Fun island farmers market, although I do prefer the old location of it being in what is now the parking lot. The reason I give it 4 stars is because it didn't really have a wide variety of things, and nothing really stood out to me. It was in a unshaded, dry grass spot right next to a semi loud highway. But I do love local cute farmers markets like this so its hard to rate it less then 5. Definitely would come back.

A favorite of locals and island visitors who come to soak up the atmosphere, buy local produce, bread and flowers, have lunch, and peruse the arts and crafts. Open from late April thru the end of October. While I wasn't particularly impressed with the ratio of produce to art and crafts over the past few years, 2009 has brought an explosion of local, organic (or close to organic) farmers to the market, which is a great improvement! The 2010 season is looking good too!

This is a great place to spend an hour or so on a Saturday. Eat a little here, meet some nice people, and grab some ingredients for later.

My favorite time to visit is June-September. The folks of Capitol Hill get to pick their favorite fruits and veggies with their reusable bags in tow. The flowers and produce are vibrant and bountiful. It's good warm energy. I usually get here right when they open because there are minimal lines and I get the best picks of merch and snacks. I also get longer 1:1 time connecting with vendors. They're pretty friendly and they enjoy chatting about their products. After shopping I usually walk around Cal Anderson Park, sit near the Waterworks fountain, relax, and people watch.

I accompanied my friend here who lives in nearby First Hill, so it constitutes the surrounding area mentioned but is all the more welcomed now as aside from the QFC in the area, there are few options for food shopping. My friend picked up some fresh radishes, mushrooms and tasty homemade hummus from the various vendors in attendance. We also got a veggie panini from a griller vendor at the market. Overall, the market is on the small side focusing primarily on produce over products and other miscellaneous sometimes seen at the larger ones. This is kind of nice as there is a lower amount of foot traffic, but the options are more limited. Decent Farmers Market though if you have a fairly small list of things, you need without wandering too much.

Service I guess depends on the vendors but everyone is so nice. We grabbed few things- coffee from Hola Cafa (always good), Snohomish Bakery (cherry chocolate almond cookie and pecan sticky bun), and North Bend Bakery (maple bacon donut, apple fritter and tried the carrot cake).

The overall layout was L-Shaped with lots of fresh from farm produce, food trucks and stalls, bakery items, artisan goods, etc. Most were quite busy with shoppers and eaters. A park was right next door where people could enjoy their food purchases or just hang out. We tried the strawberry ranier cherries (now in season) which were sweet but I couldn't quite discern the strawberry flavor. However we still picked up a bag along with a half flat of local strawberries. Turned out the cherries were a bargain compared to the grocery stores we stopped by later. The crowds started to increase so weaved our way out.
