5 stars for Table Tennis: There are around 7-8 recreation centers in Virginia Beach, but this is the only location that has Adult table tennis (ping-pong) days in the main gym. Tuesdays (5:30 PM- 9 PM), Fridays (5:30 PM- 8:30 PM) and Sundays (2:30 PM- 4:45 PM). There are 11 TT tables and 1 table with robot. Players with various skillsets can come play and challenge each other in fun, competitive TT matches. Minus 1 star for rest of the rec center: This is an outdated rec center compared to the other newly renovated rec centers in the area. In the locker rooms, there are open showers only, so if you are a private person then it might get unncomfortable showering here with everyone nude or semi-nude around. They recently renovated 2 new private bathrooms (handicap accessible) next to the swimming pool office that can be used to shower privately..

Thank you Bayside Rec for allowing me to become an archer! There are not a lot of places where you can learn archery in the Hampton Roads area. I started working out here eons ago but now I primarily use my membership for archery classes. Unfortunately I don't make full use of this membership. Their archery classes are currently taught by Katie and Ethan. They are wonderful instructors that put their students at ease. I have had the opportunity to do their intro, intro 2/ intermediate class , long distance archery and their tournament archery class where you learn to score and compete. They also have archery competitions that you can sign up for as long as you have taken a clinic or intro class. Those are super fun and usually revolve around her holidays. I've done two - one around Christmas which was holiday themed and I placed second in the Adult division and the other one was the St. Patrick's day one which I didn't do as well but it was super fun. They put you in groups of different skill levels and ages so you compete as a group but are still scored and compete individually. It's a great way to instill camaraderie/team work and encourage one another. They offer recurve and compound bow archery. I have yet to take recurve which is the bow without the pulleys. Classes are typically during the Fall, Winter and Spring lasting from four to six classes I believe and rate typically an hour and fifteen minutes long.

We are so fortunate to have such a wealth of heart- healthy opportunities throughout Virginia Beach at an incredibly reasonable fee! Bayside Rec Center is phenomenal. They have a great team of staff that run the place efficiently and with a positive attitude. They are welcoming and eager to help you achieve your health goals no matter how easy or intense. It's all up to you and your level of comfort.. they encourage without pressuring. So definitely a great way to start your New Year's resolution and keep your resolve throughout your program. My sister and I attended the archery demo this past Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had already taken an introductory class with Katie and Anne Marie a year or so ago, so we knew we'd love to further refine our skills. They were very excited and patient introducing kids and adults to the art of archery. Clearly, their passion for archery is exemplified in the way they inspire kids and adults alike to try their skills at archery! Definitely, a great way to get the whole family involved in something that is challenging yet loads of fun!! Try it, you'll love it!!

This place is a great value to the residents of Virginia Beach. Great choices of work out. The pool is great.

1 star. I had a very concerning experience here that parents should be aware of. During our visit,…read morea worker handled a situation very poorly and did not step in when they should have. A little boy who was bigger than my daughter was allowed to tell her where to go and try to direct her against her will. The employee present did not correct the situation or ensure my child felt safe. As a parent, that was extremely unsettling. Staff should be paying attention and stepping in when one child is trying to control or push another child around. Allowing that kind of situation to continue without intervention creates an unsafe environment. On top of that, after I cancelled my subscription and informed them that I was cancelling, they still charged me for an additional month. Being billed after cancelling is unacceptable. Between the unsafe situation involving my child and being charged after cancelling, I cannot recommend this business. Parents should be cautious.

I loved working out here. This was my first Crossfit box/gym that I've been too. The owners, Dawn…read moreand Jim, are very visible and have a passion for the gym. They employ coaches who genuinely want to see you reach your best, and understand everyone has their own fitness level. I've worked out most of my life, but I've never seen the results I gotten from working out here. There are 4 different rooms where they hold classes, open gym and some additional classes. They offer different class time each day, and include open gym time for those who want to work on their personal programs. They post the daily WOD on the website, along with the schedule. Each class is scheduled for an hour and is broken into phases. First, there is a warm-up and stretch phase. Second, there is a strength phase which normally consist of the current strength cycle. Lastly, there is the expected WOD. There are different Crossfit workouts daily. I was a member for a year, and don't remember repeating many WODs. There is also a F.I.T. class, which is a hybrid of Crossfit and HIIT training. Mostly women attend these classes. However, it definitely isn't "weaker" workout. It just has a different focus of training. Think of a Crossfit WOD consisting of lighter weight, more reps, and fewer rest periods. I used to try to fit in an a F.I.T class, so I can improve my cardio and muscle endurance. There is a lot more I can say, but this post is getting long lol. If my work schedule didn't change, I would still be a member of the gym. The gym is always evolving. Dawn and Jim are always looking for ways to improve the experience it's members.

This time was for an event being held in a large meeting room off the lobby. The location is on the portion of Newtown Road where the road turns east & the remainder is called Diamond Springs Road. This portion of the road actually runs between Haygood Road and that split. On the campus of buildings are also two elementary schools. The land, previously a farm, was donated to the city by the Williams Family, There are definite positives & negatives to the indoor pool. It appeared from my viewpoint to be slightly smaller than that of Bayside Rec Center. The walking lanes are fantastic for those who enjoy or need that experience for therapeutic reasons. But it does take away from the pool space for those who go to swim or just splash. There are outside activities that aren't available at Bayside. A large connected & fenced splash area was great for younger kids running through the water on a hot day. It gave the feel of a series of stationary underground sprinklers. I viewed an enclosed skate board ramp. Adjacent to that was something being used that was below ground level. I'm not sure what type of activity was involved. I didn't venture further down the meeting room hall. But the large glass window room in which my event was held was great & very accessible. One big flaw was the lack of handicapped parking spaces. I only saw four & had to park in hinterlands in terrible heat. This Rec Center is a great addition to this part of Bayside. It's walking distance from a lot of condo's & apartments. So kids can get there very easily in the summer. The Williams family's land donation is being put to good use.

But since then the situation has gotten better. The new building supervisor has a different way of handling the center and the problems have subsided.
