All though the outside may look old as stated below, it's what's on the inside that matters. Volleyball hours were changed and communicated to community months ago through internet and posted signs. Open play hours are always subject to change as stated on the posted calendar. During basketball season, coaches have priority to indoor courts. I'm grateful they offer open play volleyball and coach respectfully ends practice with youth at the times he is scheduled to. I would at least communicate concerns with staff and give them opportunity to explain reasonings. They definitely also are the type of people that would make an effort to try and work something out with patrons. GO MONSTARZ

As far as parks/rec centers go this one is just about the same…read more Basketball courts outside/inside, the outside courts get turned into a community pool during summer (see if they do it this year), tennis courts with lights if you choose to come in the evening to get a couple of games in Usually it's pretty empty except around summer and when sports seasons start start, that's when families have bbqs or events going in the park and the lower/upper fields are filled with pony baseball league or soccer matches. Grounds could be better maintained but still an ok park to come to if you're in the area. Not one to make a trip for.

Each court is very nice with its own scoreboard. The rims themselves aren't very hard, which allows a very nice roll. There are plenty of area for people to sit and enjoy the games. We decided to visit this location to get a nice low impact walk as a workout. The weather forecast…read moresaid that rain was expected so it was a quick 30-35min walk that we planned. When we approached the location, there was a co-Ed little league team ending their evening practice. There were about 5-7 cars of families packing up from the field and departing the lot. The parking lot can hold about 35-40 parked cars, with 2-3 handicap parking spots as well. The field is used by many weekend adult soccer players so Saturday and Sunday is normally jammed packed starting at 7am and ending about 6p. There are cars that line the streets in the neighborhood during this time. This recreational center is a very popular spot for little league games, adult soccer on weekends, the Neighborhood Festivals, birthday parties, recreation center clubs, and school break camps. The indoor space is rented to martial arts classes, birthday parties, baby showers, sports banquets, and other private events. The indoor space can hold about 40-50 people when they setup events. There is a half basketball court on the side of this recreational center but it is not marked up as a half court. It just has plain cement as a court, balls can be checked out from the staff when they are open. For Easter and other holidays they sometimes have special events that the City of SD Parks & Recreation Dept hosts, with our tax dollars, and they are great for the kids in the area. I especially like to see the "Teen Nights" as they offer at risk youth an opportunity to participate in meaningful and positive events. There is also free WiFi here. Overall, great location to take a walk on the field and nice place for little ones to play in the smaller playground.

Remember, this isn't a park with a huge play area (jungle gym, multiple slides, tons of swing sets, etc)- it's an athletic field. Sundays are predominately for soccer leagues accommodating different age groups. That grassy field is huge & towered by mature eucalyptus trees. The baseball diamond has a set of weathered bleachers that look like splinters are happy to poke your butt when you sit down on them. There are men/ women restrooms available. I have a longtime friend who is an official AKBC (American Kennel Bulldog Club) Judge & she has used Penn Athletic Field twice a year to host shows. The community of Paradise Hills launched it's first community gathering here in December '17- Paradise Hills Night Market- which showcased many residents/ alumni w/in the neighborhood to showcase their goods (art, food, music, etc.). First off, the Recreation part of the Community Center is excellent! The Community center has nice…read moremeeting rooms with a kitchen available. Plenty of parking. Today I went there for the annual Broadway Heights community organization breakfast. Comfortable with good food (mid-April each year). The Recreation Center has BIG front desk, weight room, exercise room, restrooms/locker rooms, Gym, Teen Center, meeting rooms too. All well kept. Great view of mountains outside of back of gym during your break. Nice modern design and architecture. Across the street is Mountain View Park with a small rec. center building. The park is pleasant on the north side, but a little rough on in the center. There is a baseball diamond with bleachers on the southwest corner. With rough grassy area on the southeast corner. The tennis courts have no nets that I saw and in very rough shape?? The basketball courts are in the center of the park and looked playable. There are a few picnic tables and some shade trees. A Brand New children's Playground is being constructed to be open in a couple of months directly across from the community center, but there is no street parking on Boundary Street, which is a one-way going north. You MUST use 40th Street via T st. to get to Mountain View Community Center. There is another park, Southcrest Community Park, that is just a few blocks south on 41st St. which is what Boundary St. turns into going south of Mountain View Community Center. Each court has its" one entrance gate which is great when you are playing a league or tournament less interference with players passing through you court. Improvements that have occurred over time have made the club more complete, more welcoming, better organized, tennis friendly and competitive with other clubs. They now have a "staffed club house/ pro shop, a key pad entrance door for members, and with the" court reserve" app you can reserve a tennis court any day of the week. The app is easy to use, with it you can reserve your court, check out a list of events happening at the club, review a calendar of events, review your reservations: upcoming, past, and canceled, keep track of your individual events and make a profile page. There are always tournaments, leagues and mixers to get involved with to sharpen your game and to meet new people. Tennis clinics are available for youth and adults beginners, intermediates and advanced players throughout the week. This club has a lot to offer and I am happy it is doing so well.
