Inside the main dining room. Dig the farm tool decor.

I sometimes head up to the BBQ Barn; it's my occasional Saturday "hideaway" and a great reason to take a drive through the countryside. Any restaurant with the word "Barn" in its name (Angus Barn notwithstanding) suggests certain things, and the BBQ Barn won't be any surprise here. It's typical southern BBQ fare, and it's served in a sort-of lunch cafeteria style (slide the plastic tray down towards the register) ... but it works, and the people there are extremely friendly and always willing to chat. They seem to have a devoted following of locals, which tells me that they're doing something right, and the adjoining dining room is perfect for Ruritan club meetings, little local political shindigs, and all sorts of other social happenings in a little rural community. And that's two-thumbs-up in this diner's books.

BBQ combo with yams and hush puppies

Whenever I visit NC, I need to have Carolina BBQ. This place is a little hole in the wall; the prices are good, the pulled pork is tasty, and the sauce has a good kick of vinegar. The hush puppies have just the right consistency, nice and crispy on the outside, and just the right amount of sweetness. I also enjoyed the yams on the side. Everything was satisfying, I even went back for a second sandwich (for $3.40, how could I not?) Worth a stop if you're in the area and looking for BBQ.

This is my place of choice when eating in Butner, the service is great and they have great family style meal specials daily....

The other name for the BBQ Barn is the Pink Pig. Stopped for breakfast and while the biscuit was okay, I've had many better. The sausage had a pleasing bite to it. They were out of fat back, I know but I like it. The friendly staff and the numerous locals are worth the visit. I'll be back for lunch next time.

Good BBQ but NOT a good example of Southern hospitality. Rude, unfriendly staff.

The space is a little tight but they do have outdoor seating which worked perfectly for our group. I also loved that they served cocktails in to go cups. The food was outstanding - a melty, crispy edged smash burger with a side of cheese tots, yum! We also got the chicken tenders and fries for our daughter and the bites I tried were delicious. This will definitely be a spot we visit when we want something quick and scrumptious if we are in the area!

We both had a classic burger (him with no pickles, me with no special sauce), shared an order of fries, he had an IPA and I got a blackberry mojito for about $40. The good: The fries were amazing (shoestring fries are my favorite)! The amount of pickles they put on it were phenomenal! The drinks we awesome and the vibe was outstanding. The employees were friendly and helpful. And I feel like everything was priced well and appropriately. The not so good: The meat was just meh and the onions were straight up burnt. Not caramelized, burnt. Overall, the burger was decent, just not great like we were hoping. We sat at our table for quite some time and had a few drinks. It was busy but never too crowded. There was a line but it moved quickly. I would reccommend this place to grab a quick bite before a DPAC show!

I was hoping I would not be disappointed. Downtown Durham on Parrish Street I do believe. I went there midday and there was a sparse lunch crowd already seated when I arrived. The warmly lit space presents nice aesthetic as you walk into the restaurant. A very chill and comfortable atmosphere. I love the bar and the mirrored wall nestled behind it. The spot is pretty laidback and very clean, but has a bit of a rustic nuance to it as well. I like that. The serving staff were extremely nice and helpful towards advising me in making my selection -- with me being a first-timer and all. I kept it simple...I chose the Classic Burger (pink) with pepper jack cheese, bacon marmalade, and as a side, I had to go with the Dirty Fries -- 'cause that's how I roll y'all. About the food: I have to say, the burger was staunchly built and crafted with artistry. Nice and tall with a seriously tasty bun encapsulating everything. Perfectly well-seasoned meat and the first bite was simply delightful. I noticed as I got towards the center of the meat, it was bit less juicy than the surrounding parts of the burger, but nevertheless still tasty. My Dirty Fries were delicious In the end; the experience as a whole was quite delightful and I would definitely like to go there again -- perhaps try a different burger to expand upon my experience with this place. Gotta try out That Bar y'all! I do recommend it for those who haven't had a chance to go by there to check it out.

Even before me an my party entered we could hear music playing from the building, which kept the vibes up! Moving onto the food, a certain menu item caught my eye. Something that I'm legally obligated to keep quiet about... but let tell you- this burger was Gooood. This "Signature Secret Burger" was rather unique, as it was like you took a pretty simple egg burger, and just ramped it up. My initial thought when I first tried it was that it was a burger squared, the mystery ingredients amplified the flavor to make such a savory meal. It wasn't to overbearing like many other burger places that I've visited, not immediately making me feel fat and full after taking a few bites. Our party also ordered a whole quart of fries, and they were SO GOOD!!! I'm a sucker for good fries, and you knocked this out of the park! Your fry soft was nice and mellow and complimented the fries perfectly. (And even afterwards, the fries warmed up really well and were still Really freakin' good!) Finally, during my visit, their anniversary event (Happy 15th By The Way ) and they were offering FREE DESSERT for someone who happened to sit in a randomly chosen seat. And by the luck of the gods my little brother found his way onto the seat! It was just really awesome to see a restaurant doing such awesome things for their birthday, y'don't see that every day! Overall, this place is definitely a place to stop by if you're in Durham. If you're in the area visit IMMEDIATELY if you love good fun food!

Both were good. So was the overall experience. I decided to come back today and try out the shrimp burger. When I showed up, there was a couple waiting in line at the cashier station. It was unmanned so we waited for the next available server to be done serving at the tables. One said that she'd be there soon to get their take-out orders. So I went to an available seat at the counter because I wanted to dine in. When it didn't appear that the server was taking any orders from customers at the counter, I went back to wait in line at the cashier station. I did not see a menu on the wall. Not a good thing when one has to order at the cashier station. It was at least 5 minutes before I was helped. The server looked at my baffled face and asked if I needed a menu. When she was available again to help a few minutes later, I ordered a lil' size shrimp burger and tater tots. When she asked about choice of drink, I declined thinking it was a separate charge. It had been a year. I forgot that the Classic Eats combo meal included a drink, and didn't notice that the menu said so. The server did not point out that the drink was included. Since I ordered at the cashier, my order was served in a brown paper bag. The shrimp burger was wrapped in aluminum foil, and the tater tots in a paper box. No basket trays with paper liners like last year's order, or the orders of customers sitting next to me. I enjoyed the shrimp sandwich but was unhappy with the experience overall. After finishing my order, I could not find a trash receptacle to dispose the paper bag, foil and box. I threw them in a trash bin outside. A minor quip about the men's restroom: the toiler paper dispenser was lopsided but was otherwise functioning properly. There aren't any fast food places in the area that serves shrimp burgers. So if you want one, you are stuck with Hwy 55. Otherwise, I don't recommend this place.

I knew she was going to be amazing after watching her with other customers.. She cares, helps them even with personal stuff, and looks out for them. You can tell there are regulars, they love the people and the restaurant. I love that vibe! I knew it wanted to try several things so I only orders appetizers. We got Chorizo (not tradional, more like a sausage) which came with fries, Provoletta and Log Jammers. She was right... the Log Jammers are addictive, but being a cheese person, my fav was the Provellta - so fabulously cheesy. The sausage was very good as well. My only swith up on things qould be the sauces... which you can do. The 3 mustard sauce comes with .the Log Jammers - pare that with the sausage. The herb vinegar that come with the Log Jammers, pares best with the Provella. And last, but not least... pare the Boom Boom sauce with the Log Jammers. Fabulous! We also got Ribs and mac and cheese. The full rack was huge and had ao much meat. The rub on it was delicious and I'd recommend the spicy bbq sauce which pares well with the rub. The slaw is NOT to mayonnaisey but is sweet. The Mac and Cheese seems to be on the homemade side - creamy but not like it's all processed cheese - more real cheese. Then it's baked with a nice layer on top. We had a great experience and even though I don't usually go to a restaurant more than once, I will be back. The food was great and the people and friendly atmosphere made it so much more.
