We were exhausted from walking around this beautiful city and on the way to Victoria Station we noticed "BBar." I am so glad we walked in. First, it is located on a great corner location where you can people watch and there appeared to be a lot of locals coming in for dinner as the rear was packed. We had the drinks at the bar and if you are in the neighborhood I suggest you do the same because if Alex is working the bar you are in for a real treat. Let's face it, the personnel have a lot to do with how an establishment is viewed and Alex "makes this place." B Bar was a nice stroll from Buckingham Palace. Located at the end of the busy street, I was conveniently located after a long tour. The decorations were of an African Safari. Wasn't that tacky actually. We had the Super Salt Beef Sandwich on rye bread, broccoli coleslaw and pickles. This was definitely their most famous dish. The beef was moist but the sandwich was plain - no toppings. EXCELLENT pickles; kind of small but they gave us 4. The broccoli slaw was weird. We also bought the African Burger, which consists of wild boar and venison, fried quails egg, cinnamon marog and Chakalaka relish. Well-cooked. Side of sweet potato fries made the meal - sold separately. Overall, the place is good because it's close, delicious, and good for people-watching. read more

My wife and I were on our honeymoon in Europe and had a great dinner here! We loved the decor, there is an African/safari theme to it, which sounds cheesy, but it was actually really chic and well done. Food and drinks were quite delicious, and the service was stellar. We had the Wagyu beef burgers, and I had a vodka martini. The only snafu was for our appetizer, we ordered what we thought was an Artisinal breads and olives plate for 5 pounds, but it was just the breads. The olives were a separate item and an additional 5 pounds (the two were printed on the same line of the menu, it was a bit confusing). Other than that, I would have given them 5 stars. read more

This was our late breakfast place. My husband had some elements of an English breakfast: eggs, mushrooms, bacon, and sausage. I had spinach, grilled sheep halloumi (cheese) and tomato hummus with two hashbrows. I loved that my sandwich was served on a wooden cutting board. The flavors were great. I'll be honest - when my date suggested a South African restaurant, I was not particularly delighted. I say this as the child of two real life South Africans - I've spent many months in the country and its cuisine is not its strong point. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of fantastic restaurants (I'll tell Yelp Cape Town about them next time I'm over), and a braai is certain to hit the spot, but stuff like bobotie and bunny chow isn't doing it for me*. As expected, I didn't love the menu. Still, about half of it didn't really seem particularly SA, just generic restaurant stuff like steaks or burgers or fish and chips. And these were rather pricey - something like £19 for the fish and chips! This is in line with the image bbar seems to be trying to portray, of being sophisticated and elegant (so therefore pricey). The toilets give away that this is just an act. Anyway, I ended up with a pork belly burger - which in all fairness was gorgeous, if rather fatty. Quick shout out for the cocktails. I had two different ones and my date had two of the same - his was a standard mojito, while one of mine was a berry mojito and the other was a vodka/honey/lime thing. I can't tell you the exact names because the menu on their website has obviously changed. But I doubt it matters what you have as all three were super delicious, as well as being pretty generous glasses. Sometimes a long cocktail menu is a bad sign, but I'd be happy to come here just for cocktails and try out all the sections (even if the South African section does sound a bit bizarre - e.g. the elephant's reverie, with Amarula Liqueur, Frangelico, Bols Banana Liqueur, Fresh Cream, Chocolate and Kirch cherries). *BIltong is the exception. All hail biltong. It's just hard to have as a whole meal. read more

Very friendly service but a somewhat mixed experience with the food and drinks. Started with the chopped salad and a Manhattan cocktail. Salad quality was fine although it was served in a ice cream glass which looked pretty but yielded about 1/3 the amount of salad I expected. Manhattan was one of their menu-listed cocktails, it was very watery and too heavy on the bitters. So far I'm not that impressed. My main was the African burger which was excellent in presentation, flavors, and meat temperature. I was impressed, the meats (boar and venison) are really easy to overlook, but they got it perfect. I'll come back, but I'll stick with the burger and a pint next time. read more

Came here for breakfast because it was next door to our hotel. The decor is super cute (it's a south african restaurant). I had a breakfast sandwich (egg, spinich, cheese, tomato) and my friend had the traditional English breakfast. Normally the "traditional English breakfast comes with baked beans, but since this is a south african restaurant, they put a new spin on the beans and they were DELICIOUS!! Kind of in a chunky tomato sauce?? Service was great (but we were the only people there that early in the morning). Heard they have a nice crowd at night. read more

The comfy armchair style chairs were a nice addition to the already lovely restaurant and were especially great after a long day on our feet shopping! The place has a kind of African theme going on (but not the menu which is varied if not very large) and very relaxing. We had a two course pre-theatre menu and everything was delicious. The restaurant also has an extensive cocktail and wine menu. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time and I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area. read more

This restaurant has a special dinner for Valentines day which interested me so I treated my wife of thirty-five years to a special meal. We started with a Ostrich carpaccio with truffle oil as a pre-starter and then, for the first course we shared a platter containing Bobotie spring rolls, with Mrs Balls chutney, grilled lamb and apricot sosaties with curry sauce, and Cape Malay chicken and peanut sauce. We could choose any three of five dishes. Then the palate cleaner which was Rooibos (Redbush) jelly topped with Vanilla Pannacotta. Then to the main course which we also shared from a huge platter. We chose grilled Springbok fillet with toasted walnut oil shot, grilled Boerewors saussages with "tomato smoor", oven baked Kingklip (Indian Ocean fish) with citrus beurre blanc and seared lamb cutlets with "red wine jus". We could choose any four from a choice of seven. These were served with seasonal vegitables. Finally for dessert, we chose Amarula crème brulée, warm Cape brandy pudding with toffee sauce and traditionally home made South African koeksisters. Here we could choose any three from a choice of five. We came from an advert in a London weekly called "The South African" and because of that were given two glasses of a South African bubbly from the Simonsig wineries. We chose a bottle of excellent pinotage and with the dessert, we each had a glass of Chenin Blanc dessert wine, yes you can get it as a dessert wine! The whole place produced a quiet atmosphere and it reminded me a little of a Pall Mall club! Subdued lighting and a lot of brown wood about. the standard of décor was very good and the only complaint we had were that the tables were too small for two. However as this sort of menu is only for special events, I guess it is fair that they don't make the tables larger. Their standard menu is functional but nowhere near as exciting as this special event menu was, but a whole lot more inexpensive. Our special meal for two, including wines came to £128 and we came away feeling we had "value for money". Service charge is not added which pleased us both a lot as when I tip, I don't work on percentages but on money, so give a higher percentage on low cost meals and a lower percentage on high cost meals. My thinking is the waiter/ress needs a certain amount per table whatever is spent. In fact, now that it is the morning after, we still felt we had excellent value for money. The food portion came to £37 per person and they had really made an effort to showcase good traditional South African cooking. read more

So glad that we stopped in to B Bar. It was right next to our hotel, so we decided to pop in. Everything was wonderful- the burger, the Cobb salad (which is the best I've had) the cheese plate for dessert, etc. Try the honeycomb ice cream -it's amazing! After taking the second bite because I couldn't believe how bad the first one was the stink sat on my plate for 20 minutes while the wait staff stood around talked with each other, instead of checking on the second of two tables in the restaurant. Classic Caesar salad with grilled chicken is best I have had in a long time. Freshly grilled chicken perfectly done and nice and warm on salad. Romaine extremely fresh with bacon pieces. Just enough not overpowering. The dressing drizzled on the chicken and mixed just right on the greens- again not too much and just a hint of anchovies. Shaved parm and small croutons top off the salad. With a nice Chardonnay and very friendly staff , I had a terrific lunch in London. read more

this is a really good option if you're in the victoria area looking for something to eat.other than a bunch of standard chains, there's not much in the vicinity so i'm glad to have somewhere like this on my radar. i came here with work colleagues, as we are based nearby and get discount with our security passes. it's south african themed and there are pictures of safari animals everywhere, which pleases me a lot. animals are my favourite. the menu is mainly burgers, but it does have other options - fish, pasta, snackier things. most of my group ordered variations on the burger, and i settled for the salt beef sandwich. normally i don't eat red meat, but it came on rye bread with pickles and broccoli coleslaw and that sounded too delicious for me to resist! at standard menu prices, £11.50 seems a little steep for what i was given, but the discount made it more reasonable. the food was of excellent quality. my sandwich came with a little three part tray of different mustards - so fun! the salt beef was super good, and piled high on that sandwich, and they were very generous with the amount of pickle on my plate (which is excellent, because pickle is another of my favourite things!) the burgers are pricey and don't come with chips (£2.95 extra), so it IS expensive, but honestly, compared with the rest of the offerings in the area, i'd rather pay a bit more and receive a more enjoyable meal, so i'm okay with that. the atmosphere is great, and the wait staff were really wonderful - friendly, helpful, smiling. will definitely return! read more

My wife took me to the restaurant after eating here last year with our daughter. An easy walk from Victoria Station, the decor is African Safari but well done, warm and comfortable. The food was amazing! I had a Ceasar Salad with Chicken that was one of the best I've had. My wife had Duck Confit that was very tender and flavorful. We shared a starter of lamb skewers with apricot; the lamb was a little chewy but very flavorful. The wine selection was huge; something for everyone at any price range. The service was attentive. Stumbled in here on Friday early evening while trying to find a good spot to sit and catch up with a friend. Not too busy but also with a good atmosphere, staff were very attentive, excellent service overall. We both had the cheese burger, which we asked for medium rare. It was very tasty and cooked pretty much spot on. Side order of fries was small, but given the size of the burger you don't need much. Decent selection of beers, not massive but enough variety to keep most happy, my friend opted for a cocktail and was happy with it. Think we might come back here again! read more

Incredible! Loved it! We are a foodie family and needed a place to have lunch right before our tour of Buckingham Palace. We have a 10 & 13 year old sons and they both ordered "cream" sodas, which had pasta as straws that they loved. Which are not the American cream sodas. Amazing! Their cocktails were creative and delicious. Both boys ordered chicken soup which was the best broth I've ever tasted. I had the lunch portion fish & chips and the fish and beer batter was just wonderful!!! It was fantastic!!! Absolutely loved it! My husband had salted beef, again delicious! We were staying next door at the Rubens at the Palace hotel so we walked by this place more than a few times. we were a little bit tired and hungry after a day of sightseeing, so we stopped in for a bite. We were seated promptly and given menu's and then waited for a good 15 minutes before we asked a staff member to take our order. We ordered a bread basket-so good! Burgers and fries and the best thing on the menu- wait for it- Chicken Noodle Soup, yes that's right the best chix noodle soup in the world is at this little place. I urge you to seek this place out, order soup and a burger, hope the waitstaff is having a good night and enjoy! read more

My only reason for not giving B Bar 5 stars is that the outdoor and/or window seating is sparse. Other than that, I loved it. Loved the generous pours, the gluten free food recommendations (tough to get without sass these days), and the staff's attentiveness--Although, like most places in Europe, you do need to ask for water and refills. I highly recommend for an afternoon drink, tea, lunch, or book reading :) read more

What a lovely respite we had at this lovely place! Stopped by late afternoon for some snacks and libation. The Crimson Crush was delightful and refreshing as we watched the Wimbledon match on TV. We enjoyed chicken satay and veggie samosas with our drinks, and had a terrific chat with the owner/manager who hailed from Kenya. My only complaint was they added on both a 20% VAT charge and a 12.5% service charge. Every other restaurant in London includes the VAT in the price.
