments are so overbooked that the wait is ridiculous. Anticipate a 2 hour wait with an appointment. Dr. A may be a great doctor but when you meet with him him he barely speaks to you and is immersed in his computer. He is not informative at all. I had to interrupt him with questions regarding my specific issues. In my case, I was scheduled for eye surgery and the evening before they called to tell me that they had not received clearance from my insurance so it had to be rescheduled. I had cancelled my vacation and had someone take off from work to be with me. The appointment had been made a while in advance and the insurance told me that they received the request from Redwood 2 days prior to surgery - not enough time to be preapproved. I called the emergency # for the doctor and he screamed at me. Then he told me that he would have his office manager call me to address the issue. Never received the call. Billing department is a joke. They bill you for things that you are not responsible for or that you actually paid for. Also post op, if you can't get an appointment because they are overbooked and you fall outside a time frame the post op appointments are no longer covered. I was told at the office that I don't have a fee but then I am billed. Then I had to deal with their nasty billing person who threatened me with collections over $30. But Dr. Dao is awesome. Had a contact lens disappear to the top of my eye when visiting Napa from out of town. In a panic, I called and they got me in that day. My wait in both the outer waiting area and the inner waiting room was less than 10 minutes. The reception staff, the nurse, and Dr. Dao were fabulous! I left the office thinking that if I didn't live 2,000 miles away, I would absolutely choose this practice for my eye care. They cancelled my appointment without discussing with me; I had an appt last year under one insurance and got new insurance so was trying to schedule under new insurance. The scheduling process and even uploading this new insurance was a pain because I the receptionist assisting was training. Using very unprofessional language. Mentioned a refraction fee but the girl couldn't even explain what it was and they haven't responded to an email inquiry to discuss it more. Last time I was there anyway Dr. Agadzi was rushing way too much and even hit my nose bridge with the machine that they switch with the lenses on to determine which feels best. Was not talkative and made me feel like he didn't care to really discuss or explain anything. He truly seemed like he on something more than caffeine with how fast he was going but that was a year ago now. I only went previously and tried to go again out of distance/availability convenience but it's not worth it. Still astonished that they would just cancel an appt on a patient's behalf. Long wait times too. Everyone's grumpy there. They also charge to tell you what the pupil distance is because they don't want you going anywhere else to get the frames. I've also seen Drs. Agadzi and Cushing for my eye care and both are very caring and provided the best care I could ask for. They have a great selection of eye wear and technician Allen took the time to help me find glasses with the best fit and comfort. Dr. Agazi saved my eyesight. He would not give up till he figured out what was wrong and then found a cure! I call both of them "Dr. House" except both have great interpersonal skills as well. The physicians are great but the front office staff and contact lens specialist are terrible. If you are like me, you have a short appointment with the physician but everything else you need (returned calls, accurate information, someone to actually pick up the phone when call, etc) comes from the staff. They are all terrible and easily forget that we are paying customers. I have one more appointment and then I'll be switching to another office that is organized. I'm actually trying to call right now (it's 9:12 am and they opened at 8 am) but their voicemail is still turned off from yesterday saying the office is closed... Also, the front staff is ALWAYS training someone. I assume they have a hard time retaining staff in the unorganized environment. read more

If I could give this less than one star then I would. Terrible administration do not answer the phone nor do they respond to messages. I had an exam in January 2021 paid my deductible though all was good. Then on December 22 I received a notification that my insurance had been declined. Not only had Redwood Eye Center taken a full 12 months to present the charge to the insurance company but they had presented it to my medical insurance company and not my vision insurance company. Consequently I am 350.00 dollars out. I am now putting this down to a loss because I am sure that their incompetence will carry on into next year and will affect my future insurance. So many staff behind the reception and they still cant get things right or answer the phone. Back to my old doctor now...should never have left him. read more

My newly acquired insurance company referred me here to get my exam and bi-annual pair of FREE glasses :D I was a little hesitant to make an appointment at first because I didn't know what to expect... I received medical insurance through The County and was expecting this facility to be as bad as county-run facilities, but it was NOT! It was actually a very swanky looking place, with gorgeous designer sunglasses in locked glass cases that I just absolutely drooled over while I waited my turn. The waiting room was PACKED and I was very pleasantly surprised to be called after about two other people, and didn't end up waiting at all really! My optometrist was very courteous and professional. He also seemed very knowledgeable and gave me a prescription that was just right and not TOO STRONG for me, like I usually end up with! :D I then got to pick from a number of frames out of the "free" section. I was SO thankful that they had a "young adult" category within that for me to choose from!!!! usually my choices are: Old Lady. OR Childrens. ;-P I was told that my glasses would be ready in 2 weeks for pickup. They did promptly call me after two weeks, but then I started to think... wait! all those people in the waiting room were waiting to get FITTED!!!! And I was scared to return for the long wait! I finally got myself there, after my current glasses were just not cutting it anymore, and I was glad to hear the had not sent my specs BACK or anything, as SOME places will when you pull a "Nikki" and just don't call for months, haha! So I waited a LITTLE while, but I went in the morning so I would just fall asleep in my chair and it worked! Cuz I have NO IDEA how long I was there! Haha! Here's a pic of my cute glasses! EVERYONE loves them!!! I've gotten a MILLION compliments! Haha! For REAL! Reading another review... its SO cool that he does Botox! Crazy that they are serving people from ALL ends of the community here! GREAT PLACE!!! The reason they don't get "5 Stars" is cause I still had to go to "My Gal" in Oakland at Focal Point to get these re-adjusted, but you really can't fault them for that!!! Very disappointed in Redwood eye center today. I've been calling the optical department for two weeks and four messages to no return phone calls. I called today and one nice gal was going to finally have the optical person call me. I wanted to order and pay for my daughters contact prescription for a surprise Christmas gift. The optical department actually called my daughter instead and she ordered them herself and paid for them as well. They ruined my Christmas surprise for my daughter. When I called to expressed my concern, the optical department was too much of a coward to get on the phone and instead had the front office take me call. Disappointed! read more

It was my third appointment here from a eye being injured, the first two appointments went well and FAST, but my last visit today I had to walk out after two hrs of waiting, this was crazy and very uncomfortable just sitting there with out being noticed, like if you are just a money making number, it looks like they over booked people on the same time appointment just for the money, they don't care if you're wasting your time, is all about the money so they overbooked people, like cattle in a truck, the most cattle you fit in ure truck the more money you get, I'm very disappointed,I also had to drive 20 mins to this place and that wasn't taken in consideration, there's no excuse that is going to make this ok, please treat people with respect in to there time spending there, I'm not going back and will not recommend this place to no one, will finish my last appointment at another eye dr closer to me so I'm getting my documents transfer to the new location read more
