I've been hearing about this Bull City Burger spot for over two months, (noted for their tasty grass-fed beef) and in watching the reviews -- I figured that the experience should be very pleasant; to the eyes and the palate. I was hoping I would not be disappointed. Downtown Durham on Parrish Street I do believe. I went there midday and there was a sparse lunch crowd already seated when I arrived. The warmly lit space presents nice aesthetic as you walk into the restaurant. A very chill and comfortable atmosphere. I love the bar and the mirrored wall nestled behind it. The spot is pretty laidback and very clean, but has a bit of a rustic nuance to it as well. I like that. The serving staff were extremely nice and helpful towards advising me in making my selection -- with me being a first-timer and all. I kept it simple...I chose the Classic Burger (pink) with pepper jack cheese, bacon marmalade, and as a side, I had to go with the Dirty Fries -- 'cause that's how I roll y'all. About the food: I have to say, the burger was staunchly built and crafted with artistry. Nice and tall with a seriously tasty bun encapsulating everything. Perfectly well-seasoned meat and the first bite was simply delightful. I noticed as I got towards the center of the meat, it was bit less juicy than the surrounding parts of the burger, but nevertheless still tasty. My Dirty Fries were delicious In the end; the experience as a whole was quite delightful and I would definitely like to go there again -- perhaps try a different burger to expand upon my experience with this place. I'm going to open by saying that the fun and humor of this restaurant is amazing. The interior is nice and vibrant, with a perfect mix of minimalist and maximalist designs in the building (especially with the brewery apparatus being visible--which is awesome!!). Even before me an my party entered we could hear music playing from the building, which kept the vibes up! Moving onto the food, a certain menu item caught my eye. Something that I'm legally obligated to keep quiet about... but let tell you- this burger was Gooood. This "Signature Secret Burger" was rather unique, as it was like you took a pretty simple egg burger, and just ramped it up. My initial thought when I first tried it was that it was a burger squared, the mystery ingredients amplified the flavor to make such a savory meal. It wasn't to overbearing like many other burger places that I've visited, not immediately making me feel fat and full after taking a few bites. Our party also ordered a whole quart of fries, and they were SO GOOD!!! I'm a sucker for good fries, and you knocked this out of the park! Your fry soft was nice and mellow and complimented the fries perfectly. (And even afterwards, the fries warmed up really well and were still Really freakin' good!) Finally, during my visit, their anniversary event (Happy 15th By The Way ) and they were offering FREE DESSERT for someone who happened to sit in a randomly chosen seat. And by the luck of the gods my little brother found his way onto the seat! It was just really awesome to see a restaurant doing such awesome things for their birthday, y'don't see that every day! The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. Loved the fact that they had sugar cane sodas as well. Really enjoyed the fact that there beef burgers were grass fed and ground in house. I had the burger with the fried egg and bacon. I chose the gouda cheese sauce for it which was really tasty. Loved the fact that it was a juicy burger and not a dry one like some burger joints are. Vegan burger review! Every once in a while even the vegans want a burger (aka me) so anyway I went to bull city brewery. The burger was yummy, nothing super unique, but I liked their vegan patty and thought it was moist and well flavored. I think it was a little expensive to come with no sides at all? but I don't think that's unique to the vegan burger. Anyway, I enjoyed the drink (blueberry mojito, a special at the time) a lot, and noticed that they have craft sodas on tap (super fun). The vibe is casual and woodsy, and the food came out in good time, though ordering at the front can take a while, since they only have one register. I think that the range of non-beer drinks they offer sets them apart a bit from other breweries (with the sodas, the specials, a few cocktails), which I really appreciate as someone who does not enjoy beer. They also tend to run drinks on a theme (i.e. when I was there they were offering like 7-10 different blueberry flavored drinks, both alocholic and non-alcoholic), which can make returning here fun. Overall, a good experience. They have some fun offerings, and a solid vegan burger. read more

Wow, what a burger!!! I ordered the "Over Easy" burger- burger, egg, and double smoked bacon. I added the homemade pimento cheese- which was creamy with a strong pimento flavor (I don't usually like pimento cheese, I ordered it because it was homemade, and it's fair to say I loved it). The burger meat was fresh, juicy (REALLY juicy- grab extra napkins), and cooked to perfection. I like that you have the option of over easy or over hard eggs (they're just just missing the best one, over medium), and that you have the option to have the burger cooked at different temperatures. I also ordered the "Signature Duck Frites"- which are labeled as "very skinny fries"- they really should state they're shoestring fries. I really liked them but didn't expect them to be just that- I would've preferred a fatter fry. SEVERAL sauce options available on the menu, the garlic aioli was amazing. There are also several toppings options available for the burgers. I'm not a big beer person, but appreciated they had 1 sour beer on the menu. I liked that you could go inside and order, and just grab a table outside (dog-friendly area with picnic tables). Very casual and easy, delicious food, and service was really nice! Definitely will be returning to try another burger! Note- my partner tried the "Signature Secret Burger" which I tried and also tasted AMAZING. Out in the Raleigh/Durham area for a business trip with some co-workers, and decided to hit up something a bit different from the typical customer/supplier visit... and I'm not sure what I was expecting exactly. We got here about 4:30 for a frosty beverage before the others showed up. I had the Dunkelweizen, which was very tasty, but they didn't have a big selection of any whiskeys or bourbons. But it's a brewery, so it's somewhat expected. Any how, the rest of the crew arrives, and we walk up to place our order. Keep in mind there was only one person in front of me... sadly... it was an easy 10-15 minute wait... kind of frustrating but whatever, I wasn't pressed for too much time. I ordered the Over Easy Burger, but asked that the egg be over hard, and added their homemade pimento cheese. It came with bacon, but those prices do not include fries. So I ordered the Duck Frites and the Deep Fried Pickle Chips on the side. Definitely shoe string style fries, but that duck fat does make a difference. Love me some duck fat. Shoe strings are not my fave, but it seems to be the only option. The Fried Pickles? Those were PERFECT! Very good. Overall, the food was good. We ordered some whiskey shots, more beer, and the company I was with was fun and loosened up. I really wanted to love this place since most of the reviews seem positive, but I just didn't think the food was good. My husband and I went here on a date in May 2025 to try something new in Durham. We each got a burger, a beer, and shared some fried pickles. The pickles were fine, but we both thought the serving size was small for the price. We asked for our burgers to be cooked medium rare and they both definitely came out well done. While the beer was good, the food was mediocre. We live in Durham and I'm from Raleigh, so I am trying to venture out and try new places in Durham. Unfortunately, I don't see us coming back here. I was lucky to visit at the end of their exotic meat specials. I enjoyed plate of three sliders: CAMEL topped with cactus salad, ELK topped with house-made chimichurri sauce, and YAK topped with house-made garlic aioli. It was amazing experience. All were similar to beer and I liked Elk best. This is example as to the effort they expend to offer best burger experience. Fries/sides are ordered separate from burger. I ordered the DUKE FRITES which are shoestring potatoes fried in peanut oil and finished in duck fat. Really tasty, but I prefer fatter fries. They offer patio seating which is where we sat. This is arguably my favorite burger place in Durham! Bull City Burger offers a great burger and sides selection in its menu. I went for the classic burger along with the cheesy fries and a citrus slushy. I got the drink almost right away, but the food took about 15 minutes which I did not mind because everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The entire place's vibe is great, common areas are comfortable and clean and there is even a small full bar (no TVs in the bar though). Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is easy to find, but paking is a bit challenging as there is only paid street parking nearby. Overall, 100% recommended. read more

This was an interesting little burger joint. The bread for the buns was good and the burgers had a great taste. Just for the size of the burger I was a bit disappointed. My burger came out with one singular piece of lettuce on it. Tomatoes were "out of season" so they weren't offered, and my husband's bacon was odd and he took it off and didn't eat it. We shared fries and had water because they don't have any name brand sodas or drinks. Only local drinks and sodas. The fries were great, we ate every one. Worse experience ever. We had just returned from an international trip and were excited to find a great burger and brewery near the airport. The food did not disappoint at all--the burgers were really good and the fries were excellent. Unfortunately, the bartender completely ruined the experience. When I asked to try one of the beers, he poured a different one than what I requested and wouldn't acknowledge the mistake. Throughout our interaction, he was arrogant, dismissive, and rude. When we ordered food, the same attitude continued and made us feel unwelcome. Good food cannot make up for poor and disrespectful service, especially after a long international flight. We came here for lunch on Friday, to kick off the Bull City Beer Challenge. It wasn't busy at all but we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender swiftly greeted us and provided us with drink and food menus. She then brought us water and took our order. My husband ordered the pimento burger and Change in Plans IPA. I got the regular burger, added cheddar, duck frites to share and a 3 count flight. Our burgers were pretty good...you could definitely tell that the beef was FRESH and they were cooked perfectly. A little inconsistently seasoned but overall solid. The big winner here is the duck frites. Amazing! Would come back just for those yummy things. My husband really liked his IPA and I really enjoyed the diversity of my flight! I got a blueberry Weiss (delightful but smelled better than it tasted), Hot Pepper Pale Ale, (not as spicy as I thought it would be), and a Baldwin Baltic Porter (this was my favorite!) Great experience for a first timer! Food: ordered the Dr. Shadoe burger/ pink (added lettuce). It was as a good size and great flavor though the pattie itself was not very flavorful but with the chimichurri sauce it was not necessary. The sauce was on point. Ordered the fried pickles as my side and they did not dissapoint. Very crispy and loved the sauce on the side. Was not impressed with the texture and flavor of the fries. Service: received great suggestions from one of the employees on vegetarian options and on drinks recommendations at the counter. Most the the experience is self service though. You order at the counter, take a number, get your own water and they bring out your food when it's ready. If you want something else you go back to the counter. Ambiance: there is a spacious twinkle lit outside patio bench seating. The inside decor was welcoming and appealing with additional bar seating, bench seating, quad tables and window high top seating. You seat yourself where you want. The fries were salty and dry. My husband got the sweet potato fries which have cinnamon/sugar dusted on the top and tasted like dessert. My brother got the classic fries which were really good!! They brew their own beer and will give samples if you ask! I enjoyed my beer and everyone in the group enjoyed their drink selections. They have a full bar if you're not into beer. This restaurant also has indoor & outdoor seating and dogs are allowed on the back patio. We enjoyed sitting outside since the weather was perfect.
