We have taken our dog here for years and they were always so helpful and patient with her anxiety. Always recommend it here

While this is not a review on the vet that is currently practicing at this office it's a review of ultimately how things were handled and initial treatment of my dog. I took my dog here 11 years ago now for spay surgery. While recovery went well and no complications at the time occured I discovered 10 years later after she had an additional abdominal surgery for a tumor on her liver by another vet that surgical gauze had been left from a previous surgery- the only previous surgery she's ever had was her spay. Because of the left foreign matter in her abdomen her body -luckily- encapsuled the gauze which then adheared to multiple organs. To the extent that when we removed it during her recent liver tumor surgery a portion of her intestions and pancreas needed to be removed as well and everything sent for biopsy. While I'm thankful this is the "worst" that happened because of this negligence- the alternative was her going into sepsis and dying. So I guess pick your poison? When I contacted the office to report - essentially malpractice- initially I was left to feel ignored. My information was taken and I was told the owner of the practice (same owner as when the initial surgery was completed) would phone me back. After a couple follow up calls the office manager (not vet owner as requested) called me back to get my info and story. I eventually was put in contact with the owner Dr Dio. He listened and apologized and then informed me that vet was no longer there. But not why. Nor would he provide their license number so I could report this to the vet board. Ultimately after explaining the situation and asking for reimbursement of the additional 1600$ spent on the additional surgery and biopsy because the mass was unknown. He offered me free vet treatment at his office. (Y'all almost killed my dog? Why would I go back there for treatment??) When I expressed that wasn't satisfactory he then offered a refund for the initial surgery...$300. I again expressed this isn't what I good enough for the problem that occured. He left the phone call that he would discuss with his office manager and get back to me- surprise surprise- they never contacted me again. Once again- this is not a review on the current Dr pearson- I've worked with her at other vet offices in the past and she's wonderful. But this is reflection on how the owner Dr Dio handles situations that occur with vets under his practice. read more

I saw reviews before on her and let it cloud my judgement about a year ago when My beagle needed a serious neck surgery. she told me straight out what i needed to do and I didn't listen. I went to another vet and Dumped a lot of money on things that were not need and ended up going to the specialist she referred me to in the beginning. She is very quick and maybe you think she isn't paying attention but she absolutely is! So Naturally when my beagle was peeing blood a year later I went straight to her. She immediately said I think she has stones. And she was exactly right. We went through surgery today and she was so kind to me and called me as soon as my baby was out of surgery. I love Bayside Vet! Everyone is awesome there! I think of them as family because that is how they treat me and my beautiful poodle Pumpkin Pie. They have given excellent treatment, the prices are very fair, and they are able to help my poodle in magical ways. Dr Pearson had her license suspended and was put on probation for 5 years. I find it absolutely sickening after reading the things that this woman has done to animals she is still currently able to practice medicine. I can't believe I ever brought my animals here. I highly recommend going to a different vet where you have the confidence your animal is being cared for properly. In his private message he wrote that "there's more to the story" with Dr Pearson yet he refused to elaborate what that is to make me feel comfortable with continuing to bring my pets there which speaks volumes in itself. He was somehow able to get my review taken down because he claimed I've never been to his business. For my own privacy I did not feel the need to disclose how many times I've been to his businesses as he has my personal information tied to my account. But for the record Dr Deo owns multiple veterinary offices in San Diego and I had brought all of my animals to a few of these offices. There was nothing extremely out of the ordinary but after learning this information about Dr Pearson even though I've been loyal to this veterinary office for almost 2 years it made me question his judgement and I felt uneasy leaving my animals in the care of someone with this history. My animals can not talk and let me know if they are being treated poorly by their doctors so as a pet owner it is my responsibility to ensure I'm leaving them with someone trustworthy and Dr Pearson who almost lost her license due to animal negligence is not someone I'd feel safe with. I'm very disappointed in him as a owner but also Yelp as a company for allowing reviews to be biased and misleading customers from the truth. As a business owner he should not be allowed to make false claims in order to get negative reviews about his business taken down. I think this speaks volumes for the real reason Bayside has such a high rating on Yelp. Dr Deo is attempting to cover this up going to extreme lengths to do so. RESPONSE TO DR. DEO: You can claim all you want that I've never been to your veterinary office; that doesn't make it true. I have taken all of my animals, as well as numerous foster animals, to this location and to another one of your locations. The manipulation by this clinic is disturbing. I would not waste my time warning other pet owners if I hadn't personally had a bad experience. I am horrified that my dog, whom I rescued and nursed back to health, was scheduled to be spayed by Dr. Pearson. When I did my due diligence and looked into Dr. Pearson, I was shocked to discover her past, including that her license had been suspended and that she was placed on probation for five years. The fact that you, as the owner, stand by this behavior and go as far as to cover it up is horrifying. I searched everywhere trying to find a veterinarian to perform an ear cropping for my Cane Corso puppy. It's very controversial, and I only found Dr. Deo would possibly do it. I went to see him, and even he advised against it. Eventually, he agreed. Dr. D is one of the kindest, professional vets I have ever dealt with. His staff (especially Sarah) are compassionate, courteous and supportive. I live on the mountain, and drove past towns and the city to make this guy my veterinarian. He is well worth it! read more

This morning, my 9-year-old beagle, Sunshine, suddenly started urinating blood, and I was panicking, trying to find a vet who could see her. Every clinic I called was fully booked--until I reached out here. Ed immediately understood the urgency and made space for her, despite their packed schedule. That kind of compassion in a stressful moment meant everything to me. Dr. Deo and Kimberly were just as incredible. When I called in a panic because my dog was really hurt, Ed said to come right in and they'd find a way to help my boy. I gave this vet a shot after reading good reviews, wish I would have read the bad ones too. All of the vets here are arrogant and do not take time to listen to your pets history or your personal plan/budget to support your pets health. They rush through exams, the female vet barely acknowledged me or even looked at my dog longer than a few seconds. I had to reach out multiple times to call out lumps they overlooked. They jump to generalized conclusions and are pushy to have you do further expensive test, rather than identifying specific needs to your animal considering history/health plan/age. I knew my dog had a heart murmur. She is 14, I made it clear to them I would not be taking her to a cardiologist. They insisted on X-rays and told me I should have done this months ago. The doctor told me her heart was "in compromise" sparking stress that it was a critical situation. The quote for the exam, X-rays and bloodwork was $650. Then they say she must be on heart medication to keep her stable. Adding another $100 to the visit. As much as I appreciate the $100 discount this just brought the bill back down to original quote of $650. I felt bullied into doing test that did not help my dog in anyway, or supported our health plan. Literally throwing money out the window. After they take your money there is no follow up. No explanation of results of bloodwork etc. They do not have any bed side manor, they are business focused not care focused. Are poor communicators and take zero accountability. I would love to give a huge shout out to Sara! Probably the most knowledgeable, kind vet tech I have ever met!! She comforted us, explained things so well to us, she also took her time and truly made us feel welcome as new dog patients! Unfortunately, I can't say that about Dr. Ricky.. what frustrates me the most is that you don't even introduce yourself or make us feel welcomed! ODD! He was in there less than 5 minutes, picked up Chanel said probably a sting or bite prescribed the Benadryl and walked out! No tempature check.. which I was very concerned about. Dr. Deo is excellent, very competent, kind and caring. But Dr. Pearson is probably the worst vet I've ever seen. She is not friendly to the point of being rude, she shows absolutely zero concern for the animal, and she can't or won't answer basic questions. Unfortunately it seems like Dr. Pearson is the main doctor working at Bayside now. After 10 years as a happy customer bringing multiple pets to the usually great doctors at this clinic, after two visits with Dr. Pearson I left Bayside and found a new veterinary clinic. I simply won't subject myself or my pets to her lack of care again. Some of the older reviews mention Dr. Roza and Dr. Joseph. They were both phenomenal, but neither still works at Bayside. If you can be assured of seeing Dr. Deo, then I recommend Bayside. But if you get scheduled with Dr. Pearson, my suggestion is to pass and call another clinic. read more

Do not recommend Dr.Pearson!! she came in, didn't introduce herself, looked at my pets papers, told me she was confused why I was here, proceeded not to give me any information on trying to help my pet, not helpful at all and overall was just rude. The only reason I decided to stay at this place was because I met with Dr. Leo, he on the other hand was very kind and helpful and figured out the right things to help my pet and seemed genuine. Horrible experience at this Vet. We took our 8 week old kitten who was not eating, not drinking water, and extremely lethargic. Some Indian doctor saw him and charged us $140 for an exam and liquids under the skin. They tried to get blood (which would have been 400$) but his veins collapsed. We asked on severity - and the doctor said "just force feed him and bring him back on Monday or Wednesday to assess" on Sunday we took him to the VCA at night because we were very scared- the kitten would just lay there w eyes open. We had to put him down as he had Feline Parvo. We were heartbroken and feel like this vet was negligent and unprofessional- we asked them to please give him an IV and vitamins and they said he didn't need it. Shame on them- as we have lost a beautiful little soul. I would skip this place and go to Bayview Veterinary Center in mission beach. read more

Dr. Deo owns Bayside Veterinary Hospital and he is extremely skilled at treating family pets. A honest person and explains about the situation in common sense. He's always on the spot about the right treatment and throws in a little humor to put us to ease. Our Beaglepoo is 15 yrs old and we had been told by other vets in the past about her heart murmur but no vet did one thing about it. First time we saw Dr. Deo ordered heart medicine and her quality of life changed exponentially. I know her days are numbered but she walks and plays like a puppy. She's loving life again. This week our beaglepoo (15 yrs) had oral surgery to remove teeth and cleaning. We have been extremely skeptical about anesthesia at her age and delayed the procedure too many times. I am very grateful that we trusted Dr. Deo to get her teeth taken care of. Our baby came out of surgery with flying colors after the procedure eating, drinking, and normal. Lady was rude and ruined my experience , don't need to be talked to with so much attitude and unprofessionalism, last place I want to be attended like this after bringing in my dog for something serious, before heading to the vet we called the front about bringing in my dog and they offered a free consultation because we brought him in two days prior. We said okay brought him in knowing we'd come out with some charges because my dog was pretty sick. We told the kind nurse we were offered the free consultation and went ahead and told the doctor then some lady came in hostile asf asking where did we get the free consultation from. She had a black top and green bottoms. Don't know who she was but sat in the little office in the front. I was scared. Scared out of my mind. Do I go to work? Do I rush to the hospital. Oh my God!! I can't tell you the feeling of finding your 9 week old kitten baby under the couch not moving. Just this past Saturday, a week ago today, my son and I went to the humane society looking for a pair of cats. We wanted them to be about 6 months to 3 years old and already bonded. Well, none of those were compatible. Already full of bad habits and way too shy. They told us they had plenty of kittens. Oh why not take a look? Wow. They were all so cute. But this pair, Willy Wonka and Oompa Loompa were just beaming with personality. They tried to get us to look at more and we did, but these two, who we knew those names had to go, were the clear favorites. The connection between them, me and my son was instant. They were already neutered but had only received their first set of shots. So I found the vet nearest my home. Reading all the reviews and taking into account that you can't make everybody happy, I chose Bayside. This past Monday, I packed them back into their $12 Petco carrier, they love it because it's made of cardboard and they play in it constantly, and took them in for their shots. These troopers had no adverse reaction at all. They continued to be the fur balls of energy they had always been. Until Thursday morning. That's when I found Yahtzee, did I forget the mention that I changed their names to Yahtzee and Chee Chee? Well, Yahtzee was under the couch and refused to come out when called. Yes people. In less than a week my 9 week old kittens come when Daddy calls. I'm not new to cat. parenting. I'm a weight lifter so picking up my couch and throwing it aside like a rag doll to get to my baby was no problem. I could tell as I picked his limp body up in one hand with no resistance from him, he had no strength, that he was running a very high fever and just wasn't moving. I tried to get him to take food and water but he could barely stand and was shivering like he was wet. He wasn't. I wrapped him in a towel and he looked at me with those marble eyes begging me to make it better. I knew damn well that I was going to do everything in my power to do so. His sister Chee Chee, also knowing something was wrong, licked him in his face. I'm just heart broken right now. I left him with my son and went to work. I have to be at work at 7 and Bayside opens at 8. Believe me that at 8:01 I was on the phone. They told me that they had no open appointments but to bring him down so they could examine him between the procedures they had scheduled for the day. I called my son, he's 26, and had him to rush him right over. I received a call from the vet that he was running a fever of 104 and they were treating him. They didn't know what was wrong but they were giving him fluids and medication. Not my best day at work. I wanted to be there while they treated him in my lap. Well, after work I was able to pick him up after having the doctor's mandated tests drawn. Still very feverish and lethargic, I took him home where he immediately ate and took water. Yesterday, still very lethargic, he ate even better and was able to potty. That took all his energy and he climbed back into my plush blanket. By the way, he and his sister have commandeered this king size plush and soft blanket as their own and they are welcome to it. Now, the doctor has been calling daily to check on his progress. That...... is amazing to me. Just amazing!! Today Yahtzee is back to his old playful self. He still needs to rest between shirt exertions, but he does and all is good. read more

I took my two cats for their yearly visit. They both got their vaccines and the oldest was due for blood and urine labs. Once getting home my oldest cat experiences neurological side effects from the vaccine and I was told to come in for treatment. Everything was fine until this point. Once there they took her to the back & receptionist came out to tell me she had been given an antibiotic and fluids. This was confusing as an allergic reaction does not get treated with antibiotics. He went to clarify with the Vet 3 times of what was ordered. Which was scary to me because he came out with wrong information and said it so confidently. The vet who was in surgery, who had apparently not put eyes on my cat during this event was giving the staff these orders and none of them could confirm if my cat was receiving the accurate treatment for a viral allergic reaction. Besides this, my cat's weight was not updated in her chart so possibility of medicine dosage error is high. They had not documented which limb or side the vaccine was given in or which limb they drew blood from. This information was important because her symptoms consisted of her back right leg dragging and an altered gait with walking. Additionally they tried to get a urine sample by sticking a needle into her bladder and stated they were unable to collect one, but now she has a nodule or mass to her lower abdomen that wasn't there before. I called attempting to get a refund for the urine sample as I did not feel it was smart to return and receive care from staff that may not be qualified. They could be qualified but based on my experience and the inattentiveness to detail or accuracy in their charting, I can't be sure they wouldn't cause more harm or perform a procedure with out sterility or properly. The lady on the phone when I called calmly asking for a refund asked what happened and I calmly explained stating based off my experience I didn't feel comfortable returning for a second attempt at urine collection. She appears to be the type of person who believes speaking louder, more direct, and speaking over someone is how you communicate effectively. Mostly I felt she responded with ego versus emotional intelligence at the fact I had a valid concern that led to my question. Either way, I hope they learn to be more careful with information they bring out to pet parents, and they take time to do things safely and accurately going forward. read more

She's very throughout with the treatment plan and goes out of her way to deliver a positive long lasting experience. She and her team have also been extra helpful with our new puppy. This place has absolutely gone downhill since Dr. Joseph left (does anyone know where he went?) The current vets are not at all personable, very condescending, and do unnecessary testing without asking permission. I took my dog in for something very simple, and next thing I knew they were taking her to the back. I asked doctor why and he said "oh they're taking blood....we wanna do her senior blood panel while she's here." I've never had someone just start expensive testing like that without explaining that it would be beneficial or asking for permission first. ** ABSOLUTE INCOMPETENCE! AND AT A STEEP PRICE!! ** Would've given NO STARS but Yelp requires something! Brought our ailing service dog for urgent care. Initial doctor (Pearson) was quick to jump to conclusion without hearing full story. Required x-ray and bloodwork (both which showed nothing but a healthy dog!), after which Pearson gave no diagnosis. After a drawn out 3 hour process, we asked to speak with the owner (also a vet) who looked at the paperwork we provided and was able to determine our dog's joint pain was due to a vaccination the day prior. A total of 4 hours and $365 wasted could have been a simple 30 minute (at most) exam for $55. read more

We got two kittens and took them here for every shot and check up for one year but on my last appointment I was like, there has to be somewhere I could love to take my pets. I was pushed to go elsewhere because even months into 2021 I still couldn't go inside their office with the kittens. They kept us waiting out in their parking lot with the homeless people for 45 minutes, they also weren't that friendly, and the final straw was when I was quoted a price for deworming, and when we got there it was double. I questioned the bill and they said my cats were heavier than they anticipated so they gave them 1.5 doses each. I was still charged for 4 doses, not 3 which is what 1.5 x 2 cats equals. Keep in mind I had only taken the kittens here at this point so it's not like they didn't know their weight. It just felt a little off, I can't explain it any other way. Tried a new place and love it, so it makes me realize that we don't have to settle for mediocre care for our pets. read more
