    The dinner carry out menu.
    George W.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, but they are only open in the evening. I was working in Sterling to the west today, and decided to stop in on my way home. First off, if you know your northern Illinois restaurant history, you'll recognize this place as a former Prince Castle, which was a hamburger chain from around 1930 to 1979 or so at this location. They embrace the history here, even with a memorial plaque and an old uniform on the wall. Those days are gone now. BBY Carry Out (which could also be called BBY Cash or Check Only) is all about the chicken...and burgers. In this case, you go to a place which focuses on chicken, so you order chicken. My wife wanted their Dark Meat Special, which included 6 pieces (enough to require two to-go boxes) and a side which she requested macaroni noodles for. I had their 1/2 white meat chicken with cole slaw for salad, and it came with a dinner roll and my choice of baked or mashed potatoes and gravy, so I went for the mashed. Where to start.... LARGE - the 1/2 chicken white meat dinner had 2 LARGE breasts. I mean Wal Mart would blush with embarrassment at what they sell, these are so large. It also came with two chicken wings for 4 pieces or pretty much half the chicken. The mashed potatoes were good, the biscuit was good. My wife enjoyed what she could of the 6 piece dark meat special, and saved some for tomorrow. She liked her macaroni salad - she said it was quite tasty. The chicken had to be driven home 30 minutes on a spring day in the 1970s in paper boxes, inside a paper bag. When I got home, the chicken was still VERY Hot and fresh. Like amazingly hot and fresh considering the time and distance I traveled. While this is BBY Carry out, they do have seating inside, so if you want to eat in, you can. Walk in, order, give them your name, and they'll cook it up fresh. Nothing coming out from the warmer here Chicken wise - it's fryer fresh. Be prepared to wait or be smart, and call in your order ahead like a lot of people did before I got there. Orders are made in the order in which they are received - so phone first. This was really good chicken. Some of the best in the area.

Amazing chicken and prices. Came into town and checked this place out, the owner Mike was super accommodating and kind. Would highly recommend this place and love how it's a family owned restaurant.

Best fried chicken in town!!! During our first visit, we had the pleasure of meeting the owner. They treated us like family and served us with great hospitality. Had a great experience with good people and even better food.

    Top chicken, bottom walleye.

Solid, chicken n walleye were the Mashed potatoes were covered in gravy and they were really good. They put chicken in the gravy. Not too expensive either. Solid price

The take out box is deeper than typical.

If their motto is "grease is good" they they succeed. Fried foods is what this place does best.

Family friendly, good service, and the usual kitsch decorations. I ordered their Cinnamon Roll Pancake. I asked the waitress how large they were - they were LARGE, so I only ordered one. Good call. My wife had their veggie omelet, which came with tomato, onion, green pepper and mushrooms. It came with hash browns and toast. I ordered a side of sausage patties. The sausage patty was large too - it looked like a hamburger (but obviously wasn't). The Cinnamon Roll Pancake was exactly as described - the waitress offered to bring out maple syrup, but said most people didn't use it so I passed on that (and didn't need it). My wife enjoyed her omelet. I had a root beer (I know, but it was lunch time in my weak defense) and my wife went with the coffee. She said she didn't like the coffee - she isn't one who goes for the fancy coffee - we don't have a Keurig or Nespresso machine - just a plain old Mr. Coffee Jr at home, and if she didn't like the coffee, that says something to me. Service was very prompt from the moment we were greeted at the door until we left. The mens room was clean. The deodorizer in the urinal needed to be changed - it was completely exhausted.

Clean small town bar and restaurant. Very friendly staff and great food. My Philly was tasty and was super impressed with the size of mom's fish sandwich. Better value than other similar places. But I went just the same. This is decor wise, a simple bar. Tables are available, and a separate room is to what I think was the south (left side as you enter). There were slot machines along the wall and the the room to the south. The mens room was nice and clean, and had good water pressure. No bad smells! I ordered lunch. After asking what was good - the menu was pretty extensive and had a bunch of options, I kept remembering the chicken reviews, so I went with the chicken fingers and fries. The Root Beer soft drink server was down for maintenance, so I ended up with a lemonade. The chicken fingers didn't disappoint. They were served fresh from the fryer, and somehow held the heat quite well - better than the usual fast food fare. I agree, the breading was out of this world in terms of lightness - it was very good, and the chicken tasted fresh and good. I found the fries to be good as well. The Cole slaw could have used something more - it was a bit on the bland side. Give yourself some time, take the drive, and try the place out. The server was quite pleasant. Keep in mind, there is a 3% upcharge if you use a credit card, which isn't unusual.

Yet we walked in, and were seated immediately, with a prompt visit by a server who took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. I chose their Smoked Roast Prime Rib. I enjoy smoked meats AND Prime Rib - so how could you go wrong? I ordered it with their mashed potato side. My wife had their Chicken George, which as you can see from the photo (updated photos are labeled 8/2026 visit) provided a LOT of Chicken. The Chicken George came with a dipping sauce, plus you have barbeque sauces also on the table. The chicken was fresh from the fryer and was very good. The Smoked Roast Prime Rib was exactly what it was called - the rind had a nice, smokey flavor to it. The Prime Rib was a nice cut, tender, and tasted great. This kind of feels like a country sports bar. Plenty of TV screens in the place, and wood walls give it a homey feeling. Service is very attentive even during high business periods and the manager checked in to see how our food was. So many good things - what's not to like?
