I really wish we had something more like this closer to home this Speakeasy-esq place (it's not…read morereally hidden but it's a flight of stairs up before the main restaurant which is another flight of stairs above this cute place) They outdid themselves with decor and dark ambience, the staff are super friendly and attentive while giving you your privacy. It's not large but there were plenty of tables and seats at the bar I honestly cannot remember the name of the drink I had but it hit the spot and wasn't too sweet (always a plus in my book) we also had the Trio of house made dips 3/5 which was chunky hummus, a dried tomato and walnut romesco and feta kopanisti with LOTS of pita bread. All in all a great place to stop into and chill was a great ending to our day. Will absolutely visit again!

I really liked The In Between's logo and interior design, it felt like stepping into the Prohibition era. We ordered a drink each from the Seasonal Summer Menu and shared a hummus plate. The drinks were nothing extraordinary but pretty good, and the hummus plate was a great shareable snack for the two of us. However, the service was super slow and frustrating. The staff were overextended since they were taking on both the bartender and server roles, so it was very difficult to catch their attention. We ended up having to approach them while they were in the middle of making a drink after trying to flag them down for 20 minutes and failing. We were in a bit of a rush towards the end so this was not the best experience, but definitely a bar worth checking out if you're not in a rush and have a lot of patience!

We've been coming to Freeland Café for a while now--easily 10+ visits--and it's become one of our…read moreregular go-to spots. Whether it's breakfast or lunch, the food has consistently been outstanding. The menu is available all day ,except for the BBQ, which starts around 1pm. My wife swears by the French dip, and I'd put their chicken fried steak up against anyone's--it's easily the best I've had. The omelets are huge and packed with fillings, and the breakfast plates are great value. You get the choice of hash browns with toast or a pancake the size of the plate, and both options are excellent (deciding is the hardest part). Lately we've been sitting in the bar area when we go in around lunchtime (usually Thursday or Friday before our weekly shopping). The bartender is fantastic--friendly, attentive, and makes a great Bloody Maria. Overall, Freeland Café has been consistently excellent for us: great food, generous portions, and reliable service every time. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

Man I love the vibes on Whidbey Island and spots like this are why. Such a gorgeous spot to stop…read moreand get a bite to eat or head upstairs to their cocktail lounge and just relax a day away. The vibes inside are immaculate as a kind of barnyard chic and the pizza topping combos are hyperlocal and fascinatingly unique you have to give them a try. Unfortunately my first time trying a pizza place must always be a simple cheese pizza so that's what I ended up with this time. The crust is cooked a little extra charred which can work well as long as the dough is moist enough, oiled well, and the pizza has enough flavor overall to balance it out. I wouldn't say that was the case here but I think there are many, particular NY/NJ/CT area folks who might prefer this style. Overall the pizza was just OK for me, a bit too dry from the extra cooktime/char and maybe dough hydration, the sauce not being as refreshing and bright as I like, the cheese as bursting with creamy milkiness as I want on these types of pies. But it still hits the spot and I'm happy I stopped here at such a cool little spot on such a great island. But for Whidbey Island pizza I'll probably stick with Village Pizzaria for now. Who knows, I didn't get to try the cocktails here so may need to come back for that. I did also get a smoked carrot dish that was a bit underwhelming for how cool it sounded, just a bit too much acid and fat without a lot of spice and flavor to balance everything out. Still may come back for the dinner-only pastas, I'm simply too intrigued by the chic menu recipes and chillaxing vibes here.

(And they had a nice, covered outdoor patio seating area, where our dogs were welcome!) However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! They do have beer and pizza -- but we opted for the salad (healthy) and the Pork Belly (perhaps not so much). Both were five-star delicious! And the view from the patio is also pretty darn nice. We'll be going back!
