After a visit to St. Paul's and a trip to the top, my companion and I were in need of refreshment, and the rain situation prevented any type of long journey to achieve it. Enter Duke & Duchess.
We were the only people in the bar (too late for lunch, too early for dinner), so the menu options were a bit scarce if you were looking for a small bite and not a full meal. After a bit of back-and-forth with the wait staff, we realized that we couldn't get items from the snack menu (too early), so we opted for a bowl of minestrone soup and a "cloudy" apple cider. I'm not usually that big of a fan of minestrone, but their version is super flavorful and comes with delicious bread to dunk in it. The cloudy apple cider was one of the best ciders I had while I was in London, though it's from Strongbow so you'll probably be able to find it in a lot of different places.
Made the mistake yet again of ordering water that I had to pay £2.50 for (I'll remember that cultural difference one of these trips), but overall it was good food and fine service. I don't know that I'd seek out Duke & Duchess if I wasn't in the area, but if you're there and in need of a pit stop, you could do much worse. read more
