I was in the Dr.'s office the week of March 24th, 2025, and was appalled at how she bullied one of her employees. I'm actually in shock at how she berated the poor woman, Okura had no control whatsoever of her actions! This was done in front of me the patient and other people that were in the office. I won't be returning and I will pass it on. The doctor's temperament was very concerning. She must know to take her employee aside privately if necessary... Dr. Okuda was great. Had to find a new eye doc and was happy w/ the service and prices for my pay out of pocket needs.

I went here because they are a dealer for Costa Del Mar sunglasses. I ordered RX lenses and all was sent off. I go to pick them up and the young lady there points out a flaw in the lens fit. She tells me she was already spoken with Costa and a new frame and lens are being made. I am impressed with here catching this mistake and telling me what she did to resolve. Very knowledgeable,very throrough in her examination, she is kind, patient and friendly. After having had trouble with my eyeglasses' prescripcions for a long time at another eye center, I was very lucky to finally find Dr. Akura. Dr. Okura's staff are all very eficient and friendly. Everyone in that office gives you the impression that they are pleased to listen to your needs, and always have a knowlwdgeable answer to your questions, both about insurance coverage and the particulars of the glasses you have in mind. Dr. Okura, Christina and Kaye, have always been so helpful and responsive to my eye care needs and wants. Recently I experienced an issue with a pair of prescription sunglasses that had a defective part. They went out of their to first get them repaired under warranty, then when the glasses broke again at the same spot (manufacturer's fault) they found out through the sun glasses company representative there was a known problem. So they made arrangements to send them the glasses and yesterday my new and improved sunglasses came back. read more

Been going to this optometry for close to ten years. I love the staff and doctors and the selection of both glasses and sunglasses are not that bad. They have designer frames like Michael Kors, Valentino and more. But, it's sad that they don't carry the Coach line anymore. Goes the same for contacts lots of selections. Doctor Okura is really nice. Takes the time to explain any questions. Christina in the front has been VERY patient with me from teaching me how to put on contacts (my first time) to helping with me pick out frames, along with one of the other girls from the front whose name I cannot remember right now. Very helpful in knowing what my insurance covers and how much things will cost even before totaling everything. Extremely accommodating when I had to come in to get help with my contacts last minute. It is a small office with only one doctor, so like every doctor visit there is some waiting. Not as much as other eye doctors I have gone to though. read more

Dr. Okura is great! She's kind, personable, and sweet. The staff there are also great to work with and are really communicative and follow up promptly via phone. They were super knowledgeable about my insurance and were able to answer every question i had about what was covered. The spot is small, but they have a solid selection of frames. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is that there can often be a bit of a wait (since there's only one doc, which makes total sense!). I've had Dr. Okura as my optometrist for a long time, but if not for my health insurance coverage, I would choose a different provider/optometrist. When I had to schedule appointments her office was closed because of water damage or I had to wait almost 2 months to get an appointment because she was on vacation or at conferences. Even the person who I spoke with to book an appointment said that her conferences and continuing education were important too. (Even if it meant I had to wait 2 months to get an appointment?) She argued with me against my ophthalmologist-recommended treatment after the fact and criticized my final decision, in consultation with my ophthalmologist, as a patient to choose which prescription glasses I wanted. read more

I experienced very prompt and courteous service from a knowledgeable and welcoming staff.

They've been my eye doctor for 9 years, we're actually like family now. They even know me by name when I come in and ask about my wittle baby. Considering my vision went through several changes including myself being pregnant over the years, we've stayed in close contact. This year was the first time though I ever got an eye infection from wearing my contacts to long, and she took me the same day, just asked me to wait and she'll see me between clients. WHICH I WAS SO APPRECIATIVE OF! She dropped some drops in my eyes and the next day I was all better. Dr. Okura is very patient and gentle, I always tell her its weird. It feels good when I get an eye exam. LOL. The ladies are so helpful, I am very extra and always want designer frames, so even if they don't have them on display they can order samples from Marchon for me to try them before buying them. When I order contacts its about a two day turn around which isn't bad at all. I wouldn't go anywhere but here. EVER. read more

I liked my coworkers glasses and asked him where he got them and that was how I found out about this place. Big mistake. Darlene could not give me an accurate prescription. She asked me for my prior doctors prescription... which I couldn't remember it off the top of my head. So this 'doctor' guesses what the prescription is. Her 1970s vision machines are just for show. After she predicts your prescription she asks you to come back in a week... and then the next week.. and the next... and then a recommended half year check up. It is just unbelievable that the USA allows a racquet like this to exist. You cannot buy contact lenses without a "doctors" signature. But in the UK you can. On UK websites, you don't need any prescription. Google Vision Direct UK and get your correct prescription without the "middleman". read more

This is my 10th year of going to Dr. Okura. I've always been treated as the most important person in the room when I'm there, as I think she tries to make every patient feel that way. Before any exams, she sits and chats, building relationships and trying to get to know you so that you don't feel your entering into some maze-like system. The level of personal attention makes a difference and if I were to move anywhere in the Bay Area, I would make it a point to keep her as my eye doctor. As for glasses, they do have a good selection in the office. Whatever they don't have, they're more than willing to order for you. One caveat is that they don't carry all brands, so you would be advised to contact the office before going to see what they do carry so that you can do some research beforehand. read more

I have been going to Dr. Okura since 1996. She has been so wonderful! She is so soft spoken and nice. If she isn't there to see me, her substitutes are always great. My only negative comment is I have to wait awhile to be seen. However, they are usually nice about it. And, I've been going there for a long time, so I expect it. Good services, staff is a bit disorganized, but overall a good place for for eye exams and a decent selection of glasses.

This review is for a Dr. Kirajima that practices in Dr. Okura's office. So please note this is not for Dr. Okura. Do NOT see Dr. Kirajima. He is rude and does a half fast job. I went there for an eye exam and contacts. He didnt' even introduce himself and just started the exam. He asked if I knew what my prescription was, and I told him (basically giving him a cheat sheet to begin with). I've been wearing contacts for 20 years so know what my prescription is. He then asked if I had my contact boxes (that has the brand, measurments, prescription) at home. I told him yes. After the exam, he told me I needed to call back and tell them the specifications on my contact lens box (which included the measurements). They then proceeded to tell me I needed to pay for the contact lens fitting! I told them, why was I being charged when I had to call them with my measurements? I then told them. Ok, if you're going to charge me, then NO, I don't have my contact lens boxes at home -- and to give me my contact lens prescription. The doctor then said to do that, he would need to start over since he didnt' take any of my measurements and said it was because I said I have boxes at home and to provide them with the measurements. So, they basically wanted to charge me for the contact lens fitting when I gave them the information. That then took away from my contact lens allowance!!! I have complained to VSP about the doctor and his half fast exam. Not good business practice at all. You will get ripped off if you see him. read more

i got my annual contact lens exam and eye health check with dr. brian kitajima again. he was really friendly and thorough! he checked to make sure my hard contact lenses were fitting properly and did a really thorough health exam on my eyes. i felt really relieved after I saw him as vision is such a big part of life and my risk for retinal tear is higher due to high prescription. he even did a special test on my eye called "indentation" to make sure i have no tear or holes inside my eyes. i loved it! he is a really great doctor!!! read more

I had just misplaced my glasses and needed a replacement as soon as possible. I called and spoke with Christina and she was able to get me an appointment the same day due to a cancellation. I showed up 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, and Dr. Diez was able to see me right on schedule. She was professional, knowledgeable, and was able to quickly diagnose my eyesight and show me that I needed a slightly stronger prescription than I had previously. She was also able to draw a set of diagrams to explain how the progression lenses would be able to handle three different distances - far, mid and reading. She also did an eye health exam, checking fro glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. Thankfully, I had none of those, but I was able to ask her about eye health and preventative measures, which she knew a great deal about. She even informed me about a new type of lens that will help reduce blue light (which has been shown to contribute to macular degeneration,) plus advice for eating green leafy vegetables and wearing polarized sunglasses. I have asked other OD's about these things and not been able to get satisfying answers, so I was impressed by Dr. Diez's knowledge and will definitely be returning to her for future checkups. After the exam, Valerie helped me to choose frames and lenses, and she was very courteous and friendly, and was able to clearly explain all the options that I had. She also knew exactly what my insurance would cover and what it would not, and she did not pressure me into getting things that I could not afford. Overall, the staff, Christina, Valerie and Kresta were all professional, helpful and courteous. I was very pleased with my experience and I will definitely be returning here in the future! read more
