Nice place for my grandsons to play. I got no hop, nor dribbling skills. Best to watch. Hockey & Baseball were my skills.

This is a review for the senior community center. I went here to pick up free breakfast and lunch…read morewith my dad. They all glared at me like I stepped in the wrong hood; maybe because I'm 30 years younger than the average demographic. These seniors get down for free rations lol. Be sure to like up well before they release at 12:30pm. It's nice and air conditioned inside and very roomy. The food is trash, but it's free and you don't exactly come where for fine dining haha. The park itself is cool. It's good for outdoor parties and events. I remember coming here as a kid and picking up a $5 bill (which was a lot for a kid in the 90's) that a lady dropped and got hella ice cream from the ice cream man haha.

I had a picnic here on Sunday. I noticed other families did too. There are about a half dozen…read morepicnic shelters, and several picnic tables that are un sheltered. The lawn is spacious, giving room for the little ones to run and play. There's a play structure they can play on too. A sidewalk skirts the perimeter of the lawn, making it a bit more accessible for folks with wheelchairs, canes, or walkers. Speaking or wheelchairs, I did see one round table that has room for a wheelchair. The restrooms, while not the cleanest in San Diego, were far from the dirtiest. It would have been nice to have toilet paper in the stall. Fortunately, it was not needed as I know this happens a lot in San Diego parks and I plan accordingly. There were dog walkers, and Frisbee tossers. I didn't see any kite flying though there is space for it. Over all a nice park to bring the family.

Our visit here was during an extensive weekend walk. The City of San Diego has done a great job…read moreimproving this neighborhood park. They have remodeled the tree area and walkways, cleaned up the turf, repaired the 1985 playground equipment, and given a better navigational flow for families. Now, if they could replace the old playground equipment, that would be indicative of the taxes being paid in the neighborhood. I do love how there are groups of women that gather here for their group workout classes. I do appreciate that there are no longer any homeless camps that line the sidewalks and bushes. This park is now a nice place to have a family gathering and the landscape scenery is great.

I rolled by this park today. Just for curiosity to see how it's been since I last skated here…read more This was a place for refuge, community, safety and peace of mind in regard to skateboarding. It was never a safe place, but it was the only place to skate without at the time, being chased, yelled at, obstruction from vehicles and pedestrians. To me. This is the unofficial skatepark in the south east area. I'm still amazed how the city is adamant on installing skate stoppers on the ledges. It's been how many years.. too many?! Since early 2000's when they installed them. I could see the history of the wasted skate stoppers the city spent. Many removed, many reinstalled. The park is better off just converting it into a street skatepark. That Charles l Lewis park is okay, but come on, it's pathetic and neglected. There's outdoor gyms more bigger than that skatepark. Parkside park should be updated. Similar to what they've done in Los Angeles communities. Nothing fancy either, just simple concrete short ramps, ledges, manual pads. An example, Los Angeles Stoner Skatepark can be done at parkside park. Parkside is such a large space that it can be used as that. This park has been a place to skateboard. For decades. Hell even Marc Johnson was skating here as early as the 80's (YouTube - Marc Johnson Right Passage skate video @ 1:06). The problem with the council member of this district is that they attempt to restrict and waste money on trying to stop things from happening; or they chose neglect. Regarding this park and skateboarding, instead of attempting many years to stop skateboarding here, maybe there's something to build upon instead.
