However, since the departure of Dr. Pizzo and Dr. Schultz, the level of care has plummeted. Despite a visit just two months ago, the current doctors refuse to return a phone call regarding new travel related issues, insisting on a paid Telehealth visit for even the simplest medical advice. It is heartbreaking to see a once compassionate office turn into a money mill where long term clients are treated like a transaction rather than a patient. Then upon the supposed amazing exam they do they misinformed me of a concern I had on my puppies skin. Saying " it was in its fur" even though it was on his skin. Coastview has been such a gift during a really difficult time. My best friend, Rocco Taco (my 9-year-old Amstaff) has been battling jaw cancer, and as many fur parents can imagine, going through this with your first dog is incredibly hard. There's something really painful about needing monthly refills and managing his medication. It's a reminder that he's sick. I find myself avoiding the task altogether sometimes, and despite that, their team always meets me with so much grace. Dr Roque has been my vet for my dogs for over the last five years or so at another location. She has been like family during some excruciating times in the past with unfortunate diagnoses and losing my dogs. When I found out she had moved to another practice, here at Coastview, I did not hesitate to get all five of my dogs in, for a wellness exam and planning for upcoming spay surgeries. This practice is a very well-oiled machine. The staff is kind and nurturing to my dogs with lots of treats and special connections during their visit. The staff even gave my son and me a tour of the surgery suite, recovery area etc. This gave both of us peace of mind as we prepared for upcoming surgeries for our beloved dogs. A good vet is like part of the family. Dr. Rogue is one of the most kindest and knowledgeable vets I have ever had. She cares. CoastView veterinary hospital is amazing. I'm a registered veterinarian technician with exotics and I take my cats and dogs their. They have registered veterinarian technicians working on your animals which is an amazing standard these days. The difference is like having an assistant versus a licensed nurse working on you. They also use fear free techniques on handling your animals which really make a Hugh difference. My pets come home from the vet visit not hating the vet. They don't mind going to the vet now. The doctors also take a lot of time with you and explained everything in layman's terms so you understand what's going on with your pets health. I recommend everyone going to them. And it's especially nice that they have an urgent car too. No waiting 5-10 hours at the vet for emergencies. Your just drop them off and they triage right away. So very nice. read more

My friend have been telling me about Coastview for the longest time and I am so glad she did. I had my dogter for 12 years and of all the vets I have gone to, this was the first vetnarian where I felt they cared for my dog as much as I have. Staff/doctor: extremely friendly and as a fear free clinic, they really spend the time to get to make your fur baby comfortable (and bribing with delicious treats). very knowledgeable and will not try to push services but focused on having your pet happy and healthy. Location: easy parking and easy access to freeways. There is also Starbucks next door so your dog can get a pupachino as extra reward. Office/ cleanliness: very clean, rooms have toys for the dogs. We started going here about 5 years ago. They seemed very caring and knowledgeable. Something definitely changed. On our last 3-4 visits, I'm not sure we even saw a vet. The vet techs are very nice but it is obvious little to no experience. We brought our old dog with leg issues. They didn't even do a physical exam. We got no prognosis or what's your best guess? No explanations about possible causes. Had to hold him myself while they painfully drew blood. You have to wait about a week for any medication refills. When you call the staff is argumentative, defensive, and frankly rude. Their prices are OUTRAGOUS! Expect to be charged before an appointment and definitely if you miss one regardless of the reason. Super uncaring! Would definitely not recommend. read more

I have been going to Coastview since we moved to Clairemont in 2017. The staff is so caring and wonderful and I love their "fear free" environment. We have always been treated with empathy and respect, especially when they diagnosed our sweet boy with terminal cancer early this year, they were very supportive and answered my texts. I'm giving a three star review for the following reason: they have been very difficult to get an appointment to the point today they recommended I go elsewhere. A well established patient/visitor and I can't even get my dog in to see his vet. They started an urgent care and even their earliest appt for that is in 6 DAYS - which kind of defeats the purpose of urgent care- basically they schedule it so heavily you can't have any true sense of urgency and get in quickly. I don't understand why they don't leave appts available every day for that purpose...... They've also increased all of their costs quite a bit. They were already pricier than other vets, which I was fine with since we were so well cared for but my dog's allergy shot has doubled (to be fair he gained weight and needed a higher dose, supply chain issues, etc. but even before it rose from $50 to $75), their appt prices have gone up easily 50% and don't get me started on their deep dental cleaning costs. I am very sad to part ways with them, truly. I am genuinely grateful for them. But I guess they've just outgrown my business. read more

I just love how she is to KJ and how present she is when he's in for a visit. My dog KJ has been going to Coastview since I adopted him at 18 months old. When I pull up to the office, he gets excited and sometimes, if the visit isn't long enough (just going in for a vaccine), he refuses to leave! KJ recently had to have surgery, and their pre-surgical medication protocol along with detailed emails, phone calls during the procedures, communication after the procedure was over and overall care for my dog was exceptional. ive been here plenty of times and I cant remember it being bad BUT tims experience was just horrible. only Ryan, I think was his name, was the best of them all. he was sweet to my boy but one of the ladies stuck a needle in my boys bladder twice, almost going for a third time! just hurting him, she did not know what she was doing. my wife asked her if someone else could do it and she almost went for a third poke acting like she knew what she was doing but it was super obvious she wasn't confident which isn't what a dog parent wants to see when a needle is involved. but im glad she walked out and brought the original doctor back in. but she poked him again and still weren't able to get urine from his bladder. it was hard to watch.. unnecessary pain just for him to pee outside and them collecting the pee with a ladle. I was shocked... they also had to poke him a second time for extra blood bc they messed something up in the back. it was so much pain for one vet visit. all to still not know whats wrong with my son. ill be going elsewhere and if you care for your fur baby, I recommend going somewhere else. read more

What I appreciated the most was he listened to my routine and congratulated me for being a good pet parent. For a first timer, he probably didn't realize how much that meant. The support staff ALWAYS takes their time to listen to my pup's needs and my concerns. My little guy managed to get a feather stuck in his eye. He is talented, I know ‍. Not only did they help me not to freak out, but they gave me some advice. Here is the kicker...THEY CALLED ME BACK to check up on him! Twice! They actually cared about how he was doing and even asked me how I was doing! And I got a hazard fee! of $15 after one injection. My cat had surgery back in August and there was no hazard fee. The service is top-notch, and I like the convenience factor as the clinic is very close to my home. But I wonder about these inflationary prices.
