Bayside LIRR has the appeal of a suburban commuter rail despite it is in city limits of the five boroughs. This station is equipped with a ramp accessible for the physically challenged. Platform is long and wide as it does not feel crowded with a heavy influx of passengers. An indoor waiting room is often closed especially during holidays. Three self-serve ticket machines are available. When the sun has gone away this station can become quite dark and lighting is very minimal- like a rural interstate highway with very minimal lighting at night for drivers to use caution. At night Bayside LIRR station is prone to fireflies and other pesky insects of a suburban setting. The entry way arch and pillar on the West bound platform has houses, trains and some aquatic images embedded. This station conveniently sits nearby Dunkin Donuts, McDonalds, 7-Eleven and restaurants.

Simple, small train station…read more The Little Neck LIRR is served by the Penn Station and Port Washington lines. It's also one of the only LIRR stations in NYC with a crossing, so don't be running rate if you're catching a train on the other side of the platform. Purchase your ticket ahead of time. There's no indoor waiting area and there's only one shelter, but the platforms rarely get crowded, so it only really matters if it's super cold outside. There's also a decent-sized parking lot with a cab service (wouldn't recommend the latter unless you're in a hurry or the Q36 isn't running). Speaking of that 36, it used to wait for the Queens-bound trains to arrive during the evening rush. Don't know if it still does. The surrounding area is safe, so there's no need to have anxiety taking a train here at night. There's really nothing around the station except a little deli where you can grab a quick sandwich or drink before you depart.

To get to the Westbound side there are two options the overhead walkway (entrance located mid platform) or across the tracks at the entrance of the parking lot area. If you're running late it is highly likely you will miss your train unless you're already on the platform and can run up the stairs and down quickly. Be sure to leave enough time to buy tickets if you do not have any as the machines are located by the entrance of the parking lot which is on the East bound side.. there is one machine also located across on the west bound side. Parking lot has a fee for the weekdays but weekends it is free.

Before we even took off, we received outstanding customer service from Sascha at the Delta check-in counter. I hope I'm spelling her name correctly! She was extremely attentive, patient, helpful, and made our check-in experience so much easier. It's always nice to start a trip with someone who genuinely takes the time to make sure you're taken care of. Thank you, Sascha, for starting our Paris trip off on such a positive note! When arriving, I began to realize just how large this airport is. Both my arrival and departure were out of Terminal 8, which had plenty of shopping and dining. Lines can be long, but they move! I'd definitely leave 2.5-3 hours if checking a bag like me to feel less rushed. If you have extra time, then it's time to dine (my catchy saying for airport travel lately)! My coworker and I loved Nolita Wine Bar, and I'm thinking this airport will be my airport for when coming out to NYC for work.
