The chickens are extremely crispy on the outside and extremely juicy inside. The chickens are cooked perfectly and I praise them for that. I wish they gave more sauces on the chicken and that's the only downside for this place. 3. Price doesn't get better than this. Bringing a Korean chicken franchise to the US with this price doesn't get better. We first came upon bb.q chicken in NYC's Koreatown and have been on the prowl for it since. So we were happy to see a franchise open on Thayer Street in Providence and sped up I-95 to get our fix! I swear, they must put crack in their classic original fried chicken wings cuz I can't get enough of it. Honestly it's been a roller coaster when it comes to management but I can finally say this restaurant is in an excellent standing, the service has gotten better and I feel I may have judged too harshly at first as my expectations from the new york location set the bar really high. Ultimately with the change of management the service here is impeccable coupled with delicious Korean fried chicken, I dare say it's tastier then Bonchons right across downtown! My husband is a big Bonchon fan, so we were a little hesitant to try a competitor, but we overall really enjoyed our BBQ Chicken experience. It has become the new favorite! We arrived on a Friday night around 6pm, and the restaurant was packed! We got the last table. But about an hour later, most tables were available (see my photo). We had the sweetest waitress - I wish I could remember her name. She did a great job commanding the whole restaurant with her colleague and made us feel at home. She let us know upfront that they were out of boneless and that the wait was unusually long, about 40 minutes. We took our chances by ordering non-chicken first to hold us over, which worked out very well. In fact, our chicken came out in about 30 minutes. We first got Japanese beers (Hitachino) and Jjimdak, which I've never had before. We were warned that it is hot, and it definitely is. I loved the rice cakes inside the hot sauce. We opted for the Half and Half. It was huge! Their special sauce is mildly spicy and has a bit of sweetness. This was our favorite. The golden olive was nice, too. Unlike Bonchon, the pieces were more reasonably sized, and the breading:meat ratio was very good. The meat was so juicy! I wish we had had hand wipes. Menu is smaller than Bonchon's, but they do what they do well. I look forward to coming back and watching this spot get some traction. read more

I enjoyed a lunch order of boneless chicken this week, the honey garlic flavor. It was great. The chicken was cooked perfectly, with a nice crisp crunch and just the right amount of sauce. It was a fabulous lunch deal through Snackpass and the food was hot and ready on time as described in the Snackpass app. As you can see from the attached picture, it came in it's own special cardboard packaging along with the fries. The packaging I think kept it warmer than the normal Styrofoam that you would see. Being cardboard, it is probably more environmentally friendly but who knows. I wish the fries were a little crisper but everything was packaged nice and the drink came along at a great price. This isn't my first visit. I was here a few months ago, pre-Covid, with a client for a nice sit down. My client wanted hot and spicy and they delivered. We had the same sort of lunch special chicken, fries and a drink, and it was fabulous. I wish it could've gone a little quicker but I guess good food takes time. read more

From the greeting I had received when I arrived, to my food coming out in a timely manner and even how my server closed the door to keep the cold air out when he noticed that I was sitting there... (he did not have to by the way) but I appreciated that all the same. I went with both the Honey Garlic & Gangnam Style Wings and all I want to know is could these wings get any better? The Honey Garlic wings were both sweet and tender on the bite. Each chew came with a crisp that reminded me of apple pie aroma when near ones house and the pie is cooling by the window...Crisp as those apples but with Chicken Wing respect upon each one. Sweeter than Honey dew dripping on your finger....and those Gangnam Style wings with the green onions fighting temptation with flavor all because the garlic and peppers wanted to dance under the roof of my mouth and tickle each tastebud, I was impressed; to say the very least. While it is a franchise, the owner runs it like a mom and pop shop and is very involved with his customers offering free drinks and is always jovial and joking. As our New Haven trip was coming to an end, we got a hankering for fried chicken that could only be satisfied by the Korean variety. Having seen BBQ Chicken as a "hot and new" establishment on Yelp, we knew it was our duty as Yelp Elites to check it out. The place was packed upon entering and it was made immediately clear that they were quite understaffed. It appeared to be one lady both working the counter as well as bringing out the food. As a new business however, these kinds of setbacks are expected so we tried our best to patiently wait. For starters we got the calamari. While the squid itself was large and the serving size quite generous, there was a bit too much batter to thoroughly enjoy the app. With that scarfed down, we quickly moved on to the main attraction: an order of the Original Flavor Wings and their Spicy Variety (highest level of spice). This is where BBQ Chicken earns their 4 stars. The batter was crisp, but not so thick as to overwhelm the chicken. Upon biting into the tender wings, hot juice spilled out of everyone - a must for good fried chicken. The coating on the Original mix was not too overpowering and complemented the chicken quite nicely. Now here is where I warn everyone about the Spicy blend. THESE ARE HOT! All 3 of us are spice lovers and while we thoroughly enjoyed the taste, we found ourselves sweating and panting after the first one. It would have helped if they had brought out the pickled daikon BEFORE the end of the meal but hey, we did it to ourselves. All in all, this establishment serves some damn fine fried chicken, they just have a few bugs to work out which hopefully is the case by the time this review has been released. My friend and I ordered fried chicken, kimchi fried rice, fries, fried calamari, soju, and beer. The food arrived fairly quickly considering that it's made to order, and they were absolutely delicious! The workers here are super nice and friendly, and the atmosphere (including the interior design and seating) is just very positive, comfortable, and Korean. The rise of this great Korean chicken place, however, forms an important rivalry for people in New Haven: Bonchin vs. BBQ Chicken. Here's what I think: 1. BBQ chicken has much more options and flavors for fried chicken 2. I personally enjoy the atmosphere at BBQ chicken more than that of Bonchon: While BBQ chicken is like your good ol' small, cute, cozy, and friendly chicken and beer place to kick back at on a weekday night with friends, Bonchon feels much more like an expensive white restaurant with a sports bar that serves korean food. 3. However, because of that, there is more seating and workers at Bonchon 4. Bonchon has a much wider variety of Korean dishes in addition to just chicken. That is the only disappointing part to me about BBQ chicken: I wish they have more to offer than just fried chicken (they don't even have kimchi!). The kimchi fried rice here was absolutely delicious, so they definitely have potential in making more Korean dishes like that! That being said, it is called BBQ Chicken for a reason. I used to love this restaurant because their chicken is very crispy and delicious, but unfortunately, the service is only mediocre and the wait time is soooo long. When we got to the restaurant, we were waiting so long to get our water, eventually, I just went up and asked for it. After that, we had to wait another five min. I think the wait would be understandable if the restaurant were busier, but there were only five tables. Additionally, we waited over 45 min to get our two orders. I felt very bad for my friend because I got so hangry. I think would give this place 3.5 stars, but I'd rather round up than down. I'd probably order food to go from here, but I don't think I am going to come to this place as a sit down restaurant anymore. You don't get any side dishes like pickled radishes or kimchi - so that's no fun. I got the cheese fries, and it was that canned yellow "cheese" that's just no bueno. The fries themselves were decent though. I also got the boneless wings and there was sooooooooo much fried stuff on it I had to peel some of it off to not suffer an immediate heart attack. Then again some people may like that greasyity crunchity goodness. A buddy got the garlic wings and her breath was literally able to kill a vampire that was 10 feet away from us.
