Always a favorite when we are in Durham. Good burger and awesome beer. It can get busy, but we enjoy sitting at the bar. Even picked up some treats for our doggo.

The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. Loved the fact that they had sugar cane sodas as well. Really enjoyed the fact that there beef burgers were grass fed and ground in house. I had the burger with the fried egg and bacon. I chose the gouda cheese sauce for it which was really tasty. Loved the fact that it was a juicy burger and not a dry one like some burger joints are. Easily one of the top 5 burgers I've ever eaten. Will definitely be back in the future.

Vegan burger review! Every once in a while even the vegans want a burger (aka me) so anyway I went to bull city brewery. The burger was yummy, nothing super unique, but I liked their vegan patty and thought it was moist and well flavored. I think it was a little expensive to come with no sides at all? but I don't think that's unique to the vegan burger. Anyway, I enjoyed the drink (blueberry mojito, a special at the time) a lot, and noticed that they have craft sodas on tap (super fun). The vibe is casual and woodsy, and the food came out in good time, though ordering at the front can take a while, since they only have one register. I think that the range of non-beer drinks they offer sets them apart a bit from other breweries (with the sodas, the specials, a few cocktails), which I really appreciate as someone who does not enjoy beer. They also tend to run drinks on a theme (i.e. when I was there they were offering like 7-10 different blueberry flavored drinks, both alocholic and non-alcoholic), which can make returning here fun. Overall, a good experience. They have some fun offerings, and a solid vegan burger.

Wow, what a burger!!! I ordered the "Over Easy" burger- burger, egg, and double smoked bacon. I added the homemade pimento cheese- which was creamy with a strong pimento flavor (I don't usually like pimento cheese, I ordered it because it was homemade, and it's fair to say I loved it). The burger meat was fresh, juicy (REALLY juicy- grab extra napkins), and cooked to perfection. I like that you have the option of over easy or over hard eggs (they're just just missing the best one, over medium), and that you have the option to have the burger cooked at different temperatures. I also ordered the "Signature Duck Frites"- which are labeled as "very skinny fries"- they really should state they're shoestring fries. I really liked them but didn't expect them to be just that- I would've preferred a fatter fry. SEVERAL sauce options available on the menu, the garlic aioli was amazing. There are also several toppings options available for the burgers. I'm not a big beer person, but appreciated they had 1 sour beer on the menu. I liked that you could go inside and order, and just grab a table outside (dog-friendly area with picnic tables). Very casual and easy, delicious food, and service was really nice! Definitely will be returning to try another burger! Note- my partner tried the "Signature Secret Burger" which I tried and also tasted AMAZING. Textures and flavors of the burger (and secret toppings) were spot on. 10/10.

Out in the Raleigh/Durham area for a business trip with some co-workers, and decided to hit up something a bit different from the typical customer/supplier visit... and I'm not sure what I was expecting exactly. We got here about 4:30 for a frosty beverage before the others showed up. I had the Dunkelweizen, which was very tasty, but they didn't have a big selection of any whiskeys or bourbons. But it's a brewery, so it's somewhat expected. Any how, the rest of the crew arrives, and we walk up to place our order. Keep in mind there was only one person in front of me... sadly... it was an easy 10-15 minute wait... kind of frustrating but whatever, I wasn't pressed for too much time. I ordered the Over Easy Burger, but asked that the egg be over hard, and added their homemade pimento cheese. It came with bacon, but those prices do not include fries. So I ordered the Duck Frites and the Deep Fried Pickle Chips on the side. Definitely shoe string style fries, but that duck fat does make a difference. Love me some duck fat. Shoe strings are not my fave, but it seems to be the only option. The Fried Pickles? Those were PERFECT! Very good. Overall, the food was good. We ordered some whiskey shots, more beer, and the company I was with was fun and loosened up. Pretty sure this is a one and done stop for me, but I will have to say that line grew and it was steady around six to seven. Anyway, thanks for the experience and as always, Happy Eating!

Visiting from out of town to see a show. Tried their hop gauntlet hazy. The keg had just kicked so very watered down. Traded it out for the Bulls IPA. That one had a great taste. For dinner we both got their burgers. Mine the blue bacon bbq burger. Very good. Long lines show this is a place to be.

I really wanted to love this place since most of the reviews seem positive, but I just didn't think the food was good. My husband and I went here on a date in May 2025 to try something new in Durham. We each got a burger, a beer, and shared some fried pickles. The pickles were fine, but we both thought the serving size was small for the price. We asked for our burgers to be cooked medium rare and they both definitely came out well done. While the beer was good, the food was mediocre. We live in Durham and I'm from Raleigh, so I am trying to venture out and try new places in Durham. Unfortunately, I don't see us coming back here. In summary, the food was overpriced and overcooked.

Solid burger! Taste mostly comes from the secret sauce and meat seasoning they use, since the bun was nothing unordinary. The meat is thick and cooked to how you like it. The fries are an okay add on, don't expect really crispy nor salty. For how it is marketed as gourmet burgers, although they are not mind blowing for the $17+ cost, they are still good to try at least once! The place has woodsy decor with moody orange lighting. Staff was kind to me and someone was always cleaning tables and ensuring the place was spotless.

Quality burgers! You can tell they care about offering the best and use only the best ingredients. Also as a brewery, they serve their own beer! What a combo! I was lucky to visit at the end of their exotic meat specials. I enjoyed plate of three sliders: CAMEL topped with cactus salad, ELK topped with house-made chimichurri sauce, and YAK topped with house-made garlic aioli. It was amazing experience. All were similar to beer and I liked Elk best. This is example as to the effort they expend to offer best burger experience. Fries/sides are ordered separate from burger. I ordered the DUKE FRITES which are shoestring potatoes fried in peanut oil and finished in duck fat. Really tasty, but I prefer fatter fries. They offer patio seating which is where we sat. The inside seating is well decorated, while the outdoor seating simply feels thrown together. They could improve this area. This wasn't my first visit and won't be my last!

This is arguably my favorite burger place in Durham! Bull City Burger offers a great burger and sides selection in its menu. I went for the classic burger along with the cheesy fries and a citrus slushy. I got the drink almost right away, but the food took about 15 minutes which I did not mind because everything was delicious and tasted fresh. The entire place's vibe is great, common areas are comfortable and clean and there is even a small full bar (no TVs in the bar though). Staff is friendly and helpful. The location is easy to find, but paking is a bit challenging as there is only paid street parking nearby. Overall, 100% recommended.

BCBB is such a reliable spot when you get a craving for burgers; also totally recommend signing up for their newsletter- you get a free burger on your bday! Which is why I went to get the Green Monster (Gruyère, shaved onion, roasted poblano peppers- I love the charred spice and slight bitterness of this burger) and sweet potato fries (perfectly sweet, crispy, hint of cinnamon). Ambiance is casual; service is fast. 10/10 would recommend!

Great location close to DPAC and shoppes. Sat at the bar. Quick service even though it was packed on a Thursday evening. I loved my BYO burger bowl on fries! The jalapeño poppers and fried pickles are a must! Highly recommend! Fun atmosphere with a small space but kid friendly!

Great experience and fantastic food! You order at the counter, tons of great choices including bunless on top of fries! Great vibe and huge bar plus plenty of table seating. Service was friendly! Great overall, including $5 beer special. Will definitely be back!

Ask the Community - Bull City Burger and Brewery

Hey now. I recently became a semi-regular (like once or twice a week) & I bought a T-shirt in your establishment that has BCBB & CFOH. It's obvious what BCBB stands for, but what in the Lord's name is CFOH?

Michael, that is an excellent question. The shirt is modeled after the famous punk rock club in New York called CBGB. They had an acronym UMFUG. They didn't reveal what it meant until they closed. What do you think it means?

    Do you accept reservations?

Hi Rebekah, we take reservations for large groups. If it’s just a few people for dinner, come on in and we will be ready for you.

Is your beef halal? Where do you source it from?

Yes. Our beef is all local, NC sourced without added hormone or antibiotics. In addition, the processor is Muslim and our meat comes in with the Halal certification stamp on every package.

How is the tarantula Burger? Pics?

It's great, you honestly don't really taste it. It adds a little crunch!

I'm a burger guy but have a vegan daughter, didn't notice a vegan option on the menu, only vegetarian. Anyone know what vegan food they have?

Hi Reggie, Thanks for considering us. Our non meat burger items are not vegan. We do offer vegan white chili, our dirty and sweet potato fries and many appetizers are either vegan or can be prepared vegan if a sauce or other ingredient is left out.…

We have many breweries closer to home but we drive 30 minutes out of our way for the pizza. I always tip them well even though they don't serve you. I've been to the Raleigh location as well, check out the review if you want to know more. Panysaurus over all is a cool place (either location) but they have drastically different vibes - which in my book is a good thing. The Durham location brings you an awesome patio scene! The bar itself is a bit small but their indoor/outdoor approach makes it seem huge. The patio is two floors, both covered, one just off the bar and the other right about that which has a few TVs for those interested. Off of the patio is a nice size "beer garden" sitting area complete with picnic tables and a great view. If you are looking for chill family friendly patio vibes this is the place to be! I really love Ponysaurus beer, their pilsner is nice but their kolsch is my favorite. If you've been to the Raleigh location, the Durham menus is not the same. Yes they have pizza but it doesn't seem to have the same options - still good though. We went with a hankering for the hummus we got at the Raleigh location, again the Durham location had hummus but a different variation. One thing that's consistent with both locations is the amount of pita that came with the hummus, there is nothing worse than getting a huge bowl of hummus and only a few pieces of hummus or chips. Both locations knocked it out of the park. Plenty of WARM pita for everyone. This location is somewhat self-service, the bartender obviously poured out beer and there is a cute window for picking up snacks but no table service.

So wrong. This place is the absolute worst. It's so unfortunate because the place is beautiful and has potential. I've learned my lesson and there will not be a third time. We attempted to sit at a table for 8 but the chairs are oversized and the tables are far too close together. We had to remove two chairs to even attempt to slide across the chairs because you cannot pull them out to sit down. It's extremely difficult and uncomfortable to have to slide all the way out to let people in and out. Not user friendly at all. I wanted to order a beer but just like last time they didn't have any beer I'd ever drink which is saying a lot as I will drink anything that's not an IPA or super yellow. So I ordered the Rosè margarita but the male bartender told me they were out of that drink. Impossible. I could see both rosè and tequila from where I was standing. A female bartender overheard the male bartender lying to me and she said she would make the margarita for me. Hmmmmmmmm. So one honest bartender and one who lies because he only wants to pour beers. Thanks for solidifying that I was right to say I'd never be back to this awful establishment.
