Here's what I've been asked to stop doing or even leave for: Swimming too slowly in the pool lanes Not playing tennis in the tennis court (my child and I were the only ones there, and we were playing) Bringing a child younger than 9 or 14 onto the track Playing basketball with a basketball brought from home. All the others are ALWAYS taken. They confiscated my ball. Going the wrong way in the pool. The lifeguard didn't realize that going against the current is a form of exercise. Walking the track instead of running Stopping next to the track Sitting on the exercise equipment. It had a chair that I chose to sit on for two minutes. No one was around. Today, two fellow members kicked me out because I had flip-flops on. They were right about it being against the rules, but it just reminded me of the pervasive culture of entitlement and snobbery that exists at this location. For context, I have memory issues, which is why I had flip-flops on at the gym.

My friend informed me Larkspur is a members-only facility, so you pay a fee (I'm assuming annually since I didn't ask) for membership. He and his wife rented out the facility for the evening - which turned out to be for 4 hours, so his girls and their friends could galavant and enjoy the amenities. Lifeguards were included with the rental - well, it's essential, but you know what I'm saying. Larkspur offers an L-shaped swimming pool, 2 tennis courts, an outdoor grill, an indoor banquet room, plenty of patio seating and, I believe, locker rooms. I didn't swim - I just wanted to get out of the house for a little bit (and the weather was perfect on Friday, 8/21!), see some friends and hang out. poor experience with personal training staff and with membership services…read more gym equipment was ok and i enjoyed coming to the location for several months. personal trainer was ok when they showed up. had a few sessions, but then however they forgot our appointment time three times and had to cancel our sessions. later when i tried to cancel my membership all of the cancellation process is via email and is separate from the local gym making the cancellation process unnecessarily complicated. they also want to charge a hefty exit fee. i show up at the gym to speak with staff and the manager and person in charge of the personal trainer section are not in during normal working hours. beyond them, there is no one at the gym to help me process the refunds and/or cancellation process. buyer beware

My calls are not returned, my emails go unanswered, and I have had the same experience trying to contact the manager. I really like the gym itself, but the lack of communication and follow-through is unacceptable. It was closed during the COVID time, then they renovated in the off-season, which stretched into the following year. The deck was resealed, and the pool liner was repaired. Subsequently, they were 'unable' to hire a lifeguard company due to it being 'too late in the season', and the pool remained closed. We are fortunate to have access to the military recreation facilities, so we were able to enjoy swimming outdoors in the summer elsewhere. The HOA fees which pay for the pool, were not prorated. All that being said, the pool is clean, and the lifeguards have been good over the last two years. A good number of chaise lounges and chairs are available both in the sun and the covered area. The pool management company seems to hire a lot of foreign exchange students from Eastern Europe. The association is a little pricey for guest passes. The pool management hardly enforces the 'no food in the pool area' policy. I would give the pool management a 2 1/2 star review, but the pool itself 4 stars.

The club is very easy to locate, but it is way off the beaten path of Virginia Beach Blvd. Turn onto Little Neck Rd. and travel approximately five miles to the club on the right. There is great signage which will guide you in to their lot. Plenty of parking is available for members. However, on swim meet days, or events it is strained. Overflow has been at the church across the street. Behind the main house is a huge open air grass space for holding out events that could be tented. The pool complex is very nice. As you walk in you will see a guard shack on the left the main building on the right. The clubhouse has a kitchen, a large open air meeting space with fireplace and restrooms. It is nothing fancy whatsoever, but it's well maintained. Smaller type of indoor events could be held here. There is a nice large splash pool for kids in the middle that offers different depths and a mushroom sprinkler. Also included is a small tube curly slide that is a huge hit with the kids. The main pool is rectangular with no bump outs. There are two diving boards, a one meter and a meter and a half spring board. The pool is six lanes 25 meter guttered pool and it's a real beauty. The concrete deck space is massive allowing for very large swim meets to be comfortably held. Little Neck swims in the Dolphin Division of the Virginia Beach Swim Team and goes by the name "Blue Dolphins" They are consistently the largest swim team in the VBSL with over 225 swimmers. You must be a member of the club in order to swim on the team. LN is very good team that wins titles. The officiating crew led by Meet Referee Bill Gill does a great job preparing the pool for dual meets. This is my forth year assisting the team and I have found their volunteers to be accommodating to visitors. The club has always run a first class swim meet and most years host the final championship meet "All-Stars" of the season. Although I cannot vouch for the tennis portion of this club I can tell you the aquatics portion is really top notch and many of the members I know personally friendly. If interested in a tennis/pool club this is one of the nicer one you will find in Virginia Beach.

Within five minutes of stretching yes, stretching in what we reasonably assumed was a designated area, a staff member approached my wife, my nine year old son, and me to ask my son's age. We were then informed, rather abruptly, that no minors under 13 are allowed in that area. Fair enough, rules are rules. Except those weren't the rules we were sold the day before. At signup, we were clearly told that members 13 and up may work out independently, while children 12 and under are allowed so long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. When we pointed out the contradiction, we weren't met with clarification... just a stern double-down. The issue isn't the policy. It's the delivery, the inconsistency, and being corrected in front of a child after being given conflicting information less than 24 hours earlier. SO HERE IS MY TAKE AWAY. Don't rely on the sales pitch. Read the fine print, ask for everything in writing, and understand that what's promised at signup may not survive your first five minutes on the floor.

The commentators at the event didn't really say anything about what was going on for each of the 2 minute jam sessions (if that's what they're called) and didn't really say anything about the particular players or try to get the crowd involved. It was fairly dead. There weren't enough seats set out for the people who were there. So, essentially I paid $12 at the door to walk into a really crowded old and outdated roller rink which had probably 50 or so chairs set out at the far end and there were maybe 150-200 people there so everyone else was forced to stand even further back. That's a lot of money to stand for two hours. They didn't have any half time entertainment so we all just stood around and waited for the time to tick away. So for people who hadn't been to a match before it was somewhat confusing and not at all entertaining. Big disappointment.
