    Fries come with the wings

You would be excused for thinking that BB.Q Chicken is an American style BBQ restaurant specializing in chicken. In fact, however, the BB.Q stands for "best of the best" quality and they specialize in Korean Fried Chicken. Inside has sort of a Pop Art vibe. There's plenty of comfortable seating. You order at the counter and then they bring your food when it's ready. Service was friendly. If you've never had Korean Fried Chicken, you're in for a treat. They have bone in pieces, wings and boneless nuggets. The chicken is hand-battered and slow fried to give it that thick, extra crispy texture. They have many cool sauce options. Many of them are sweet and spicy, but with different flavor profiles. Try Galbi, Gang-Jeong, and Honey Soy Garlic. The Kimchi Fried Rice was good. It was topped with a fried egg with a runny yolk. The dish had a little bit of a good sour flavor from the acidity. 4.5 Stars

I usually go to Bonchon but I was in the mood to try someplace new and a friend recommended bb.q. The place is casual with an eclectic funky design. I liked it. The two people working there were both really friendly and helpful since I was new to their menu. I decided to try the boneless Galbi fried chicken.... a little spicy, smoky flavored sauce. Chicken comes on top of crispy french fries with a side of pickled radish. Everything was really tasty. Definitely going back to try other flavors.

The food is always top tier, and the food always comes out piping hot and super quickly as well! Every time I go downtown I have to get their chicken!

I'd go back! The ambiance was fine. I really loved the frog stickers they put on the water jugs. Love frogs! They are so cute. I also liked the service and the food. I liked the pickled radish a lot. I also liked the boneless wings and special sauce. Galbi sauce wasn't as good but still fine!

Friendly staff (cashier/server), very attentive and creates a warm atmosphere. Been to a couple of bb.q chicken and it the chicken didn't compare to some of the other locations, nonetheless, still a solid establishment and place to get Korean fried chicken whenever you're craving it or in the area.

bb.q Chicken is one of those places I visit a few times a year when I get cravings for it. Today was one of those days. I've probably tried all of their chicken flavors at this point, so I decided to try the signature rice bowl this time, and I'm SO glad I did. The chicken flavor in this bowl was delicious and exceeded my expectations, and I loved the flavor combination with the onions under the egg and the sauces on top. I find that a lot of their chicken is too sweet, but this bowl had a great balance.

3 things about this restaurant: 1. The atmosphere is great. As a Korean, I feel like I'm back in my country because of this environment once you step inside the place. 2. The chickens are extremely crispy on the outside and extremely juicy inside. The chickens are cooked perfectly and I praise them for that. I wish they gave more sauces on the chicken and that's the only downside for this place. 3. Price doesn't get better than this. Bringing a Korean chicken franchise to the US with this price doesn't get better. Some might think the price is high but if you think about it, this is a popular chain in Korea and to have this in tri-state is amazing. Price is really similar to Korea. Overall, I have been coming back to this place and the owner is extremely nice. Very friendly and nice person to have a conversation with. Side street parking is available as well. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!

bb.q chickens food is so good, they hands down have the best fried chicken i've ever had, definitely recommend soy garlic and both regular and spicy galbi, those are probably the best flavors. Definitely get your hands on the boneless lunch combo, 6pc boneless, fries, rice, and a soda for only $13, honestly the best bang for your buck. I recommend trying this place if you haven't already.

Went to lunch to pickup and the service was fast. The honey chicken is really good. The interior is not that big so more of a pickup place.

Overall, the food was really good and exactly what I'd expect from a family-owned Korean restaurant--comforting, flavorful, and made with care. The soft tofu soup was satisfying, the garlic fried chicken wings were crispy, and the seafood pancake had a great taste and texture with a nice crispness throughout. My only minor critique is that I wish there had been a bit more seafood in the pancake, but it was still very delicious overall. One thing that really stood out was the hospitality. They brought out a complimentary steamed egg dish for my daughter, which was incredibly thoughtful and much appreciated. Small gestures like that really make a difference. The atmosphere was comfortable, the service was warm and attentive, and the overall dining experience was excellent. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in the area!

It was founded in 2002 and there are locations found in the U.S. and internationally. The first time I had BonChon was in Massachusetts and I fell in love with it. At this location in New Haven, CT, the restaurant had a high ceiling and a cool bar. The service was good and the food came out fast. BonChon is known for their double fried chicken wings. I had the 10 pc wings meal with pickled radishes. I got half-half of Yangnyeom and spicy flavors. I love the spicy, it definitely has a kick. I also love the Yangnyeom, which had notes of soy sauce from what I tasted. I like to get a side of white rice and Kewpie mayo to complete the meal. My family also got the takoyaki fried octopus balls; it's topped with Kewpie mayo, katsu sauce, and scallions. The balls were super good, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. My son's had the plain udon noodles which came out in a hot pot, so it was boiling; it satisfied their picky taste buds. My family and I had a tasty lunch there. I like the location because it's near a bubble tea place and a Korean corn dog spot. It's also walking distance to many other attractions. We parked at a nearby parking garage. Overall, I'm a fan, we had a great lunch, and will be back again soon.

They're double-fried to crispy perfection, hand-brushed with flavor, and typically come in two options: spicy and soy garlic. I have also never been to a sake bar. Have to say....I was underwhelmed. We came in last Friday and apparently it was slow because Yale was off (according to our waiter). If a restaurant is good they should not be slow on a Friday night. We sat by the door on a cold night and there were two other couples practically on top of us. Rest of the seating are high tops against a wall by the bar or up the stairs on another level. We would have liked to sit upstairs but they were closing off that area. Menu was complex as the restaurant is authentic Japanese. Lots of beef options. Lots of Wagyu. I was hoping to be blown away by this restaurant trying something different. I was struggling trying to find something to order that sounded appetizing. I knew going in that this place was authentic Japanese but I don't know, nothing sounded great to me. I love mushrooms so I got the Mixed Kinoko Mushroom appetizer which was $15. To add scallops was another $8. Mushrooms were tasty. Scallops were not. $23 for a small dish. I also got the pork short ribs. Not a ton of meat on them, however, nice flavor. I was still hungry after this so I ordered a dessert which was the best part of the meal. They get some of their desserts from Hen & Heifer which is a well established place in Guilford. I got the Ube Panna cotta. Boyfriend got the Black cod Yu-an Yaki and upgraded to add the salad, pickles and rice for $3 more. The pickles were maybe two bites. Salad tasty but again, very small. He said the cod was just ok too. Very small portions and pricey for what you get. $30 for a mini sake flight. Not impressed with how it was served either. Small tasting glasses just placed on the table with no description. The server explained which was which, but I didn't remember. Not sure if he didn't care or this is how it's normally served, but if you go to a wine bar/brewery, they provide descriptions with flights usually written underneath the glass, or at least serve it in something. Not just tiny glasses placed on a table where you have no idea what you're having. Especially for $30! I was not impressed with this place whatsoever. As this is part of a newer restaurant group with a few different locations nearby in New Haven, we then went to their cocktail Lounge on crown street (116 Cocktail Bar) thinking it might be better, however we were equally disappointed. It was dead in there and the bartenders were miserable. They couldn't wait to get out of there. I have heard that their hand roll bar is very good (Handroll on State St). We have been to their Grocery Store called The Loop and it's cute. They have a brunch at the Grocery/Kitchen location that looks really good. They also have a wine lounge at The Loop that I'd like to try.
