We dropped in based on the strength of the reviews. Heck, another restaurant's people were here eating for a birthday party. This is your typical family run restaurant. Family friendly, good service, and the usual kitsch decorations. I ordered their Cinnamon Roll Pancake. I asked the waitress how large they were - they were LARGE, so I only ordered one. Good call. My wife had their veggie omelet, which came with tomato, onion, green pepper and mushrooms. It came with hash browns and toast. I ordered a side of sausage patties. The sausage patty was large too - it looked like a hamburger (but obviously wasn't). The Cinnamon Roll Pancake was exactly as described - the waitress offered to bring out maple syrup, but said most people didn't use it so I passed on that (and didn't need it). My wife enjoyed her omelet. I had a root beer (I know, but it was lunch time in my weak defense) and my wife went with the coffee. She said she didn't like the coffee - she isn't one who goes for the fancy coffee - we don't have a Keurig or Nespresso machine - just a plain old Mr. Coffee Jr at home, and if she didn't like the coffee, that says something to me. Service was very prompt from the moment we were greeted at the door until we left. The mens room was clean. The deodorizer in the urinal needed to be changed - it was completely exhausted. read more

This cute and friendly restaurant is perfect for a good meal with family or friends. The food is always delicious and cooked perfectly. Today for breakfast I enjoyed a Mediterranean style dish suggested by the waitress, and it was absolutely delicious! The entire staff is genuine like that and treats you like family. We went here with a friend because she craved biscuits & gravy, and on Labor Day. I was glad they were open, which is kind of unusual, and service was good and quick. My only gripe: the gravy was kind of bland. I know, I'm being petty but sausage gravy should have a sausage flavor. It didn't seem to be made from scratch. Everything else was really good, and again: they were open on Labor Day so I gotta give em credit for that! read more

We are in town to visit family from CO, Red Apple was recommended to us. 1st our waitress Amanda was attentive and very friendly. What I appreciated most was her honesty and overall demeanor. I had an orange juice and coffee, both which were good. I also had the mediterranean omelette minus the tomatoes and minus the olives and I added ham and onion with a side of hashbrowns. Mediterranean omelette was very flavorful. The feta made it nice and creamy on the inside and complemented the spinach perfectly, the ham gave it the perfect amount of salt, and the engines gave it a nice little crunch. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly crispy on the outside soft on the inside. My other half had the corn beef and hash skillet and he said it was the best he's ever had. I don't like corn beef and hash. However, I tried it and I think I would definitely order it to eat. It's that good. If you're from out of town and looking for a great breakfast restaurant, I highly recommend eating at the red apple I wasn't disappointed and he won't be either ! read more

We seem to always eat here every time we come to town. Food and service is always good. We had a group of 20 and our waitress was great. She kept drinks refilled and brought the kids items that they had forgot to order. We will be back next year when we are back in town. read more

A family owned business in Dixon Illinois. The owners are very polite and nice people. I enjoy having conversations with them when I come to pick up our food. They are always accommodating and make sure we have everything we need. They usually have the food ready in 10-15 minutes. We searched for breakfast and 5 places popped up. We chose: The Red Apple near Dixon. Liked it right away. Warm greeting on arrival. Friendly banter, steaming hot coffee, and a few minutes to check the menu. Free solid WiFi. Food arrived just as ordered! Extra jalapeños in the Dixon Omelet( Avocado, Spinach, tomato, Swiss, bacon). Son ordered biscuits & gravy. Tons of options on menu BTW. Son thought they were really good. One thing I liked is the toast already had butter on it all melting. This might bother some diners so if you're not wanting that you might like it held. Lots of cheerful locals and all around homey friendly vibe. Server had the perfect demeanor. It's been before Christmas since I ate at The Red Apple. The food is great and the waitresses are extremely friendly. My only complaint is the prices. Wow -have they the up! I realize the cost of food and labor has increased; however, compared with other local restaurants, they average $2 to $3 more per entre. A cup of coffee is now $ 1.85!! The service and food were excellent; the only problem I encountered was the little handwritten sign on the cash register that announced a 3.5 percent upcharge for credit card users. Accepting credit cards is a cost of doing business and should not be passed on to the customers who use such a service. Either accept credit card fees as a convenience you offer to customers (many of whom you would lose if you went "cash only" or stop taking credit cards. Never have I been in a nicer, friendlier diner! Remember those 1970's TV shows that were based on a diner? The staff here knows everyone by name, knows their children, how they are doing and so on. Stumbled upon this place on a bathroom break driving out to Denver from Chicago. Wow was I pleasantly surprised. Ordered the Corned Beef Skillet. All I can say is this was outstanding. Over easy eggs were cooked to perfection and service was outstanding. All I can say is if you are ever in Dixon, Illinois stop in and try this little jem. You wont be disappointed. read more

Went for breakfast this morning. Service was great - quick and friendly. Had coffee asap and the refills were prompt. We all had breakfast - the breakfast croissant was a really nice size and cooked perfectly. Pancakes and French toast were also winners . We will return and can't recommend enough.
